What matters most in your home?
If carrying weight is your concern
Dyson lists the V15 Detect at 6.83 lb and Shark lists the Stratos IZ862H at about 8.9 lb. That makes the V15 lighter on the manufacturers’ figures. Listed weight alone does not establish which vacuum feels easier to steer: balance, floorhead design, and how you use the wand also affect handling.
If you want automatic dirt sensing
Shark says Clean Sense IQ detects dirt that may not be visible and automatically boosts power; its product page also describes a clean-floor indicator. Dyson describes particle sensing and power adaptation on the V15, and a particle-count display on Gen5detect. These are different feature implementations, not evidence by themselves that one machine cleans better.

If you clean under low furniture or are sensitive to vacuum odor
RTINGS identifies the Stratos IZ862H’s flexible wand and odor-neutralizer cartridge as advantages in its comparison with the V15 Detect. Those features may matter if furniture clearance or vacuum odor affects your routine. They are model-specific observations, not claims about every Shark vacuum.

If runtime is a deciding factor
Dyson lists the V15 Detect for up to 60 minutes and Gen5detect for up to 70 minutes. Dyson says runtime varies with power mode, dust level, floor type, and attachments. The cited evidence does not provide a directly comparable Stratos IZ862H runtime result, so it cannot establish a Shark-versus-Dyson runtime winner.

If your home is large or you want a larger bin
Dyson positions Gen5outsize as a larger-format option: it says the bin is 150% larger and the cleaner head 25% wider than Gen5detect, and advertises up to 140 minutes with an extra click-in battery. Its listed weight is 8.6 lb. Treat the size and runtime figures as Dyson claims; a larger machine may not be the most convenient choice for every user.
What do the independent comparisons say?
RTINGS compares the Shark Stratos Cordless IZ862H with the Dyson V15 Detect and highlights advantages on both sides, including the Shark’s flexible wand and odor-neutralizer cartridge. These are guide scores for those exact model names, not a general brand ranking. The excerpt does not show the full scoring method or confirm comparable bundle configurations, so the difference should not be treated as proof that the Shark is better for your home.
What should you check before buying?
