Shokz OpenFit Pro adds adjustable adaptive noise reduction to an open-ear design. The feature is meant to reduce distractions without sealing the ear canal; it is not the same as the isolation offered by conventional sealed in-ear noise cancellation, and Shokz says traditional headphones may suit louder environments better.
What is new about OpenFit Pro?
Shokz introduced OpenFit Pro at CES 2026 as an open-ear flagship. Its headline feature is a noise-reduction mode that can be adjusted in the Shokz app. The design leaves the ear canal unsealed, distinguishing it from in-ear earbuds that depend on a physical seal for isolation.

Shokz describes the feature as a way to reduce unwanted sound while retaining some awareness of the surroundings. It does not promise silence: the company says OpenFit Pro “doesn’t offer true noise cancellation” and notes that traditional headphones may be more suitable in louder environments. These are manufacturer claims, not independently measured comparative results.

How does Shokz say the noise reduction works?
According to Shokz support, three microphones capture ambient noise. An Ear Adaptive Algorithm processes that information based on ear shape and fit, then the earbuds’ speakers generate inverse sound waves. Shokz says the system adjusts in real time as the environment changes. The user can also adjust the noise-reduction level in the Shokz app.

This describes Shokz’s account of the technology; the available product information does not establish an independent attenuation figure or show how much noise it removes in particular settings.
When might an open-ear design make sense?
Shokz positions OpenFit Pro for indoor fitness, strength and hybrid training, office cubicles, busy cafés, quiet hotel rooms, home listening and hiking. Those are suggested use cases, not independently verified performance comparisons. Because the earbuds do not seal the ear canal, they may be a better fit for listeners who want some environmental awareness than for people seeking strong isolation.

For louder environments where blocking sound is the priority, Shokz itself suggests traditional headphones may be more suitable. Open-ear noise reduction should therefore be understood as a distraction-reducing feature, not a substitute for sealed in-ear ANC.
