Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteBuy a Cybertruck if you want a high-performance electric pickup, have a workable charging plan, and will make real use of its bed, onboard power, or towing capacity. It is a harder case to justify if your priority is inexpensive hauling, frequent long-distance towing, easy parking, or predictable ownership costs. Cars.com reports 2026 U.S. prices from $71,985 to $101,985 including destination; the right decision depends on your exact trim, use, and local costs—not just the sticker price.
Who the Cybertruck suits—and who should think twice
It may suit you if…
- You specifically want an electric pickup with the Cybertruck’s distinctive design and performance, rather than simply the least expensive way to move cargo.
- You can charge conveniently where you live or work, and you are willing to plan around charging on longer trips.
- You will use the truck bed, available onboard power, or towing capability often enough to value those functions.
- You have room to park and maneuver a full-size pickup.
Look elsewhere or compare carefully if…
- You need the lowest-cost truck for occasional hauling.
- You routinely tow long distances and need to make trips with minimal charging stops.
- You cannot accommodate a large vehicle or do not have a practical charging arrangement.
- You need insurance, repair, resale, and energy costs to be easy to predict before buying.
The Cybertruck makes the most sense as a truck you want for its particular mix of design, electric performance, and utility. If your needs are mainly transportation or low-cost hauling, compare alternatives using actual out-the-door prices and the equipment you would buy—not broad starting-price or maximum-range claims.

What the 2026 trims cost and what the reported figures mean
Cars.com reports the following 2026 U.S. trim prices, including a $1,995 destination charge, and EPA-rated ranges. These are reported figures, not guaranteed transaction prices; Tesla’s live order price, fees, incentives, availability, and the specific vehicle’s equipment can change.
| 2026 trim | Reported price including destination | Reported EPA-rated range | Reported maximum towing capacity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dual Motor AWD | $71,985 (Cars.com) | 325 miles (Cars.com) | 7,500 lb (Cars.com) |
| Premium AWD | $81,985 (Cars.com) | 325 miles (Cars.com) | 11,000 lb (Cars.com) |
| Cyberbeast | $101,985 (Cars.com) | 320 miles (Cars.com) | 11,000 lb (Cars.com) |
Range is an EPA-rated figure, not a promise of the miles you will cover on a particular drive or while towing. The towing figures are maximum ratings, not evidence that every trailer or route is suitable. Tesla’s manual gives up to 11,000 lb for AWD vehicles with 20-inch wheels, while Cars.com reports 7,500 lb for the 2026 base Dual Motor trim and 11,000 lb for Premium AWD and Cyberbeast. Check the individual truck’s configuration and limits before relying on a rating.

How to choose among them
For many buyers, the meaningful comparison is the lower-priced Dual Motor AWD against Premium AWD: Cars.com reports a $10,000 price difference and a higher maximum tow rating for Premium. Car and Driver reports that Premium AWD and Cyberbeast have adjustable air suspension, while the base model uses coil springs with adaptive dampers. Decide whether the added towing capability and equipment matter to your use; do not pay for capability you will not use.
The Cyberbeast is the highest-priced trim in Cars.com’s reported lineup. Treat it primarily as a performance choice: if its additional acceleration is not a priority, compare the less expensive dual-motor models instead. For any competing pickup, compare the specific trim’s price, equipment, usable range on your routes, towing limits, bed utility, charging access, warranty, and service access.
How to estimate ownership costs without inventing a misleading total
There is no reliable universal Cybertruck ownership-cost figure established here. A useful estimate has to reflect your location, mileage, charging mix, driver and insurance profile, financing, and expected resale value. Build your own budget from these items:

- Purchase and financing: Start with the exact vehicle’s current price, destination and order charges, taxes, down payment, loan terms, and any incentive that actually applies to you. The Cars.com figures above are a reported snapshot, not a quote.
- Depreciation and resale: No dependable resale forecast is established here. Use more than one resale scenario rather than treating a single residual value as certain.
- Electricity: Estimate annual miles and energy use, then apply the rates you pay for home and public charging. Tesla says consumption and range vary with factors including speed, weather, climate controls, cargo, towing, terrain, tires, and accessories. Do not assume the EPA-rated range will describe your own usage.
- Insurance: Request quotes for your location, driver profile, coverage, and exact VIN or trim. No generalizable Cybertruck insurance premium is established here.
- Tires and scheduled maintenance: Include tire costs and wear, as well as the service intervals below. Tesla publishes recommended maintenance intervals, not a universal service-price schedule.
- Charging hardware and installation: Include a home charger and any electrical work you need. Optional Powershare Home Backup is separate from ordinary charging; Tesla says non-Foundation owners who want it must purchase its equipment and use a Tesla Certified Installer. Eligibility depends in part on home ownership and dedicated parking, and no universal installation price is established here.
- Repairs beyond warranty: Include a contingency appropriate to your finances. Out-of-warranty repair costs and frequency are not established here, so a precise all-in repair estimate would be speculative.
What towing does to range and trip planning
The truck’s maximum tow rating answers whether a particular load may be within a vehicle limit; it does not tell you how far you can travel with that load. Tesla’s towing instructions say, “Towing a trailer and carrying accessories increases vehicle weight and drag. As a result, driving range can decrease significantly.” No standardized range reduction for a particular trailer is established here.
Before towing, check the exact vehicle and wheel configuration, the combined trailer weight, tongue weight, and all vehicle limits. Tesla’s instructions recommend entering trailer details in a trailer profile and planning charging stops because actual energy use varies. Tesla also says damage resulting from improper towing is not covered by warranty.
For a route you expect to drive regularly, plan around the trailer and the conditions you will actually encounter. A rated range figure for the unloaded vehicle is not a loaded-trailer range promise. If you often travel long distances with a trailer and cannot be flexible about stops, that practical constraint may weigh more heavily than the headline towing capacity.

Everyday drawbacks beyond the purchase price
Range changes with use and conditions
Tesla’s manual describes displayed range as an estimate based on EPA-rated consumption and says personal driving and external conditions can change the result. Weather, speed, heating or cooling, short trips, cargo, towing, terrain, tires, and accessories can affect energy use. Plan regular journeys around your own route, load, and charging access rather than expecting the rated figure in all conditions.
Maintenance is reduced in some ways, not eliminated
An electric pickup does not need gasoline-engine service, but Tesla still recommends tire, wiper, filter, and brake-related maintenance. Its published guidance calls for:
- Tire rotation every 6,250 miles, or when the tread-depth difference reaches Tesla’s stated threshold.
- Wiper blade replacement every year.
- HEPA filter replacement every two years, or yearly for off-road or dirt-road use.
- Brake-fluid health checks every four years. Heavy towing, mountain descents, or performance use can call for more frequent checks.
- Brake-caliper cleaning and lubrication yearly or every 12,500 miles in salted-road areas.
These are intervals, not prices. No reliable Cybertruck tire price or lifespan is established here, so ask about the tires fitted to the vehicle and budget for the wear your driving and loads may cause.

Size and use case matter
A full-size pickup needs suitable parking and maneuvering space. Think through where you will keep it, where you will charge it, and whether its bed and onboard power fit your real needs. If you will rarely use pickup functions, the extra size and purchase cost may buy little practical value for you.
Warranty coverage and a used-Cybertruck recall check
Tesla lists basic coverage of four years or 50,000 miles and battery-and-drive-unit coverage of eight years or 150,000 miles, whichever limit comes first. Tesla also states a minimum 70% battery-capacity retention threshold during the battery-and-drive-unit warranty period. The warranty supplied with the specific vehicle controls, so review its terms before purchase.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For used vehicles, check the VIN for Tesla’s cantrail recall and confirm the remedy is complete. Tesla describes the voluntary recall as covering all model-year 2024 and 2025 vehicles manufactured from November 13, 2023, through February 27, 2025, because a stainless-steel panel may separate. Tesla says the replacement is free and takes approximately one hour. The production date range does not tell you whether a particular truck is affected or repaired; verify the individual VIN.
A practical buy-or-pass decision
- Choose the exact trim first. Compare its current price and equipment with the specific work or recreation you expect it to do.
- Test your charging plan against real routes. Include your home setup, public charging availability, and any regular trips with cargo or a trailer.
- Build a personal cost estimate. Include financing, insurance quotes, energy, tires, maintenance, charging installation if needed, and several resale scenarios.
- Check physical fit. Confirm that your parking and routine driving can accommodate a full-size truck.
- For a used truck, verify records and VIN status. Review the warranty that applies and confirm whether any recall remedy has been completed.
If these checks leave you valuing the Cybertruck’s distinctive design, performance, and truck-specific utility enough to justify its cost, it can be a considered purchase. If the numbers work only by assuming rated range under every condition, negligible maintenance, cheap insurance, or effortless towing, reassess the estimate before committing.
