The Shokz OpenDots 2 are open-ear clip-on earbuds for listeners who want to hear their surroundings while listening—not sealed earbuds for blocking noise. Shokz’s published specifications promise up to 10 hours of music playback per charge and up to 40 hours with the case, but the design has no active noise cancellation. Whether that trade-off suits you matters more than the headline battery figure.
What the OpenDots 2 are—and what they are not
Announced on June 4, 2026, the OpenDots 2 are Shokz’s second-generation clip-on earbuds. They sit at the ear without eartips or an in-ear seal, leaving outside sound audible. That can be useful when you want awareness of nearby people or activity; it is a poor match if your priority is isolating yourself from a plane cabin, a loud workplace, or other persistent noise. What Hi-Fi reports that the model has no active noise cancellation.

Shokz describes the OpenDots 2 around its Bassphere 2.0 acoustic system, MirrorPitch sound direction and dynamic ear detection. Its launch announcement lists two air-conduction microphones and one bone-conduction microphone, and says the earbuds support multipoint pairing, Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair. These are manufacturer descriptions and feature claims, not independent measurements of sound quality or call performance.

How the open fit affects the buying decision
Choose this style if awareness matters
Because the earbuds do not seal the ear canal, outside sound remains part of the listening environment. That may be desirable for everyday listening when you want to remain aware of what is happening around you. An open fit does not, by itself, establish how clearly you will hear every environmental sound in every setting.
Look elsewhere if you need isolation
The same openness that preserves environmental awareness means the OpenDots 2 are not built to shut out surrounding noise. With no ANC, they are not the obvious choice for noisy commutes, flights or concentration in a loud office. Sealed earbuds with active noise cancellation are a more suitable category to investigate when reducing outside sound is the goal.

Consider fit and controls as personal factors
A clip-on design avoids an in-ear seal, but that does not prove it will feel secure or comfortable on every ear. If fit is decisive, try the earbuds where possible and check the return policy. Shokz lists dynamic ear detection; the available published information does not establish how that feature behaves in every situation.

Shokz’s music figures are up to 10 hours from the earbuds and up to 40 hours including the case. For calls, its figures are up to 6.5 hours per charge and up to 25 hours with the case. Those are separate use claims, not a promise that mixed listening and calling will reach either maximum. The listed five-minute quick charge is specifically associated with two hours of music playback.

How they compare with OpenDots One
The OpenDots 2 are the follow-up to the first-generation OpenDots One, which Shokz introduced as its first open-ear clip-on model. A meaningful upgrade decision should focus on the features that affect your use rather than the generation number alone.

- Water resistance: RTINGS identifies an improvement from IP54 on OpenDots One to IP57 on the OpenDots 2 earbuds. Check the case rating separately; OpenDots 2’s case is IP54.
- Battery and charging: Compare the published endurance figures, case charging options and your own expected mix of music and calls. The OpenDots 2 case supports both USB-C and Qi charging.
- Connectivity: OpenDots 2 supports multipoint, according to Shokz. Confirm that the features you rely on are available on the devices you use.
- Fit and noise: Both generations belong to the open-ear clip-on line, so neither should be chosen as a substitute for sealed earbuds with ANC when strong isolation is the priority.
The available comparison evidence establishes the rating change and mentions multipoint for OpenDots 2; it does not establish a complete, controlled feature-by-feature comparison of both generations. If you already own OpenDots One, decide whether the specific changes matter to you before paying to upgrade.
Price and review context

These are publication-reported regional prices from review coverage, not a confirmed current offer. Independent reviews offer reviewer observations rather than a substitute for your own fit or listening needs. Tom’s Guide’s three-week testing history belongs to its reviewer; it is not a claim of hands-on testing here.
Verdict: buy for openness, not noise cancellation
The OpenDots 2 make the most sense if you specifically want a clip-on open-ear fit, environmental sound to remain audible, and the convenience of multipoint and Qi case charging. Their published battery figures and separate earbud/case ratings are useful points of comparison, but they do not change the central limitation: there is no ANC or sealed fit. If isolation is your main requirement, choose a different earbud style; if the open fit is the reason you are shopping, check fit and current local pricing before deciding.
