A DEV Community article says a ZoomEye search on 3 October 2026 found that many matching assets for the fingerprint query app="Microsoft SharePoint". Separately, Canada’s Centre for Cyber Security says CVE-2026-65660 is a code-injection flaw that could let an authenticated attacker execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable SharePoint Server. A fingerprint match does not establish that a server is vulnerable or exploitable.
What the 163,266 figure counts
The figure comes from a DEV Community report describing a ZoomEye international search performed on 3 October 2026. The query was app="Microsoft SharePoint" with sub_type=all, which included devices and websites. The article reports 163,266 as the total match count, not the number of records retrieved. That is an internet fingerprint-search snapshot, not a census of vulnerable systems. A result indicates that ZoomEye matched an asset to the SharePoint fingerprint under that query; it does not confirm the product version, patch state, vulnerable functionality, or successful exploitation. The report itself cautions that a match does not confirm an affected build or exploitability.
What CVE-2026-65660 means
The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security classifies CVE-2026-65660 as improper control of code generation (CWE-94), commonly described as code injection. Its alert says an authenticated attacker could execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable SharePoint Server. The Centre reported awareness of active exploitation in its alert dated 24 September 2026. “Authenticated” does not establish the minimum role
The official alert text available here supports the statement that authentication is required, but does not identify the precise account role or permission level. The headline’s wording that the flaw “needs only a user account” should therefore not be read as proof that any ordinary account is sufficient. Confirm the minimum required privileges in Microsoft’s full advisory before making that conclusion. The available alert text also does not establish the affected-version and fixed-build matrix, so this article does not list versions or invent patch numbers.
How to assess a possible exposure
Do not use the 163,266 figure as a risk score. Assess an individual environment by establishing what is actually deployed and reachable, then checking for evidence of compromise:
Rank #2
- Verify the installation: determine whether the match corresponds to a real SharePoint Server instance rather than relying on a fingerprint label alone.
- Check build and patch state: compare the server’s version with Microsoft’s advisory and remediation guidance. The reported search count does not provide a validated count of affected builds.
- Review reachability: establish whether the server is exposed to the internet and whether Central Administration or other management interfaces are accessible.
- Establish access requirements: use Microsoft’s full advisory to confirm the account privileges needed to exploit this specific CVE; do not infer them from the word “authenticated.”
- Look for compromise: a fingerprint match is not evidence that an attacker succeeded. Conduct an assessment of relevant systems and credentials.
What administrators should do
Use the official guidance from Microsoft and the relevant national cybersecurity authorities for version-specific remediation. The sources available here do not provide a verified fixed-build matrix for CVE-2026-65660, so they are not a substitute for checking Microsoft’s full advisory before choosing an update.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Update affected SharePoint servers promptly. CERT-EU recommends immediately updating affected servers; confirm the applicable update and build with Microsoft’s advisory. CERT-EU security advisories
- Reduce internet and management-interface exposure. Canada’s Cyber Centre recommends restricting or eliminating direct internet exposure where possible and limiting access to SharePoint Central Administration and other management interfaces. Canadian Centre for Cyber Security alert AL26-023
- Rotate potentially exposed credentials. CERT-EU recommends rotating credentials for assets that may have been exposed to the internet. Prioritize credentials associated with systems under investigation and follow your organization’s incident-response procedures.
- Assess for compromise. CERT-EU recommends a compromise assessment. Treat this as a separate task from patching: an update addresses the vulnerable software but does not by itself determine whether a system was previously accessed.
Keep this CVE separate from other SharePoint vulnerabilities
CERT-EU’s July advisory discusses several other SharePoint vulnerabilities, including CVE-2026-50522. Those issues are distinct from CVE-2026-65660; their details or remediation should not be attributed to this code-injection flaw. CERT-EU security advisories
