To filter fake-looking brands out of Amazon search results, try Knockoff Amazon Shopping Filter, a free Chrome extension. It appraises brand signals and lets you dim or hide results, block brands, and allowlist brands you trust. It can help narrow a search, but it does not prove that a flagged listing is counterfeit, that its reviews are fake, or that its price is a genuine bargain.
What Knockoff filters—and what it does not
The extension’s Chrome Web Store listing describes its job as appraising brands in Amazon search results and filtering out listings it considers “junk.” The current listing says it supports 23 Amazon marketplaces. That makes Knockoff a brand-filtering aid for discovery, not a product-authentication service or a guarantee about any seller or listing. The listing showed version 1.5.0, updated August 25, 2026, and free availability when checked; extension features and availability can change.

A brand that looks generic or unfamiliar is not automatically counterfeit. A filtered result is a signal to inspect, not a verdict. Knockoff also does not score review authenticity or tell you whether a discount is unusually low.

Windows Central’s July 7, 2026 walkthrough describes controls for dimming or hiding results, blocking brands, and adding trusted brands to an allowlist. The choice between dimming and hiding matters: dimmed listings remain visible for a second look, while hiding reduces clutter more aggressively.

- Install Knockoff Amazon Shopping Filter from the Chrome Web Store listing.
- Search Amazon as usual and review the filtered results.
- Choose whether to dim or hide results you do not want to see, then block brands that repeatedly appear unwanted.
- If a legitimate brand is caught by the filter, add it to the allowlist so its listings can appear in later searches.
Because legitimate brands may be caught, treat the controls as adjustable search preferences rather than a permanent blacklist of proven counterfeiters.
What happens to your data
The current Chrome listing says brand appraisal runs locally. It also discloses two features that transmit information: seller-country display sends seller IDs, and “Help pick US alternatives” sends product pages opened by the user. The listing says both features are on by default and can be disabled in settings. Knockoff’s privacy policy, last updated August 21, 2026, says searches and visited URLs are not sent on their own and explains these features further. Check the current listing and policy before installing, since behavior and settings may change.

Brand signals, reviews, and deal prices are separate checks
Reviews
Knockoff does not determine whether customer reviews are authentic. Amazon says it analyzes reviews before publication and prohibits compensated reviews in its Customer Reviews policy. Amazon reported that it proactively blocked more than 200 million suspected fake reviews worldwide in 2022. In 2026 coverage of its 2025 Trustworthy Shopping Experience Report, Amazon described blocking hundreds of millions of suspected fake reviews and said its systems analyze thousands of data points across billions of reviews. These are Amazon-reported figures with different wording and reporting periods, not a directly comparable trend series. As Josh Meek, a senior data science manager on Amazon’s Fraud Abuse and Prevention team, put it, “Fake reviews intentionally mislead customers by providing information that is not impartial, authentic, or intended for that product or service.”

Discounts
A brand filter cannot establish whether an advertised discount is a good deal. Amazon says its deal savings use validated reference prices. Its “Typical” or “Was” price is the median price paid on Amazon in the previous 90 days, excluding limited-time deal prices; see Amazon’s deal price explanation. Amazon also reported more than $50 billion in worldwide savings on deals and coupons during 2025, a company-reported total rather than an independent estimate.

When this extension is useful
Knockoff may be useful when Amazon search results are crowded with unfamiliar or repetitive pseudo-brands and you want a customizable way to reduce that clutter. Keep it in the role of a search filter: investigate the seller, product details, reviews, and price separately before buying. A price-history tool answers a different question—how a product’s price has changed—not whether its brand is legitimate or its reviews authentic.
