Panasonic’s US store currently lists 4K players from $209.99 to $649.99, alongside standard Blu-ray/DVD players below $120. A September 2026 report says Panasonic raised advertised prices for its current North American 4K range; neither fact proves that future sales or price cuts are over.
What current prices can—and can’t—tell you
Panasonic’s US store listings, captured on 7 October 2026, show a wide spread rather than one price for every kind of player. The figures are manufacturer-store listing prices, not a guaranteed market-wide floor; prices and availability may change.

A September 2026 Cord Cutters News report says Panasonic raised advertised prices for its current North American 4K player range. That is evidence of a recent increase for that range—not proof that all brands or standard Blu-ray/DVD players rose, or that prices cannot fall again. No market-wide historical price series or verified future pricing commitment establishes that players will never be cheap again.
Should you buy now or wait for a sale?
Decide based on the discs you want to play, the features your existing equipment can use, and the price available from a seller you trust. If your current option meets those needs at a price you consider fair, there is no reliable basis here to assume waiting will produce a lower price—or that a sale will never come.

- Buy now if you need a player soon and have found a model that supports your discs and television or receiver.
- Wait and compare if your current player works, you are flexible about timing, or the model you want costs more than you are willing to pay. Future discounts and price cuts remain uncertain.
- Check the terms immediately before purchase: current seller, stock, return window, and warranty can matter as much as a listed price.
Which kind of Blu-ray player fits your collection?
DVD and standard Blu-ray
If your collection is DVDs and regular Blu-rays, a standard Blu-ray/DVD player may be enough. Panasonic’s current US collection includes such models below $120, so you do not have to buy a premium 4K player just to watch standard discs.
Ultra HD Blu-ray
If you own or plan to buy Ultra HD Blu-ray discs, confirm that the specific player supports that format. “Blu-ray player” is not a guarantee of Ultra HD Blu-ray compatibility; check the model’s supported formats before ordering.

HDR formats and connected equipment
For HDR playback, match the player’s supported formats to both your discs and your display. Panasonic identifies Dolby Vision playback on the DP-UB820; check each other model’s specifications rather than assuming all 4K players support the same HDR formats. Also check output and audio connections against your television or receiver, and whether any streaming features are useful to you.
Is a premium 4K player worth the extra cost?
Not automatically. The Panasonic listings range from $209.99 for the DP-UB150 to $649.99 for the DP-UB820, but price alone does not show which is right for your setup. Compare the exact disc formats, HDR support, connections, and network features you will use. Paying more for a capability your discs or equipment cannot use may not improve your experience.

Does losing streaming support mean a player stops working?
No. Sony’s UK notice says online streaming services ended on certain specified older players on 16 September 2025; it does not say those devices stopped playing discs. The notice is limited to the named Sony models and UK service context, so it should not be generalized to every player or treated as a statement about disc playback. See Sony’s UK support notice and check the exact model and region if streaming matters to you.
