Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The audio output on a Sharp AQUOS TV is not in one universal spot: its location and type vary by model. Check the rear and side connection panels for labels such as DIGITAL AUDIO OUT, AUDIO OUT, a headphone symbol, or an HDMI port marked ARC. Then verify the port against the connection diagram in the manual for your exact model.
Find your AQUOS model number first
Look for the full model number on the TV’s label or in its on-screen identification information. Use that number to find the matching operation manual; port layouts and menu options differ between AQUOS families. Sharp’s manuals for the PN-UH601/PN-UH701 and LC-70/60LE847U and LC-70/60LE745U describe different audio-output arrangements.

Where to look and what the labels mean
Inspect both the rear and side connection panels. Read the printed labels instead of relying on a port’s shape alone, then match them to the connection diagram for your model.
- DIGITAL AUDIO OUT: An optical digital output on the documented PN-UH601/PN-UH701 models, intended for an AV amplifier or similar device with a DIGITAL AUDIO INPUT. See Sharp’s PN-UH601/PN-UH701 operation manual.
- AUDIO OUT or a headphone symbol: This may be a headphone connection, an external-audio output, or a shared terminal. On PN-UH601/PN-UH701, Sharp says the “AUDIO OUT terminal is also used for headphones.” Check the manual before connecting equipment or changing settings.
- HDMI marked ARC: This is the HDMI connection to use for audio return to a compatible amplifier or soundbar. The designated HDMI input is model-specific; Sharp identifies HDMI IN 1 for the cited LC-70/60LE847U and LC-70/60LE745U models. Check the LC-70/60LE847U and LC-70/60LE745U manual.
Choose a connection that matches both devices
| Connection | Use it when | Check before connecting |
|---|---|---|
| Optical digital audio | The TV has DIGITAL AUDIO OUT and the amplifier or soundbar has an optical DIGITAL AUDIO INPUT. | Confirm that both ports are present and consult the TV manual for audio-format settings. |
| HDMI ARC | Both the TV and audio system support ARC. | Use the HDMI port designated for ARC on the TV and an ARC-compatible cable. The correct HDMI port varies by model. |
| Headphone or shared AUDIO OUT | You want to connect headphones or use an output supported by the TV and receiving equipment. | Check whether the jack is shared and how the TV handles speakers, output selection, and volume. |
ARC can carry TV audio to compatible equipment over HDMI without a separate optical cable. It works only when both devices support ARC and the cable is connected to the TV’s designated ARC port. A headphone connection may also be an option for some TV and soundbar combinations, but compatibility depends on the specific models; Sharp’s soundbar manual advises checking the TV manual to identify its ARC terminal. See Sharp’s soundbar manual.

For the PN-UH601/PN-UH701 optical or AUDIO OUT connection
These models offer Digital Audio Output settings. Sharp describes PCM for equipment that does not support Dolby Digital and Bitstream for an audio system that does. Match the setting to the receiving equipment and program signal rather than assuming one option suits every system.
When a cable is inserted in the shared AUDIO OUT terminal, the output selection also matters: choosing Headphone mutes the TV speakers, while choosing Audio out sends a constant signal whose level cannot be adjusted with the TV’s volume control. Sharp advises reducing the volume before using headphones. These behaviors apply to the named PN-UH models; check your own manual before changing settings.

For ARC on the cited LC models
For the LC-70/60LE847U and LC-70/60LE745U, Sharp specifies an ARC-compatible amplifier connected to the ARC-capable HDMI terminal, HDMI IN 1, with an ARC-compatible cable. The Audio Return Channel setting can be Auto or Off. Do not assume HDMI IN 1 is the ARC port on a different AQUOS model; confirm the label and manual.

- It is a reliable and efficient product for you
- Connect two 3.5mm audio cables to extend the connection
- Make the right connection with this 3.5mm audio coupler, and splice together two 3.5mm cables

If the connected audio system is silent
- Confirm the exact TV model. Find its operation manual and connection diagram.
- Match the output to an input. For optical, verify DIGITAL AUDIO OUT on the TV and optical DIGITAL AUDIO INPUT on the audio system. For ARC, verify support on both devices and use the TV’s designated ARC HDMI port.
- Review the TV’s audio settings. Check the relevant output or ARC setting, and ensure the selected format is supported by the receiving equipment.
- If ARC still fails on the cited LC models, use optical as Sharp’s fallback. Connect an optical-fiber cable and set Audio Return Channel to Off, as directed in the LC-70/60LE847U and LC-70/60LE745U manual.
- For a shared AUDIO OUT jack, check its mode and level behavior. On PN-UH601/PN-UH701, Headphone mode mutes the TV speakers, whereas Audio out is constant-level; account for that behavior before raising the receiving device’s volume.
