TDM Neo is for people who expect to switch between private headphone listening and sharing audio nearby: twist its earcups together and the wireless headphones become a portable speaker. That trick is the product’s defining benefit, not proof that it outperforms separate headphones and a speaker. At the listed U.S. price of $249, its 340 g weight, lack of active noise cancellation and still-unverified real-world performance deserve equal consideration.
How TDM Neo switches from headphones to speaker
Neo combines two listening modes in one set of earcups. TechRadar and SoundGuys report four 40 mm drivers: two face inward for headphone playback and two face outward for speaker playback. TechRadar’s January CES hands-on says the driver sets have separate amplifiers, and describes the earcups attaching magnetically as the twist switches output. TDM describes the product as transforming from headphones into a portable speaker “with a single physical twist” on its official product site.

The point is convenience: instead of taking out a separate speaker, a listener can change from private playback to nearby shared listening. The tradeoff is that a hybrid device has to work well in both roles. The available coverage does not establish that Neo matches purpose-built headphones or a dedicated portable speaker on sound quality.

TDM’s product site lists Neo at $249 and says “Ships Oct 16th.” Launch reports published October 6, 2026 said U.S. sales were available through Amazon, TDM’s website and Walmart, also at $249. Confirm the current price, stock and shipping estimate on the seller’s live listing before buying; availability can change.

Neo’s original Kickstarter campaign ran from February 10 to March 11, 2026. Kickstarter records $154,113 pledged by 766 backers against a $10,000 goal. Those figures document the campaign, not sound quality, reliability or customer satisfaction.
Battery claims differ by listening mode
TDM advertises “200+ Hrs.” on its product site. October launch coverage specifies up to 200 hours in headphone mode and up to 16 hours in speaker mode. These are manufacturer or launch-report figures, not standardized, independently verified battery measurements in the coverage available here. Actual runtime can depend on volume and use; treat the two modes as having separate endurance expectations rather than assuming the headline figure applies to speaker playback.

Weight, noise cancellation and comfort
TechRadar and SoundGuys list the headphones at 340 g. That is a meaningful consideration if you want a light pair for long listening sessions or daily commuting. TDM’s Kickstarter FAQ says Neo has no active noise cancellation (ANC), describing its ear cushions as providing passive isolation; TechRadar likewise flags the lack of ANC as a commuting drawback. If reducing steady travel noise is a priority, this is a feature omission to weigh before purchase.
At CES, TechRadar’s Matt Bolton found the brief wear trial comfortable, but the trial was too short to settle how Neo feels over a full day. Comfort varies by fit and listener, so that limited hands-on impression should not be read as a long-term comfort assessment.

What is—and is not—established about sound and durability
TechRadar’s CES report says Bolton did not have enough time to form a strong opinion about sound quality. He described the short headphone trial as balanced, while noting that the noisy show floor made speaker performance difficult to assess. TechRadar’s October launch coverage also says long-term hinge wear or failure remains to be tested. There is no full independent review or controlled comparison in the coverage cited here, so neither the sound in both modes nor the mechanism’s durability has been established through extended testing.
The campaign FAQ says the hinge uses high-tensile stainless steel and is designed for tens of thousands of rotations. That is a creator statement, not an independently validated lifespan result. The same FAQ describes a user-replaceable modular battery; verify the current manual or product documentation before relying on that claim or attempting any repair.

Features to verify before relying on them
October launch coverage lists Bluetooth 6.0 and an app offering Game Mode, location tracking and separate EQ controls. The older Kickstarter FAQ says Bluetooth is backward compatible and lists a 3.5 mm jack. Because that port detail comes from campaign-era information rather than current specifications, check TDM’s current product documentation if a wired connection matters to you.

- It may fit: someone who often moves between listening alone and sharing audio with people nearby, and values carrying one device over carrying two.
- It is a weaker fit: someone who prioritizes ANC for commuting, low weight, proven all-day comfort or established sound performance in both headphone and speaker modes.
- Compare the setup, not just the feature: consider how often you would actually use speaker mode, how you would carry the device, and whether one hybrid product is more useful to you than separate purpose-built headphones and a Bluetooth speaker. The coverage available does not provide a controlled head-to-head test or a performance winner.
