Buy the Galaxy SmartTag3 only after checking which features your phone supports. Samsung says it supports core finding and sharing through SmartThings Find on Galaxy and iOS, but three useful features—Compass View, Ring Phone and Left Behind Alert—are unavailable on iPhone. Compass View also requires a compatible Galaxy device. Samsung announced the tracker on September 30, 2026; its U.S. launch pricing and availability window are announced figures, not confirmation that it is in stock today.
Will Galaxy SmartTag3 work with your phone?
Samsung says SmartTag3 supports core finding and sharing through SmartThings Find on Galaxy and iOS. That broad support does not mean every feature works on every phone. Samsung’s announcement does not provide a complete list of compatible phone models or minimum app and operating-system versions, so check Samsung’s compatibility information for your exact device and region before buying. Samsung’s U.S. announcement and its global announcement describe the supported platforms and feature limits.

Samsung’s announcement does not establish a full model-by-model list or app and OS minimums for all functions. Do not assume your phone qualifies based only on its brand or age.
Which Galaxy phones support Compass View?
Compass View gives directional guidance toward a nearby tag, but eligibility depends on the phone’s hardware as well as its software. Samsung says the feature requires Android 12 or later and either ultra-wideband (UWB) or Bluetooth Channel Sounding.

Samsung says additional devices may be supported later, so this list should not be read as a complete list of every phone that may support Compass View through UWB. Check the current compatibility information for your particular Galaxy model before purchase. Samsung’s global announcement names the Channel Sounding devices and requirements.
What can you do with SmartTag3 on an iPhone?
Samsung says iOS users can use SmartThings Find for core finding and sharing. However, Samsung explicitly excludes Compass View, Ring Phone and Left Behind Alert on iOS. If any of those functions is the reason you want a tracker, an iPhone owner should not buy SmartTag3 expecting them to work.

For Galaxy users, Ring Phone can help locate a misplaced phone, while Left Behind Alert is intended to notify you if you leave the tagged item behind. These are distinct from finding the tag itself, and Samsung’s platform restrictions matter if you plan to rely on them.
How does finding work when the tag is out of range?
When SmartTag3 is within direct connection range, you can use SmartThings Find to check its location. If it is farther away, Samsung says participating nearby Galaxy devices can act as nodes in the Galaxy Find Network and help report the tag’s location. Samsung describes more than 900 million participating Galaxy devices worldwide as potential finding nodes; that figure does not guarantee that a nearby device will detect your tag or that its location will update immediately. Nearby devices, network conditions, settings and region affect availability and timing. Samsung says location data is encrypted. Samsung’s U.S. announcement describes the network and its scale.

Directional range has specific conditions
Samsung advertises Bluetooth Channel Sounding detection of up to 60 meters under line-of-sight conditions with no obstacles. Walls, nearby electronics, the phone and the surrounding environment can reduce range or accuracy. Treat 60 meters as a best-case manufacturer figure, not a guaranteed everyday distance. Samsung’s global announcement states the line-of-sight qualification.
What does Galaxy SmartTag3 cost, and when is it available?
Samsung Electronics America announced U.S. prices of $29.99 for one tag and $99.99 for a four-pack, with U.S. availability by early November 2026. Samsung’s global announcement says availability starts in Korea on October 7, followed by the U.S., with additional markets following in 2027. These are announced prices and launch windows, not confirmation of current local stock; check a local retailer or Samsung listing for availability and final price. How long does the battery last?
Samsung estimates up to 550 days under standard usage and up to 790 days in Power Saving Mode. These are manufacturer estimates based on internal simulated battery-consumption analysis using the in-box CR2032 battery, not a promise of an individual tag’s runtime. Actual life varies, and Power Saving Mode restricts some features. Samsung’s U.S. announcement provides the estimates and testing qualification.

Water and dust resistance
Samsung rates SmartTag3 IP67, qualified for immersion in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. The company cautions that resistance can diminish over time and does not advise beach or pool use. The rating is not a reason to treat the tracker as waterproof in every situation. Samsung’s global announcement gives the rating and qualification.

Lost Mode and optional alerts
NFC Lost Mode can display contact details or a short message you registered in advance, but the finder’s device must support NFC and have internet access. Samsung also lists Place Notification, Location History and Movement Detection Alert. Place Notification is identified as a trial feature; Location History is retained for up to seven days. Movement-related notices can be delayed or may not arrive, depending on nearby devices and surroundings. These network-dependent functions should not be treated as guaranteed alerts. Samsung’s global announcement describes these functions and qualifications.
Size, cases and secure attachment
Samsung Electronics America says SmartTag3 is 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than the previous generation. Samsung lists a Silicone Case with keyring and a Loop Case as accessories sold separately. If attaching a tag to a pet’s collar, fasten it securely and inspect the attachment regularly: Samsung warns that a detached tag or accessory can pose a swallowing hazard to children and pets. Samsung’s U.S. announcement gives the size comparison and accessories, while its global announcement includes the safety warning.

Should you buy it or wait?
- Consider buying it if you use a compatible Galaxy phone, want SmartThings Find, and have checked that the specific features you need are supported on your model.
- Be cautious if you use an iPhone. Core finding and sharing are supported, but Compass View, Ring Phone and Left Behind Alert are not. Buy only if the supported core functions meet your needs.
- Wait or verify first if Compass View is essential but your phone is not among Samsung’s named Channel Sounding models, or if your country’s launch date, local price or phone compatibility is unclear.
- Do not base the decision on a single headline figure. The 60-meter range is under line-of-sight conditions, battery life is estimated from simulated analysis, and off-network updates depend on nearby participating devices.
