For most Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra owners, keeping the tablet is the sensible choice. Samsung’s S12 Ultra brings a newer processor, a redesigned cooling system and a fresh software-support commitment, but its screen size, resolution, thickness and Wi-Fi weight are essentially unchanged in Samsung’s published specifications. Consider upgrading if your current tablet is limiting demanding work, you value the newer software platform, or a local trade-in makes the net cost attractive.
Samsung announced the S12 series on September 30, 2026. In the US, availability is scheduled to begin October 7, with a starting price of $1,399.99. Those are launch details, not a universal price or a guarantee of current stock; check the price and availability in your market before deciding.

What changes from the S11 Ultra to the S12 Ultra?
The most consequential changes are inside the tablet. Samsung says the S12 Ultra uses a 3 nm processor and compares it with the S11 Ultra as follows. These are manufacturer figures, not independently measured benchmark results.

The processor numbers may matter if you regularly run demanding creative applications, intensive games or AI features. But a percentage gain does not guarantee the same improvement in every app or task. No independent post-launch benchmark or everyday-use test is established here, so owners should treat Samsung’s figures as a reason to investigate—not proof that their own workflow will feel a particular amount faster.

The cooling change is also aimed at demanding use. A redesigned vapor chamber could be relevant to long, sustained workloads, but Samsung’s stated purpose alone does not establish how much performance the S12 will maintain over time compared with the S11.
What stays much the same?
The S12 Ultra is not a screen-size or portability upgrade based on the published specifications. Samsung UK lists a 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 2960 × 1848 resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Samsung’s 2026 Q1 interim report gives the same screen size and resolution for the S11 Ultra.
Samsung claims peak brightness of up to 1,600 nits for the S12 Ultra. The S11 Ultra’s interim-report specification lists 1,600 nits peak brightness and 1,000 nits in high-brightness mode. The official figures cited here do not establish a meaningful panel-quality improvement, so do not assume the newer model will look substantially better based on peak brightness alone.

The physical figures are familiar, too: Samsung lists the S12 Ultra at about 5.1 mm thick and 692 g for the Wi-Fi model. Samsung’s S11 Ultra baseline lists the same thickness and Wi-Fi weight. If your main reason to upgrade is a larger display or a lighter tablet, the cited specifications do not support that expectation.
Is the S12 Ultra worth upgrading to for software support?
Samsung says the S12 Ultra ships with Android 17 and One UI 9, with up to seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. That announced support commitment may be valuable if you plan to keep your tablet for a long time.
It does not mean an S11 Ultra owner automatically gains seven additional years of support by switching. The practical difference depends on the S11’s purchase date and how Samsung’s support policy applies to each device. Check the applicable support information for your own tablet before treating the new model’s headline duration as your personal extension.

How to decide: keep your S11 or buy the S12?
Keep the S11 Ultra if…
- It already handles your regular browsing, note-taking, media and productivity tasks without frustrating slowdowns.
- You would pay close to the S12 Ultra’s full US launch price of $1,399.99, rather than a substantially reduced local net price.
- You want a bigger screen or a smaller, lighter tablet; the cited dimensions and display class do not deliver either change.
Consider the S12 Ultra if…
- You have a concrete need for more processing capacity, such as a workload that currently taxes the S11 Ultra.
- You spend long sessions on demanding tasks and consider the new cooling design worth evaluating, while recognizing that its real sustained-load advantage is not established by Samsung’s claim alone.
- The S12’s newer software platform and announced support commitment matter to you, and you have checked how the support timelines apply to both devices.
- A confirmed trade-in or other local offer makes the net upgrade cost compelling for your use.
Compare the real costs and benefits
- Find your local net cost. Compare the S12’s live price in your market with the confirmed value and terms of your S11 trade-in. Samsung’s $1,399.99 figure is the US launch starting price; current promotions, S11 street prices, trade-in amounts and prices outside the US are not established here.
- Name the workload you need to improve. Decide whether CPU, GPU or AI processing is actually a bottleneck in your day-to-day use. Samsung’s percentage comparisons do not predict a uniform gain in every app.
- Weigh sustained performance cautiously. If your work keeps the tablet under load for long stretches, cooling may matter, but the manufacturer’s description does not quantify real-world improvement.
- Compare support horizons for your devices. Consider the S12’s announced commitment alongside the support remaining on your specific S11, rather than assuming a full seven-year extension.
- Account for accessories. Samsung lists a Pro Keyboard, Book Cover, Frame Cover, Book Cover Keyboard Slim and Anti-Reflecting Screen Protector as S12 Ultra accessories sold separately. Confirm exact compatibility and current pricing before carrying over or buying accessories. Samsung also says the S12 Ultra supports a microSD card up to 2 TB if you need additional local storage.
What is the US price and availability?
Samsung’s September 30, 2026 US announcement lists a starting price of $1,399.99 and says availability begins October 7, 2026. Since that advertised date is after the announcement, it is best treated as scheduled availability until the tablet is actually on sale. Prices, stock, promotions and trade-in terms can vary by retailer, configuration and region; confirm the offer where you plan to buy.

The S12 Ultra looks like a targeted upgrade for S11 owners who need more processing headroom, place real value on the new software platform or can reduce the cost through a strong trade-in. For everyone else, the unchanged display class and physical footprint make waiting the more defensible choice—especially until independent testing can clarify the processor, cooling and battery claims.
