Should You Buy the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2? A 2026 Review

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is worth considering if you want a large, rugged Android smartwatch with a very bright display, dual-frequency GPS and Samsung’s outdoor and diving features. It is a harder sell if you want a compact watch, dependable multi-day battery life, or the full feature set with a non-Samsung phone. At review-time prices starting around $699 in the US, it is a specialist upgrade rather than the best-value Galaxy Watch for most people.

What the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 offers

Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 on July 22, 2026, and general availability began August 7 in select markets. Availability and configurations can vary by region. It comes in a single 47 mm size, in Titanium Silver or Titanium Gray. Samsung lists dimensions of 47.4 × 47.1 × 10.7 mm and a weight of 61.5 g, so this is a substantial watch rather than a discreet everyday model. Samsung’s announcement

Its headline specification is the 1.52-inch, 498 × 498 Super AMOLED display, rated by Samsung for peak brightness up to 5,000 nits. Tom’s Guide also praised its legibility outdoors. The case uses sapphire crystal, and the watch includes LTE, Bluetooth 6.0, 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi, NFC and L1+L5 dual-frequency GPS. Samsung’s specifications make it look well equipped for bright conditions and outdoor navigation, though a bright display alone does not ensure accurate tracking.

TechRadar’s review specification table lists One UI Watch 9 (Wear OS 7), a Snapdragon Wear Elite processor, 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. These are details reported by that publication; check the current Samsung product listing for your market before purchase. TechRadar’s review

Is it rugged or suitable for diving?

Samsung lists 10ATM+, IP69K, MIL-STD-810H and EN13319 ratings. It also describes dive-related recording features developed with Mares. These ratings and software features indicate a watch built for demanding use, but they do not establish that it is safe for every dive, depth, environment or use case. Confirm the limits and instructions for the specific activity, and do not treat a smartwatch as a substitute for proper dive equipment or training. Samsung also highlights Trail Run and workout hydration guidance. Those features may appeal to people who want outdoor coaching and activity tools on their wrist. They are not proof that every sport has a dedicated mode or that every metric will be accurate: Tom’s Guide, for example, reported inflated elevation readings on a hike and noted missing modes for mountain biking and e-biking. Tom’s Guide’s review

How long does the battery last?

Samsung lists an 800 mAh battery. The company says that capacity is 35% greater than the preceding generation, which is a capacity comparison, not a promise of 35% longer runtime. Samsung Mobile Press

Runtime claims and reviewer experience differ. TechRadar’s specification table lists up to 60 hours with always-on display enabled. Tom’s Guide reports about 72 hours per charge in its own test with that display setting on. That is one reviewer’s result, not a guaranteed expectation for every owner; use of GPS, LTE, workouts and other settings can affect how long a charge lasts. TechRadar Tom’s Guide

Android Central’s reviewer praised the watch’s multitasking and trail-running features but criticized battery performance and charging. That experience is a reminder that a larger stated capacity does not necessarily translate into the battery experience a particular buyer wants. Android Central’s review

Does it work with a non-Samsung Android phone?

Samsung lists compatibility with Android 13.0 or later and more than 1.5 GB of memory. However, compatibility does not necessarily mean every feature is available on every Android phone. Android Central reports restrictions on some features for owners using non-Samsung phones. If you use another Android brand, check the exact feature requirements before buying; the supplied compatibility minimum is not a guarantee of identical functionality. Is its price justified over a standard Galaxy Watch?

At review time in 2026, TechRadar listed prices of $699.99 in the US, £649 in the UK and AU$1,299 in Australia. These are dated review figures, not live offers; local pricing, stock and promotions may differ. Tom’s Guide listed the US price as $699 and described it as $50 more than the previous Ultra at launch. TechRadar Tom’s Guide

The less expensive standard Galaxy Watch9 shares many features in a less rugged package, according to Tom’s Guide. The Ultra2’s premium is most defensible if you specifically value the bigger, rugged 47 mm design, brighter display, dual-frequency GPS and outdoor-oriented features. If you mainly want notifications, everyday fitness tracking and smartwatch basics, the standard model is likely the more sensible place to start. Tom’s Guide’s review

For buyers choosing beyond Samsung’s lineup, Apple Watch Ultra is primarily a platform-fit question, while Garmin models may suit specialized sports or wilderness priorities better. Which comparison matters depends on your phone and activities; verify the current model and local price before deciding.

Quick Recap

Who should buy it—and who should skip it?

Consider the Ultra2 if

  • You want a large, bright display that reviewers found easy to read outdoors.
  • You value rugged construction, dual-frequency GPS and Samsung’s outdoor features.
  • You use a Samsung phone and are prepared to check which features are supported on your exact setup.

Look elsewhere if

  • You prefer a smaller or lighter watch: the Ultra2 is a 47 mm model weighing 61.5 g.
  • You need a predictable multi-day battery or fast charging; reviewer experience was mixed.
  • You want sport-specific coverage for activities such as mountain biking or e-biking, or rely on highly dependable elevation and running-pace data.
  • You do not need the rugged extras and would rather pay less for a standard Galaxy Watch.
