Dutch police arrested a 24-year-old Amsterdam man on September 15, 2026, on suspicion of involvement with the ShinyHunters hacking group. Police also suspect him of attempting to solicit two murders abroad, based on information found on his laptop—but say that allegation is separate from the ShinyHunters investigation. The arrest announcement does not identify him as responsible for the April 2026 Rockstar Games breach.
What was the suspect arrested for?
Dutch police announced on September 29 that they had arrested the man in an investigation into ShinyHunters. The police identified him only by age and city, and described him as suspected of playing a role in the group. They did not publicly establish his identity or guilt. Dutch National Police announcement
A Rotterdam court ordered him held for an additional 90 days in pre-trial detention, according to police. That is a procedural decision, not a conviction. Police said seized storage devices were still being examined and did not rule out further arrests.
What are the murder-solicitation allegations?
Police say information found on the suspect’s laptop concerned two murders allegedly to be carried out abroad. They say there are indications he gave an order and are investigating attempted solicitation. These remain allegations; the public announcement does not establish that a murder was carried out or that the suspect was found guilty.

Was the arrested man the hacker behind the Rockstar breach?
That has not been established. ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for an April 2026 breach involving Rockstar Games, the company behind Grand Theft Auto. Rockstar confirmed that a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in connection with a third-party data breach. Neither the police arrest notice nor Rockstar’s statement connects this suspect to that incident. The Guardian’s report on the Rockstar breach

Accordingly, the arrest does not establish that this man took GTA 6 data. The Rockstar statement describes limited, non-material company information; it does not say that GTA 6 source code or development footage was stolen. This April 2026 incident should also not be confused with the separate 2022 leak of GTA VI development footage.

The FBI described the arrested man as one of ShinyHunters’ alleged leaders. In its September 29, 2026 announcement, the FBI said the group had allegedly breached more than 140 organizations since the previous year and had taken at least $70 million in extortion payments. Those are group-level allegations attributed to the FBI, not amounts or incidents attributed to this individual by the Dutch arrest announcement. FBI announcement
