The India-market iQOO 12 5G is a strong choice if you want top-tier gaming performance, a fluid 144Hz display and very fast wired charging without paying for a camera-first flagship. Its trade-offs are a cluttered Funtouch OS experience, inconsistent camera processing, no wireless charging and battery life that varies with workload. Whether it is worth buying now depends on the exact storage variant, live price and availability.
What the India iQOO 12 5G offers
Launched in India in December 2023, the iQOO 12 pairs a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor with a separate Q1 chip for gaming. It was sold in 12GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB configurations. The key hardware is a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 144Hz, a 5,000mAh battery and 120W wired charging. Its rear cameras are a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide and a 64MP periscope telephoto with 3× optical zoom. The phone is rated IP64 for dust and splashes, not immersion. iQOO India, 91mobiles and Gadgets 360 provide product and review details.

How good is the performance for gaming?
Gaming is the iQOO 12’s clearest strength. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 provides flagship-class processing power, while the Q1 chip supports the phone’s gaming features. The Indian Express found demanding games smooth in its tested titles. That does not mean performance stays unchanged under every sustained load: reviewers noted heat or throttling in some conditions.

In the same review, a half-hour, 50-thread CPU Throttle test showed a 20% performance drop. These are results from that review unit and test setup, not guaranteed scores or behavior for every handset. If you play for long sessions, sustained heat and frame stability matter more than a single benchmark score.

Is the display a strength?
Yes, particularly if you value a large, fluid screen. The 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED panel can refresh at up to 144Hz, and reviewers praised its brightness and smoothness. Its resolution is 1,260 × 2,800 pixels; 91mobiles and Gadgets 360 noted that it is not as sharp as the highest-resolution flagship panels. The practical trade-off is fluidity and a large viewing area over class-leading pixel density.
What are the cameras like?
The rear setup is more versatile than a phone with only a main and ultrawide camera: the 64MP periscope telephoto provides 3× optical zoom, alongside 50MP main and ultrawide cameras. GSMArena found the rear cameras capable overall, but reported inconsistent processing. It also identified selfie-camera video as a particular weakness. Choose the iQOO 12 for gaming and flexible rear-camera coverage rather than dependable results across every camera mode, especially selfies and video.

How long does the battery last, and how fast does it charge?
The 5,000mAh battery’s endurance depends heavily on how the phone is used. In The Indian Express reviewer’s usage, including an hour of gaming, screen-on time was five to six hours. Gadgets 360 recorded 19 hours 25 minutes in a controlled HD video-loop test; that result should not be read as a typical mixed-use day estimate.

Charging is a more consistent advantage. Gadgets 360 measured an average 28 minutes from 0% to 100% with 120W wired charging; The Indian Express estimated approximately 30 minutes. Both are review observations, and charging time can vary with conditions. There is no wireless charging.

Is Funtouch OS a drawback?
The phone launched with Android 14 and Funtouch OS 14. The Indian Express described the interface as cluttered and found that notifications needed disabling; Gadgets 360 also noted preinstalled apps and app-store promotions. The reported launch-era update promise was three major Android upgrades and four years of security updates. That is a stated support commitment, not confirmation that every promised update had been delivered by October 2026.

Should you buy the iQOO 12 5G?
Buy it if gaming performance, a high-refresh-rate display, a flexible rear-camera set and fast wired charging matter more to you than wireless charging, a clean software setup or consistently strong selfies and video. Consider another phone if camera reliability or sustained heavy-load performance is your main priority.
Its value is price-sensitive. The iQOO 12 was compared with the OnePlus 11, Samsung Galaxy S23 FE and iPhone 13 in Gadgets 360’s launch-period review, while GSMArena discussed the Xiaomi 14 Pro. Those are historical comparisons, not a current shortlist. At today’s checkout price, compare available phones on sustained gaming and thermals, display sharpness, camera and selfie-video consistency, software support, charging and wireless charging rather than relying on old launch-era rival pricing. GSMArena’s review called it “an excellent smartphone with a competitive price of around $600 (China, India)”—a launch-era assessment, not a current price quote.
