Buy now if the exact product is at a demonstrably good recent price, you trust the seller, and you need it before November 27, 2026. Wait if your purchase is flexible and you are willing to monitor prices, accept stock or model changes, and possibly find that the price never improves. Black Friday is a shopping period, not a guarantee of the year’s lowest price.
The short answer: use the price, not the event name
A “Black Friday deal” label says when a promotion is being marketed; it does not prove that the price is unusually low. The most useful comparison is the exact model and configuration against its own recent price history, followed by the final checkout total and the reliability of the seller.

- The current price is near a recent low or is otherwise compelling after delivery and applicable fees.
- The retailer has acceptable stock, delivery, returns and any price-adjustment terms.
- You need the product before late November, or the value of using it now exceeds the possible saving from waiting.
Waiting is more defensible when the purchase is optional, your preferred model is widely available, and you can track its history without being disappointed if the price stays flat or stock disappears.

What the strongest price evidence shows
Which?’s UK sample challenges the “cheapest on Black Friday” assumption
Which? tracked 175 home, technology and health appliances at eight major UK retailers from May 2024 through May 2025. It defined the 2024 Black Friday period as November 15 to December 12. In that sample, 83% of products were cheaper than, or the same price as, their Black Friday-period price on at least one occasion outside the four-week window. Which? also reported that none of the analyzed products was at its annual low on Black Friday itself.
This is historical UK evidence, not a promise about any individual product or the 2026 sale. It does show why a crossed-out price, countdown timer or “Black Friday” badge should never be your only test. Which? retail editor Reena Sewraz put the practical lesson plainly: “Our advice is simple: take your time, don’t be fooled by clever marketing and do your research.”
What the finding does—and does not—tell you
The study covers a defined group of UK retailers and appliances, not every country, category or seller. It cannot tell you whether a particular laptop, phone or television will be cheaper on November 27, 2026. Prices can change because of stock, model launches, retailer competition, exchange rates and promotions unrelated to Black Friday.
Black Friday 2026 is a date, not a pricing forecast
Best Buy’s official event page lists US Black Friday 2026 as Friday, November 27. The retailer also says technology prices are available throughout the year. That statement is retailer marketing rather than independent evidence of deal quality, but it reinforces the practical point: the calendar cannot establish whether today’s offer is good.
Buy now or wait: a decision framework
| Buy now when | Wait when |
|---|---|
| You have verified a recent low for the exact model and configuration. | The current price is ordinary or higher than recent comparable prices. |
| You need the product before late November. | You can postpone the purchase without losing meaningful use. |
| The final checkout total remains attractive after delivery and fees. | You expect substantial retailer competition in the category and can monitor it. |
| Stock is limited or the model may be replaced before Black Friday. | The model is widely stocked and likely to remain available. |
| The seller, warranty, returns and any price-adjustment policy suit you. | You are comfortable with the risk that the price never falls or your preferred configuration sells out. |
Do not treat “wait” as a free option. Waiting has a cost: time spent monitoring, delayed use, possible delivery pressure, and the chance that a specific size or configuration disappears. Conversely, buying now has an opportunity cost if a clearly better price appears later. Decide which risk matters more for your situation.
How to check whether a sale price is genuinely good
- Record the exact product identity. Write down the manufacturer model number, storage or memory capacity, screen size, colour, included accessories and regional version. A promotion on a 55-inch television is not an equivalent comparison with the 65-inch version; an older model year is not the same product as a current replacement.
- Check the product’s own price history. Amazon says its price-history feature can show up to 365 days of data, including 30-, 90- and 365-day lows on eligible pages. Use the history for the exact listing or configuration, not a near-match. Amazon says more than 50 million customers have used the tool; that is a company-reported usage figure, not independent proof that every displayed history is complete.
- Compare several recent reference points. Note the lowest price, typical price and how often discounts occurred. A one-day low may be less useful than a price that has remained low for several weeks. If a history chart is unavailable, save dated prices from multiple reputable retailers and distinguish identical models from substitutes.
- Calculate the checkout total. Add delivery, installation, required accessories, recycling charges, taxes or other applicable fees. A lower headline price can lose its advantage once those costs are included.
- Verify the seller and fulfilment. Check who is selling the item, who will dispatch it, the warranty provider and the stated delivery date. Marketplace listings can use the same product page while changing seller, condition or support terms.
- Check stock and substitution risk. Confirm that the exact configuration is available, not merely listed. “Similar” or “newer” alternatives may differ in panel, processor, ports, storage, software support or included accessories.
- Read current policies before paying. Review the retailer’s return window, exclusions, restocking charges and any price-adjustment or price-match terms. Policies vary by country, seller and product type; the existence of a sale does not create a universal right to a later refund.
- Set a personal trigger. Decide the highest all-in price you will pay and the date by which you must buy. If today’s price meets your trigger, purchase rather than chasing an unknowable future low. If it does not, set an alert and review again.
How to wait without losing control
Track the exact listing
Save the model number and configuration in a note, price tracker or retailer alert. Check that alerts refer to the same item; retailers sometimes create separate pages for bundles, regional variants or refurbished stock.

Set a deadline before Black Friday
Waiting until the event itself can create rushed decisions. Choose a review date, such as the week before November 27, and a fallback product that meets your requirements. If stock is already tightening, a slightly higher price from a dependable seller may be preferable to an unknown marketplace listing.

Watch the total value, not just the percentage discount
A “40% off” claim may compare with a reference price that was rarely charged. Compare the current all-in price with the model’s recent lows and with equivalent offers from other sellers. Bundles count only if you would have bought the included items anyway.
Televisions: when waiting can make more sense
Televisions deserve extra care because screen size, panel type, model year and product tier can make two similarly named sets fundamentally different. Before comparing prices, fix the requirements: for example, a 65-inch OLED from a specified model year, with the ports and gaming features you need. Do not substitute a smaller screen, a lower tier or an older generation merely because its discount percentage is larger.

In UK guidance published October 6, 2026, What Hi-Fi? argues that Black Friday often brings broader retailer competition and can discount newer television releases. That is category-specific editorial judgment, not a statistical forecast. The same guidance warns that a strong current offer may not become cheaper later and makes no promise about future pricing.
For a television, waiting is sensible when your current set is adequate, the exact model is broadly stocked and you are prepared to compare several retailers. Buying now is sensible when the offer is already near the model’s recent low, the required size is scarce, or you need the set for a fixed event. An example such as an OLED television listed through Amazon should be treated as a starting point for checking the exact model and market; an offer or price described in an October article may no longer be available.
Geography and timing matter
The 83% Which? finding comes from the UK, while Best Buy’s November 27 date is a US retailer reference. Amazon’s descriptions of price-history and deal tools do not establish that displays, policies or availability are identical in every country. Use local currency, tax rules, delivery terms and consumer protections when making the calculation.

Retailers may begin promotions well before November 27 and extend them afterward. A UK retailer’s “Black Friday” week may not follow the US calendar exactly. Treat any date shown on a retailer page as that retailer’s schedule, then compare the actual price history rather than assuming the event is synchronized worldwide.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Comparing only the crossed-out price: use recent transaction prices for the same model.
- Comparing different configurations: match capacity, screen size, generation, colour and included accessories.
- Ignoring the final total: include delivery, fees, taxes and required add-ons.
- Assuming a later price is guaranteed: no available evidence establishes that a specific product will rise or fall between now and Black Friday 2026.
- Overlooking seller quality: verify fulfilment, warranty support, returns and stock condition.
- Letting a timer force a decision: record your acceptable price before opening the promotion page.
- Using a historical statistic as a prediction: the Which? sample is UK-specific and historical, not a forecast for every 2026 technology purchase.
A practical example
Suppose you want a particular 65-inch OLED television. First, record its exact model-year code and required features. Next, inspect up to 365 days of history where available and note the 30-, 90- and 365-day lows. Compare the current all-in checkout price with those figures and with identical listings from reputable sellers. Confirm delivery, warranty and returns. If the price is close to the long-term low and you need the television soon, buying now removes uncertainty. If the price is well above recent lows and you can wait, set an alert, choose a deadline and accept that the eventual saving is possible rather than promised.
The bottom line for October 2026 shoppers
There is no dependable universal winner between buying now and waiting for Black Friday. The best decision is conditional: buy the exact product when its verified recent price, checkout cost, seller terms and need date line up; wait only when the purchase is flexible and the potential benefit is worth the risk of no further discount or reduced stock. Black Friday 2026 falls on November 27 in the US, but your own price history and requirements are more informative than that date.
