Sherwin-Williams’ common stock trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SHW. The latest reported results available through July 28, 2026 cover the quarter ended June 30, 2026: net sales were $6.789 billion, diluted earnings per share (EPS) were $3.43, and management raised its full-year 2026 EPS outlook.
Those figures describe operating performance, not whether the shares are cheap or expensive. A useful SHW investment review must separate reported (GAAP) earnings from adjusted earnings, distinguish price-driven sales from volume growth and acquisitions, and track debt, cash generation, raw-material costs and demand.

What is Sherwin-Williams’ stock ticker?
The Sherwin-Williams Company’s common stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under SHW. Its fiscal 2025 Form 10-K states that the common stock has a par value of $0.33⅓ per share. The filing is available from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
A ticker identifies the security; it does not indicate a buy rating, expected return or valuation. To decide whether SHW fits a portfolio, investors need a current share price, valuation multiples, their own return requirements and a view of the company’s risks. The operating figures below come from company filings and releases and should not be mistaken for independent analyst estimates.

How did Sherwin-Williams perform in the latest reported quarter?
For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, Sherwin-Williams reported consolidated net sales of $6.789 billion, an increase of 7.5% year over year. Diluted EPS was $3.43, up 14.3%. Adjusted diluted EPS was $3.70, up 9.5%. These numbers were reported in the company’s July 28, 2026 second-quarter earnings release.
| Metric | Q2 2026 result | Year-over-year change | Qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Consolidated net sales | $6.789 billion | +7.5% | Quarter ended June 30, 2026 |
| Diluted EPS | $3.43 | +14.3% | Reported figure |
| Adjusted diluted EPS | $3.70 | +9.5% | Non-GAAP measure with stated exclusions |
| First-half net operating cash | $1.49 billion | Not a quarterly comparison | Six months ended June 30, 2026 |
Reported and adjusted EPS are not interchangeable. The company’s full-year adjusted guidance excludes $0.81 per share of Valspar acquisition-related amortization and $0.07 per share of severance and other restructuring expenses. Investors should use the definition supplied with each release rather than treating the adjusted number as a replacement for GAAP EPS.
What drove sales in each business segment?
Sherwin-Williams operates through three major reporting groups. Their growth rates have different causes, so adding them together without context can give a misleading picture of underlying demand.
Paint Stores Group
Paint Stores Group sales increased 5.1% to $3.890 billion in Q2 2026. Same-store sales rose 4.2%. Management said growth came principally from mid-single-digit price increases and low-single-digit volume growth, with all professional end markets higher.
Same-store sales and volume are important because they help separate activity in existing stores from the effects of acquisitions or new locations. A sales increase led mainly by price is also different from one led by more gallons sold. The release does not establish that price increases fully offset every cost increase.
Consumer Brands Group
Consumer Brands Group sales rose 21.5% to $983.5 million. The company attributed the increase primarily to the Suvinil acquisition, higher North American sales and favorable currency translation.

Because acquisition and currency effects contributed materially, the 21.5% figure is not directly comparable with Paint Stores Group same-store growth. Investors assessing organic momentum should look for separately disclosed volume, price, currency and acquisition effects in subsequent reports.

Performance Coatings Group sales increased 6.3% to $1.914 billion. Selling price and product mix, volume and favorable currency translation all contributed, according to the Q2 release.
Segment sales do not automatically translate into equal earnings growth. Mix, manufacturing costs, raw-material prices, selling expenses, amortization and restructuring charges can change segment margins even when sales rise.
What is Sherwin-Williams’ 2026 earnings guidance?
Following Q2 results, management raised its full-year 2026 outlook to:
| Guidance measure | 2026 range | What it includes or excludes |
|---|---|---|
| Diluted EPS | $10.92–$11.32 | Reported (GAAP) company guidance |
| Adjusted diluted EPS | $11.80–$12.20 | Excludes $0.81 per share of Valspar acquisition amortization and $0.07 per share of severance and other restructuring expenses |
These are Sherwin-Williams’ guidance ranges issued July 28, 2026, not an independent forecast. The difference between the ranges reflects the specified adjustments; it should not be interpreted as recurring cash earnings. Future results can differ if demand, costs, currency, interest expense or acquisition integration change.
Management also said customer sentiment and leading indicators pointed to continued demand softness in the second half while emphasizing actions within its control. That statement is management’s outlook as of the release date, not a guarantee about later quarters.
How much cash is Sherwin-Williams generating, and how is it being allocated?
For the six months ended June 30, 2026, Sherwin-Williams reported $1.49 billion of net operating cash. Over the same six-month period, it returned $2.23 billion to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases. The company repurchased 5.6 million shares in the first half and reported authorization to purchase another 24.0 million shares as of June 30, 2026.
These periods must be kept aligned: first-half cash flow and distributions are not a June 30 debt balance, and they should not be combined with year-end 2025 leverage as though all measurements were taken on one date. Share repurchases reduce share count only when completed and at the prices paid; authorization is not the same as a future commitment.
What is SHW’s dividend?
On July 22, 2026, the board declared a regular quarterly dividend of $0.80 per common share, payable September 11, 2026, to shareholders of record on August 21, 2026. The declaration is documented in the company’s dividend announcement.

That is a historical record, not a promise that the dividend will rise every year or remain unchanged under all business conditions. Dividend investors should examine free cash flow, earnings, debt service and the board’s future declarations rather than relying on the streak alone.
How much debt does Sherwin-Williams have?
The FY2025 Form 10-K reported $10.664 billion of net debt and net debt of 2.4 times EBITDA as of December 31, 2025. Those are year-end 2025 figures from the annual report, not a debt measurement for June 30, 2026.
Debt matters because Sherwin-Williams must service interest while funding stores, manufacturing, technology, acquisitions, dividends and repurchases. The Q2 release cited higher interest expense from increased borrowings as one factor affecting results. When reviewing a later quarter, compare the latest debt, EBITDA, interest expense and operating cash on compatible dates.

What risks should SHW investors watch?
Cyclical demand and a soft second half
The 2025 Form 10-K identifies prolonged economic downturns in cyclical parts of the economy as a risk. The Q2 2026 release said demand remained soft and that management’s leading indicators suggested softness could continue in the second half. Watch Paint Stores same-store sales, professional end-market activity and reported volume for evidence of demand changes.

Raw-material, energy and logistics inflation
The company cited broad-based cost inflation across raw materials, energy, logistics and packaging. It also reported a moderate rise in raw-material costs in Q2. A price increase can support revenue, but it does not prove that margin will be protected: the timing and size of cost increases, customer resistance, product mix and manufacturing efficiency all matter.
Pricing versus volume
Paint Stores growth was driven principally by mid-single-digit pricing and low-single-digit volume growth. Investors should track whether future sales gains continue to come from units sold, price realization or both. Falling volume beneath higher prices can signal weakening underlying demand even when reported revenue increases.
Acquisition and integration exposure
Consumer Brands’ 21.5% Q2 sales growth was primarily acquisition-related, including Suvinil. Integration costs, amortization, currency movements and the acquired business’s margins can affect how much of that sales growth reaches earnings and cash flow.
Competition and execution
The annual report lists competition as a material risk. Relevant operating indicators include segment margins, customer retention, professional-channel activity, product mix, store productivity and the company’s ability to maintain service while controlling costs.

Is Sherwin-Williams stock a good buy?
The available company materials establish operating results, guidance, cash returns, leverage and risks, but they do not establish an appropriate valuation or whether SHW is attractive at any particular market price. A responsible buy decision requires at least the current share price, forward and historical valuation measures, an estimate of normalized earnings and a margin-of-safety judgment.
Use this framework rather than treating one strong quarter as a verdict:
- Check the price and valuation. Compare the current price with forward GAAP EPS, adjusted EPS and long-run growth assumptions. Decide which earnings definition is appropriate before calculating a multiple.
- Separate organic growth from price, volume, acquisitions and currency. Paint Stores same-store sales and volume answer a different question from Consumer Brands acquisition-led growth.
- Inspect margin quality. Determine whether price and mix are covering raw-material, energy, logistics, employee, technology and interest costs.
- Test cash conversion. Compare operating cash with reported earnings, capital spending, dividends and repurchases over several periods.
- Stress the balance sheet. Model weaker demand, higher input costs or higher interest expense against the reported debt load.
- Set a monitoring plan. Revisit results after each release instead of assuming July 2026 guidance remains current indefinitely.

- Changes to full-year guidance and management’s demand commentary.
How can an investor buy SHW shares?
Because SHW is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, an investor generally accesses it through a brokerage account that supports U.S. exchange-listed equities. Account eligibility, commissions, foreign-exchange charges, taxes, fractional-share availability and order types depend on the investor’s country and provider. Verify those terms directly with the chosen regulated broker; the company’s listing does not endorse any particular service.

Bottom line for SHW investors
Sherwin-Williams delivered strong reported Q2 2026 growth and raised its full-year EPS guidance, while first-half cash returns to shareholders were substantial. The quality of that growth is mixed: Paint Stores benefited from pricing and modest volume gains, Consumer Brands benefited heavily from the Suvinil acquisition and currency, and the company still faced soft demand, cost inflation, higher interest expense and meaningful debt. SHW can be researched as a durable, cash-generating business, but the supplied results alone cannot answer whether its shares are a good buy at today’s price.
