Shadow of the Road, Owlcat Games’ samurai-themed CRPG, is now scheduled to launch on PC on March 10, 2027. That replaces the previously reported date of November 12, 2026. Owlcat says the additional development time will go toward resolving remaining issues, polishing the game, refining tactical combat and improving party progression.
When does Shadow of the Road come out on PC?
Gematsu reported the revised date on October 9, 2026: Shadow of the Road is set to release on March 10, 2027. Windows Central had previously reported November 12, 2026, as the PC release date. Gematsu’s October 9 report attributes the change to Owlcat Games.

The game is published by Owlcat Games and developed by Another Angle Games. It is a story-driven, turn-based RPG described as a CRPG. Windows Central reported PC availability through Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG.

Owlcat’s explanation, reproduced by Gematsu, is that the extra time will let the developers “address remaining issues and give the whole experience the polish it deserves.” The publisher also pointed to work on tactical encounters, combat balance and party progression.

Tactical encounters and combat balance
The team says it wants positioning, initiative and ability choices to matter in every battle. Its stated aim is to make encounters reward planning and give players meaningful tactical decisions.
Party progression
Owlcat says the developers are refining progression to make developing the party more engaging, with more incentive to experiment with skills and adapt tactics to different challenges. These are the publisher’s stated development priorities; they do not establish that the delay guarantees any particular level of polish or balance at launch.

Is Shadow of the Road coming to Xbox?
An Xbox release has not been confirmed in the coverage cited here. Windows Central reported on August 27, 2026, that there was no word of an Xbox release at that time. That is a dated status report, not evidence that the game will never come to Xbox. The platforms currently identified are PC storefronts: Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG. The game is set in an alternate-history Japan in 1868, where steampunk technology meets a samurai-era setting. Its party includes ex-samurai and retainers of the Shogun. Reported features include turn-based tactical combat, dialogue choices that affect the story and relationships, and yōkai transformations. Those elements give context to Owlcat’s stated focus on tactical encounters and party development.
