What is the Shark PowerDetect AZ3900?
The AZ3900 is Shark’s corded upright vacuum for the Australian market. It is not a cordless stick vacuum. In practical terms, the intent is to reduce manual switching as you move between floors and dirtier areas. Ideal Home reviewer Lauren Bradbury reported noticing automatic adjustment on the UK AZ3900UKT when moving between hard flooring, rugs and dirtier patches. That is a hands-on observation from one review, not a controlled test or a promise that the Australian AZ3900 will behave identically in every home.

How well does it handle floors, edges and stairs?
Ideal Home’s hands-on review of the UK AZ3900UKT praised edge cleaning and found the powered Lift-Away useful on stairs and beneath furniture. The reviewer also described the upright as seeming to propel itself once it was moving, despite feeling heavy to carry. These are qualitative observations from one reviewer’s home, rather than a standardized comparison with other vacuums.

Is it a good choice for pet hair?
Shark positions the UK AZ3900UKT as a pet vacuum and lists Anti Hair Wrap Plus and Anti-Odour Technology on that market’s product page. The Australian AZ3900 listing includes a Pet Power Brush. These features make pet-hair cleaning a clear intended use, but the available hands-on evidence does not establish a controlled pet-hair pickup score or prove performance on every carpet type.
If pet hair is the main reason you are buying, check that the exact local package includes the tool you need and confirm replacement-part compatibility by model number. Do not assume UK cartridges or filters fit the Australian SKU.

Carrying and storage
At 7.068 kg on Shark Australia’s listing, the AZ3900 is a substantial upright rather than a lightweight stick vacuum. The UK variant is listed at 7.6 kg, and Ideal Home’s reviewer specifically found it heavy to carry. Consider stairs, storage space and whether you will regularly lift it into a car or between floors.
Cord management and reach
The Australian model’s listed 9 m cord gives more reach than a short-corded appliance, but it still requires plugging in and routing the cable around furniture. Ideal Home’s reviewer found the UK model’s cord initially tangled and needing management; its 8 m length was sufficient to avoid unplugging between rooms in that reviewer’s home. Room layout and outlet placement will determine whether that experience transfers to your home.

Who should buy the Shark PowerDetect AZ3900?
