The Sharp AQUOS sense7 is a compact Japanese-market Android phone from 2022. Its 6.1-inch OLED screen, light body, headphone jack and microSD slot remain appealing, and Sharp documents an Android 14 update. But it is now an older used-phone purchase: battery condition, variant-specific support and carrier compatibility matter more than its original spec sheet. U.S. buyers should treat it as an import and confirm the exact model and carrier approval before paying.
What the AQUOS sense7 is
The AQUOS sense7 is Sharp’s 2022 midrange phone, positioned around a practical feature set rather than flagship performance. It launched with Android 12 and a Snapdragon 695 5G processor. The SIM-free Japanese model, SH-M24, went on sale from November 25, 2022, according to Sharp’s launch announcement. The Docomo SH-53C was announced separately in 2022 in Sharp’s carrier announcement.
“AQUOS sense7” is a product family name, not a guarantee that every listing describes the same phone. The SH-M24, Docomo SH-53C, au SHG10, and Rakuten Mobile and UQ Mobile versions can differ in radio support, software, preinstalled apps and update delivery. The sense7 plus is a separate model; the sense8, sense9 and sense10 are later generations. Do not use their specifications or support details to judge a standard sense7.

Sharp publishes separate pages for the au SHG10 and Rakuten Mobile versions, as well as a UQ support page. Ask a seller for the model number printed in the phone’s settings or on its documentation, rather than relying on a listing title that only says “AQUOS sense7.”
Design, display and everyday handling
At 158 g and about 70 mm wide, the sense7 is smaller and lighter than many current large-screen phones. Its 6.1-inch IGZO OLED panel offers Full HD+ resolution and OLED contrast. Sharp describes IGZO OLED power-management features intended to reduce energy use, but the specifications cited here do not establish a refresh-rate figure that applies universally to every variant. If a high refresh rate is a requirement, verify it for the exact model rather than inferring one from the panel name.
The practical extras are unusually useful on a compact phone: a 3.5 mm headphone jack, microSD expansion, USB-C, fingerprint recognition and mask-compatible face recognition. Japanese models also support Osaifu-Keitai; that Japanese mobile-wallet support should not be assumed to provide the same payment services available in another country. Sharp lists IPX5/IPX8 water resistance and IP6X dust resistance, but these are ratings for a new device under specified conditions, not a promise that an aged or repaired used phone is waterproof.

Performance: fine for basics, dated for demanding use
The Snapdragon 695 and 6 GB of RAM suit messaging, browsing, email, maps, video streaming and ordinary social apps. By 2026, this is an older midrange platform, so it offers less performance headroom than newer phones. Heavy 3D games, large multitasking workloads and sustained camera processing are the situations most likely to feel limiting. No benchmark score is necessary to make the buying distinction: consider it a budget everyday phone, not a contemporary performance device.

The rear system pairs a 50.3 MP main camera with an 8 MP ultrawide. Sharp highlights the main camera’s 1/1.55-inch sensor as a major change from the previous sense6 generation in its launch announcement. A relatively large sensor can help gather light, but it does not by itself establish image quality, particularly against newer computational photography systems.
The main camera is the more substantial of the two rear cameras. The 8 MP ultrawide is a lower-resolution companion, and the listed system has no dedicated telephoto camera for optical zoom. Sharp’s product material lists features such as AI Auto, AI Live Shutter and Focus Playback for applicable variants, but actual results depend on the camera software and conditions. The front camera is 8 MP.

For a used unit, test the cameras rather than relying on megapixel counts: take daylight and indoor photos, try moving subjects and portraits, compare the ultrawide in good and dim light, and record walking video. Check autofocus, shutter response and whether the camera behaves consistently after updating. Those results cannot be inferred from sensor size or listed features alone.
Battery and charging: condition matters more than capacity
The nominal battery capacity is 4,570 mAh, and Sharp lists USB Power Delivery Revision 3.0 support. Its product page also promotes long video playback, but advertised or standardized runtime figures are not the same as mixed-use results on a particular phone.

Before buying, ask whether the battery has been replaced, request battery-health information if the software provides it, and check charging behavior. Sudden percentage drops, shutdowns under load, unusual heat, intermittent charging or a lifted display are reasons to reject the unit; swelling can be a safety issue.

Android updates and support status
Sharp documents Android 13 and Android 14 updates for the sense7. Its support listing records the Android 14 update as released on March 12, 2026. That is a useful update beyond the phone’s Android 12 launch, but the reviewed official information does not establish Android 15 or Android 16 support, or a future security-patch end date.
Update timing and availability can vary by carrier model and rollout. Sharp’s page for the au SHG10 describes OS upgrades for two years from launch; that statement is specific to that page and should not be treated as a universal policy for SH-M24 or every carrier version. Before paying, check the exact model’s support page and open the phone’s update screen. Depending on its software, the route is typically Settings → System → System update, or a similarly named Software update section. Check the displayed Android version and security patch date; an Android 14 label alone does not tell you how current security fixes are.
To install an offered update, back up important data, connect to stable Wi-Fi, charge the phone, free enough storage and avoid interrupting installation. If no update appears, check the model-specific Sharp or carrier page: rollout timing can differ. If installation fails, restart and retry on a reliable connection after freeing space. Avoid unofficial firmware flashing unless you understand the risks of data loss, incompatibility and warranty consequences.

Will the AQUOS sense7 work in the United States?
Do not treat the Japanese SH-M24 as a guaranteed U.S. phone. Sharp lists these bands for the SIM-free model: 5G NR n3, n28, n41, n77, n78 and n79; LTE FDD Bands 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 12, 17, 18, 19, 21 and 28; LTE TDD Bands 38, 41 and 42; W-CDMA Bands 1, 2, 5 and 8; and GSM at 850, 900, 1,800 and 1,900 MHz. The official list is on Sharp’s SH-M24 specifications page. Band overlap is not proof that a U.S. carrier will accept or fully support the phone.
Compatibility also depends on carrier certification and IMEI acceptance, VoLTE provisioning, emergency calling, 5G support, Wi-Fi calling and—if you plan to use it—eSIM activation. Sharp’s March 12, 2026 SH-M24 update notice mentions a fix for an issue in which emergency calls could fail with certain U.S. SIM cards. This is a specific software notice, not confirmation that the handset is supported by every U.S. network.
- Get the exact model number; “sense7” alone is not enough.
- Ask the intended carrier to check the device’s IMEI before purchase where possible.
- Confirm voice-over-LTE, emergency calling, data, SMS and any required eSIM or Wi-Fi calling service with that carrier.
- Buy from a seller with a return policy, then test ordinary calling, messaging and data promptly.
If dependable U.S. calling, emergency service, local warranty and easy returns are priorities, a model officially sold in the United States is the lower-risk choice.
Is it worth buying in 2026?
It can make sense as an inexpensive used phone if the handset is in good condition, the price is well below newer supported options, and its Japanese-market limitations suit the buyer. The combination of compact size, OLED, headphone jack, microSD and IP-rated construction is still distinctive. Android 14 support is also better than an assumption based only on its 2022 launch might suggest.

It is a poor fit when the price approaches that of a newer phone, the battery is uncertain, long-term security support is important, or the buyer expects high-end gaming and camera performance. There is no dependable current street-price figure established here, so compare live listings and calculate the total cost, including shipping, taxes, import fees, accessories and the risk of a difficult return. Factor in overseas repair and parts access as well.
Who may want it
- A buyer in Japan seeking a compact, light phone with a headphone jack and expandable storage.
- A used-phone buyer who has verified the variant, battery condition, update status and network fit.
- A U.S. import buyer willing to confirm carrier acceptance and accept the added support and return risk.
Who should look elsewhere
- Anyone who needs guaranteed U.S. carrier support or a primary phone with no uncertainty around emergency calling.
- Anyone who needs a long, clearly documented future software-support runway.
- Buyers seeking modern flagship-level gaming, zoom or computational camera capabilities.
Alternatives to compare before buying
If you like Sharp’s compact Japanese phones, compare the sense7 with the newer AQUOS sense8, sense9 and sense10, checking each model’s current support commitment and local availability rather than assuming specifications or policies. For an internationally straightforward U.S. purchase, compare current Google Pixel A-series, Samsung Galaxy A-series and Motorola Moto G-series models. Their exact value, camera quality and update terms depend on the specific model and current listing; the practical advantage to prioritize is official local carrier support, warranty and service access.
