Sheet Metal is not a substitute for every metal resource in ARC Raiders. It is a common, Outpost-focused basic material, while Metal Parts are a broader crafting input and Mechanical Components are refined intermediates made in the Refiner. Keep Sheet Metal when you are working toward Outpost construction, gather Metal Parts for general crafting and refining, and treat Mechanical Components as a separate downstream resource rather than a higher-grade version of Sheet Metal.
Quick comparison
The three names describe different jobs in the game’s crafting economy, not real-world grades of steel or aluminum. Their roles, acquisition methods and demand are distinct:

| Material | Role | How you obtain it | Known demand | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sheet Metal | Common basic material centered on Outpost construction | Scavenging, Celeste, and industrial or technological areas identified by a recent guide | Outpost furniture; an Outpost project lists five units; Sheltered Retreat is also identified as a project use | The item reference says it cannot be recycled or salvaged |
| Metal Parts | One of the five basic crafting materials; a general-purpose input | Scavenging, recycling, Celeste, Scrappy and quests | Wide range of crafted items and the Refiner recipe for Mechanical Components | Its broad usefulness makes it easier to spend accidentally when you need it for refining |
| Mechanical Components | Refined intermediate used for weapons, attachments and other recipes | Refiner: seven Metal Parts plus three Rubber Parts | Downstream weapon and attachment crafting, among other uses | It is a crafted component, not interchangeable with Sheet Metal or Metal Parts |
The exact project, vendor inventory and recipe data can change with updates. The five-Sheet-Metal project requirement is listed on an ARC Raiders Wiki page last modified in 2026, the Sheltered Retreat use comes from a PC Gamer guide published October 9, 2026, and the seven-plus-three Refiner recipe is listed by arcraiders.co without a stated publication year. Check the current in-game item descriptions and official patch notes before treating any quantity or project as permanent.

What Sheet Metal is for
An Outpost-oriented basic material
Sheet Metal occupies the basic-material tier, but its practical identity is tied to the Outpost. The ARC Raiders Wiki describes it as a common material used in crafting and specifically required for Outpost furniture. That makes it a planning resource: its value is often highest when your next construction task is known, rather than when you are simply trying to maximize general crafting capacity.

A listed Outpost project requires five units. The requirement is small enough to look disposable while looting, yet large enough that spending the material elsewhere can leave you one or two units short when you return to construction. The item reference also says Sheet Metal cannot be recycled or salvaged, so it does not function like a flexible reserve that can later be broken down for another component.
Projects associated with the material
The same item reference associates Sheet Metal with Outpost furniture and a five-unit project. A newer guide also names Sheltered Retreat as a project use. Because projects are tied to the game’s live content, read those names as current guide information rather than an immutable recipe list. If your version shows a different requirement, the in-game project panel is the authority for your session.
When to keep it
- Keep Sheet Metal if an active or near-term Outpost project calls for it.
- Keep a small reserve when you are still unlocking or furnishing the Outpost and have not checked every listed project requirement.
- Do not discard it on the assumption that it can be recovered through recycling; the item reference specifically says recycling and salvaging are unavailable.
- Do not convert it in the Refiner expecting Mechanical Components. The documented Mechanical Components recipe uses Metal Parts and Rubber Parts, not Sheet Metal.
Where to find Sheet Metal
Scavenging industrial and technological areas
Scavenging is the basic acquisition route. The October 9, 2026 PC Gamer guide narrows the practical search to industrial and technological areas. That description is more useful than treating every map container as equally likely: when you are choosing between locations, prioritize spaces whose visual theme suggests fabrication, maintenance, machinery or electronics rather than spending an entire run searching unrelated residential loot.
Recommended Free Tools
Area labels and loot tables can be adjusted by patches. Use the guide’s industrial and technological description as a route priority, then confirm the current item tooltip or your latest successful runs. A location that was productive in one update can become merely acceptable after a balance pass.
Buying from Celeste
Celeste is another documented source. Buying is the predictable option when a project is blocked and you have the required currency or vendor access. It trades expedition time for a controlled acquisition, so it is especially useful when a single missing unit is delaying an Outpost build.
Vendor stock is live-game data. If Sheet Metal is absent from Celeste’s current inventory, do not assume the item was removed permanently; stock, refresh timing and progression conditions may vary by update. Recheck the vendor after the relevant refresh or consult the current in-game description.

A practical search routine
- Open the Outpost project or furniture requirement and note the exact number shown in your current build.
- Check Celeste before deploying. If the needed quantity is available and affordable, compare that guaranteed purchase with the time and risk of a scavenging run.
- If you choose to scavenge, select an area with an industrial or technological theme, as recommended by the October 9, 2026 guide.
- During the run, keep Sheet Metal separate from Metal Parts in your mental inventory count; the names are similar but their uses are not interchangeable.
- After extraction, verify the Outpost project again. This catches cases where a patch or a different project tier changed the requirement.
What Metal Parts are for
The broad basic crafting input
Metal Parts are one of the five basic crafting materials listed by the ARC Raiders Wiki. Unlike Sheet Metal’s strong Outpost association, Metal Parts feed a wide range of crafted items. Their role is therefore less about one project and more about maintaining general crafting flexibility.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchThat breadth creates an inventory-management trap. A stack that looks excessive can be consumed by ordinary crafting and then be unavailable when you decide to refine Mechanical Components. Treat Metal Parts as a shared budget for immediate recipes and future refining, not as surplus simply because no current blueprint is highlighted.
Documented acquisition channels
The item reference lists scavenging, recycling, Celeste, Scrappy and quests as Metal Parts sources. These channels give you several ways to rebuild a depleted supply:
- Scavenging: collect them during ordinary expeditions rather than restricting your search to one named area.
- Recycling: the reference identifies recycling as a source for Metal Parts. Use the current recycling interface to see which eligible items produce them and how much you receive.
- Celeste: check the vendor when you need a predictable quantity and the listing is available.
- Scrappy: the reference names Scrappy as another source; inspect the current interaction and output because live-game assignments can change.
- Quests: quest rewards can supplement your stock without requiring a dedicated material run.
The list establishes ways Metal Parts can enter your inventory; it does not mean every source is always available, unlimited or equally efficient. Vendor stock, quest rewards and recycling yields should be checked in your current build.
When Metal Parts should take priority
Prioritize Metal Parts when you are crafting several unrelated items, preparing a weapon or attachment plan, or approaching a Refiner batch. If your immediate goal is only an Outpost furniture project and you already have enough Sheet Metal, diverting a run toward Metal Parts may be more useful because the latter supports both direct crafting and the refined-component chain.

Recipe and position in the chain
Mechanical Components are not another name for Sheet Metal. The documented Refiner recipe is seven Metal Parts plus three Rubber Parts for one Mechanical Components output. The recipe places Metal Parts upstream and Rubber Parts alongside them; Sheet Metal is not listed as an ingredient.

This distinction matters when planning storage. Holding Sheet Metal does not move you closer to a Mechanical Components batch. To prepare that batch, count Metal Parts and Rubber Parts separately, then use the Refiner only when the resulting component fits your next crafting plan.
What Mechanical Components make possible
The item reference describes Mechanical Components as inputs for weapons and attachments, among other items. They are therefore a refined intermediate: more specialized than a basic part, but not necessarily the final product you equip. Their value is realized downstream, when a weapon, attachment or another recipe actually consumes them.
Because the recipe consumes seven Metal Parts at a time, refining too early can reduce your ability to make ordinary items. Conversely, waiting until you have a weapon or attachment plan can prevent your Metal Parts from being scattered across low-priority crafts. The right timing depends on your current blueprints and the amount of Rubber Parts you can replace.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteRefiner planning checklist
- Confirm that the current Refiner recipe still reads seven Metal Parts and three Rubber Parts.
- Reserve those ingredients before starting the batch; do not count Sheet Metal toward either requirement.
- Check which weapon, attachment or other recipe will consume the Mechanical Components.
- Keep enough unrefined Metal Parts for immediate basic crafts that you cannot postpone.
- Review the output after refining, since a patch can alter recipes or downstream demand.
Sheet Metal versus Metal Parts
Role
Sheet Metal is specialized by destination: Outpost construction and furniture. Metal Parts are generalized by recipe coverage: they appear in a wide range of crafting and also serve as the main metal input for Mechanical Components.
Acquisition
Sheet Metal’s documented routes are scavenging, Celeste and industrial or technological areas. Metal Parts have a wider documented source list that adds recycling, Scrappy and quests. That difference means a failed Sheet Metal search may be solved by a vendor check, while a Metal Parts shortage can be addressed through several recovery systems.
Conversion
Sheet Metal cannot be recycled or salvaged according to its item reference. Metal Parts are listed as obtainable through recycling and are consumed by the Refiner recipe. Neither statement makes one material universally better: they describe different directions of the crafting economy.

Decision table
| Your immediate objective | Material to protect first | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Complete Outpost furniture or the listed five-unit project | Sheet Metal | The project directly consumes it, and the item cannot be recovered through recycling or salvaging. |
| Craft assorted basic items | Metal Parts | They are used across a broad range of recipes. |
| Prepare weapons or attachments that require a refined component | Metal Parts and Rubber Parts | Both are required for the documented Refiner conversion. |
| Recover from a general metal shortage | Metal Parts | The documented source list includes scavenging, recycling, vendors, Scrappy and quests. |
| Decide whether to recycle or salvage an item | Check the current item output | Sheet Metal itself is not recyclable or salvageable, while Metal Parts are listed as a recycling source. |
A disciplined inventory strategy
Separate construction stock from crafting stock
Use two mental buckets even though the game may display them in one inventory: Sheet Metal reserved for Outpost work, and Metal Parts available for ordinary recipes or refining. This prevents the common mistake of seeing similar names and assuming one can cover the other.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Write down or screenshot the current project requirement before leaving the Outpost. The known five-unit requirement is tied to a specific listed project, not a universal rule for every future build. Your own project panel may show a different quantity after an update.
Use a three-question check before spending
- Is this item named in an active project or recipe? If yes, protect the exact quantity shown in the current interface.
- Can the item be recovered? Sheet Metal cannot be recycled or salvaged according to the reference; Metal Parts have more documented replenishment routes.
- What is the next dependency? A Mechanical Components plan requires seven Metal Parts and three Rubber Parts, so spending seven Metal Parts on low-priority crafts changes the timing of that plan.
Balance vendor purchases against scavenging
Celeste provides a direct route for both Sheet Metal and Metal Parts when listed. Buying is attractive for a shortfall that blocks a project immediately. Scavenging is more efficient when you can collect several needed materials in one expedition, especially Metal Parts, whose source list is broader. There is no evidence here for a fixed price, stock size or refresh interval, so use the values shown by your current vendor rather than relying on an old guide.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
Mistake: treating all metal names as interchangeable
Correction: read the destination first. Outpost furniture points to Sheet Metal; broad crafting and Refiner preparation point to Metal Parts; weapon and attachment recipes may point to Mechanical Components.
Mistake: discarding Sheet Metal because it looks like a low-tier item
Correction: check the Outpost project list before discarding it. Its common rarity does not remove its project requirement, and the item reference says it cannot be recycled or salvaged later.
Mistake: refining every Metal Part immediately
Correction: reserve seven Metal Parts and three Rubber Parts only when a Mechanical Components output supports a real crafting plan. The broad basic-material role of Metal Parts means premature refining can create a different shortage.
Best Value
Mistake: assuming a guide’s project name is permanent
Correction: treat Sheltered Retreat and the five-unit project as version-sensitive references. Confirm the project panel in your build before deploying specifically for that number.
Mistake: searching only one loot category
Correction: for Sheet Metal, begin with industrial or technological areas as the recent guide recommends, but keep the current item description and your latest runs as the final check. For Metal Parts, use the wider source network rather than waiting for one location.
How updates affect these materials
No official publisher source confirming the current material data was identified in the available references. The practical information comes from community item references and a recent gaming guide. That does not make the information useless, but it does affect how confidently you should treat exact recipes, vendor availability and project requirements.

Keep the date attached to any notes you make, because a quantity that was correct in 2026 can change in a later balance pass.
Recommended priorities by player goal
Building the Outpost
Protect Sheet Metal first, inspect Celeste, and target industrial or technological areas if scavenging is necessary. Do not assume Metal Parts can stand in for the project requirement.
Crafting a mixed loadout
Build a Metal Parts reserve because the material supports many recipes. Keep Sheet Metal only to the amount required by current or near-term Outpost work, then reassess after checking projects.
Preparing weapons and attachments
Identify the recipes that call for Mechanical Components, then work backward to seven Metal Parts and three Rubber Parts per Refiner batch. This backward plan tells you whether to scavenge, recycle eligible items, visit Celeste or pursue quests and Scrappy for additional Metal Parts.
Recovering after an inefficient spend
If you spent Metal Parts on low-priority crafts, use the documented alternative channels rather than dismantling Sheet Metal. If you are short on Sheet Metal, check Celeste and make a targeted industrial or technological-area run; the item cannot be reclaimed through recycling or salvaging.
Bottom-line guidance
Keep Sheet Metal for Outpost construction, especially when a project or furniture recipe is active. Treat Metal Parts as the flexible backbone of general crafting and the required feedstock for Mechanical Components. Use the Refiner only after confirming the current seven-Metal-Parts and three-Rubber-Parts recipe and having a downstream weapon, attachment or other craft in mind. Since all listed quantities and sources are patch-sensitive, let the current in-game descriptions and project panels overrule older community lists.
