Shackmaps is a free map dedicated to Nasdara, with a manually maintained pin system and a Suggest a Pin workflow for corrections. Neither service has a published independent accuracy benchmark, so calling one universally more accurate would go beyond the available evidence.
Quick verdict
The better map depends on what you need at the moment you open it. For a coordinated group, iZurvive is the stronger practical choice because shared markers are built into its documented feature set. A squad can mark a planned rendezvous, a stash, a tent or a suspected player position and see the same information without creating accounts.

For a player learning Nasdara or checking one location at a time, Shackmaps is attractive because it concentrates on this map and presents itself as an in-game navigation reference. Shackmaps is completely free, searchable and continually expanded with buildings, gear, events, threats and other information. Its pins are added manually, and readers can use Suggest a Pin to report a missing or incorrect location.
Recommended Free Tools
iZurvive is the more configurable tool on paper. Its Nasdara terrain page includes a topographic view, coordinate readout, city-name controls, loot-icon controls and a server-log upload tool. The same page warns that the server-log feature is still in development. That qualification matters if you play on a customized server rather than a standard map.

Neither map automatically guarantees your live position. iZurvive’s FAQ answers the question directly with “No” and recommends finding a road, reading a city sign and searching that name. You should therefore treat either map as an orientation aid, not as a GPS device.
What Shackmaps provides for Nasdara
A map focused on one terrain
The Shackmaps Nasdara page describes itself as an in-game map for navigation needs. That narrow focus can be useful when you do not want to switch between several terrains or sort through a broad database. The map is intended to help you identify places, plan movement and inspect points of interest on Nasdara.
Free access and continuing additions
In a launch report published by Shacknews on October 15, 2026, Sam Chandler called the map “completely free.” The report says it can be searched and is a “living, breathing creation” receiving buildings, gear, events, threats and other information over time. Those descriptions indicate an actively expanding reference rather than a frozen launch map.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Manual pins and a correction path
Shacknews says Shackmaps updates pins manually. Manual placement can support careful location work, but it also means that a newly discovered item or a changed location may not appear immediately. The page provides a Suggest a Pin button so users can submit corrections or additions. That is a defined feedback loop, not an assertion that every pin is already complete.
What iZurvive provides for Nasdara
Terrain, coordinates and display controls
iZurvive’s Nasdara terrain page offers a topographic map and a coordinate readout. It also lets you configure city-name display and loot-icon display. These controls address two common needs: identifying your surroundings from terrain and reducing visual clutter when you want to focus on roads, landmarks or elevation.
Loot and server-log tools
The service presents loot information and includes a server-log upload tool. The page explicitly warns, “Attention: This feature is still in development.” That warning should shape your expectations. A server-log workflow may be useful for matching information to your play session, but it should not be treated as a finished, universal synchronization system.

Group markers without accounts
iZurvive’s FAQ states: “iZurvive provides you with DayZ & ARMA maps and loot, lets you place tactical markers (player positions, tents, meeting points,..) on it and automatically shares those markers with the friends in your group – without the need for accounts, a registration or other services!” For a squad, this is the clearest differentiator in the comparison. You can use markers as a shared operational layer instead of sending every coordinate through voice or text chat.
No automatic player location
The same FAQ says iZurvive cannot automatically show where the player is. Its suggested method is practical: follow a road to a city sign, read the name and search for that city on the map. Once you have identified a settlement, use roads, terrain and coordinates to refine your position.
Side-by-side comparison

Which map is better for solo orientation?
When Shackmaps may feel faster
A solo player who already knows the goal—find a building, check a marked threat or search for a settlement—may benefit from Shackmaps’ focused presentation. Its search function and Nasdara-only scope reduce the number of choices on screen. The manually added pins are intended to describe buildings, gear, events and threats, so the map can act as a checklist while you travel.
The limitation is timing. Because pins are added manually, a change or omission may remain until someone submits it and the maintainers process it. If you find a discrepancy, use Suggest a Pin rather than assuming that the map is authoritative.
When iZurvive may be clearer
iZurvive gives a solo player more explicit orientation controls: topographic terrain, coordinates, city names and optional loot icons. A topographic layer helps when the visible settlement is unfamiliar but the surrounding ridges, valleys or roads are distinctive. Coordinates provide a way to communicate an exact grid reference once you have found yourself.
Those controls can also add complexity. If the screen is crowded, turn off loot icons or city labels temporarily, then enable them again when you need a particular category. The map still requires a manual identification step; it will not detect your character automatically.

A practical solo routine
- Open the map before leaving a safe location and decide whether you need a broad route, a named town or a specific loot point.
- In the game, follow a road or reach a clearly marked landmark. Look for a city sign where possible.
- Search the city name in the map you selected. On iZurvive, use the coordinate readout and topographic detail to narrow the match.
- Compare at least two features—such as a road junction and nearby terrain—before committing to a long route.
- Record the route or destination in a personal note if you expect to return. Do not assume either service will remember your live position for you.
Which map is better for squad coordination?
iZurvive’s shared-marker advantage
Squad play is the clearest case for iZurvive. Its documented group feature lets friends see shared tactical markers without accounts or registration. Mark a meeting point before a run, add a tent or stash location, and place a player-position marker when someone becomes separated. The shared map gives everyone one reference instead of requiring each player to copy a coordinate manually.
Markers are most useful when they carry a consistent meaning. For example, your group can agree that one symbol means a confirmed stash, another means a suspected threat and a third means a safe rally point. The source material does not define a required symbol scheme, so the important point is to agree on your own convention before relying on it.
What Shackmaps can and cannot be assumed to do
Shackmaps supports manual pins and a Suggest a Pin process, which is valuable for improving the public map. However, the available description does not document automatic sharing of private squad markers. Do not assume that a pin you add for your team will synchronize to friends in the same way as iZurvive’s group markers. Use your normal voice or text channel for private coordination unless the interface you are using explicitly provides another sharing control.

- Use short, unambiguous marker names such as “north tent,” “water stop” or “rally 2.”
- Remove temporary meeting markers after the group moves so an old location is not mistaken for a current order.
- Separate confirmed information from reports. A marker for a sighted player should not be treated as a permanent map fact.
- Share the same map view and terrain version. A custom server may not match the standard placement shown by a public map.
Which map is more accurate?
There is no independent published accuracy benchmark comparing Shackmaps with iZurvive. No percentage, error rate or controlled test establishes that one service has more correct pins. The most defensible comparison is about maintenance models, not a winner on accuracy.
Shackmaps says its pins are placed manually and invites corrections through Suggest a Pin. Shacknews quoted Chandler saying, “We do this manually, so you can expect a high level of detail and precision when it comes to pin locations.” That is a description of the intended curation process, not a measured comparison against iZurvive.
iZurvive exposes more controls and a server-log upload feature, but the page labels server logs as still in development. A feature under development may behave differently across servers or sessions. If a location matters tactically, verify it in your own game and report discrepancies through the relevant service rather than treating either map as infallible.

Server compatibility and custom data
Why server fit matters
Public maps describe a reference world, while DayZ servers can use custom settings or data. Loot tables, events and placements may not match the default assumptions. A map can therefore be correct for one server and misleading for another without either service being defective.
Using iZurvive’s server-log option carefully
iZurvive offers a server-log upload tool, which is the only explicitly documented mechanism in this comparison for bringing server-specific information into the map workflow. Because the page warns that the feature is still in development, treat the result as an aid rather than proof. Check whether the log came from the same server, map version and play period as your current session.
Reading Shackmaps on a changing server
Shackmaps’ manually maintained pins can still help with fixed geography—roads, buildings and landmarks—but the launch coverage describes additions arriving over time. For dynamic events, threats or gear, compare the map with what your server actually shows. Use Suggest a Pin when a persistent discrepancy is confirmed.
Price, access and prerequisites
Both services are presented as free browser-based tools in the available material. Shacknews specifically calls Shackmaps completely free. The iZurvive FAQ says group marker sharing does not require accounts, registration or other services. The material does not establish a paid tier, subscription requirement or client installation for either Nasdara map.
You still need the relevant DayZ content to play Nasdara. iZurvive identifies Nasdara as included in the DayZ Badlands DLC. Map access and game ownership are separate questions: a free web reference does not grant access to the DLC or to a server running that terrain.

Decision guide: pick the map that matches your session
| Your situation | Best starting point | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You are coordinating three or more players | iZurvive | Shared tactical markers are explicitly documented and work without accounts. |
| You are learning Nasdara’s named places | Either; start with Shackmaps for a focused view | Shackmaps is dedicated to Nasdara and searchable; iZurvive adds terrain and coordinates. |
| You need elevation and grid references | iZurvive | Its Nasdara page provides a topographic map and coordinate readout. |
| You want to inspect loot icons selectively | iZurvive | Loot-icon display is configurable. |
| You found a missing building or pin | Shackmaps for submission | Suggest a Pin provides a documented correction route. |
| You play a server with unusual data | Test iZurvive’s server-log workflow, then verify in game | The tool exists but is explicitly still in development. |
| You want automatic live location | Neither | iZurvive explicitly says it cannot auto-locate the player, and no such feature is established for Shackmaps. |
How to use each map effectively
Shackmaps workflow
- Open the Nasdara map and search for the settlement, landmark or point of interest you need.
- Use the result to plan a route around recognizable roads and buildings rather than relying on a single pin.
- Check whether the pin represents a fixed location or a changing event, gear or threat.
- When the map conflicts with your in-game observation, verify the location a second time before submitting feedback.
- Use Suggest a Pin to report a missing or incorrect entry, describing what you observed and where it appears on the map.
iZurvive workflow
- Open the Nasdara terrain view and enable only the labels or loot icons relevant to your immediate task.
- Find a road sign or another named landmark in game, then search that city name.
- Use the topographic view and coordinate readout to confirm that the surrounding terrain matches.
- Create a tactical marker for your destination, tent, stash, meeting point or player position.
- Share the marker through your group and remove or rename it when its meaning changes.
- If you use the server-log upload tool, remember that the page marks it as still in development and verify important results in the game world.
Common mistakes and fixes
Assuming the map knows your position
Fix this by identifying a city sign, searching the name and matching nearby roads or terrain. Do not plan a long cross-country run from an unverified guess.
Best Value
Confusing a public pin with current server state
Fixed geography and live events are different kinds of information. Confirm dynamic loot, threats and events on your server, especially after an update or on a customized server.
Leaving stale squad markers in place
A marker that was correct an hour ago can become misleading. Give markers a clear status and delete temporary ones after the operation.
Treating a development feature as guaranteed
iZurvive’s server-log option is explicitly still in development. If an upload does not produce the expected result, fall back to the standard map, coordinates and in-game verification rather than assuming the server data was imported perfectly.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Reporting a correction without enough context
When using Shackmaps’ Suggest a Pin workflow, include the name of the location, the nearby road or landmark and whether the issue is a missing pin, a misplaced pin or a changed event. Clear context gives maintainers a usable correction instead of an ambiguous complaint.
Final recommendation
For most organized squads, use iZurvive as the shared planning board: its group markers, coordinates and configurable layers directly support coordination. For a solo player who wants a dedicated Nasdara reference and a straightforward way to suggest corrections, Shackmaps is a strong choice. Many players can reasonably keep both available—iZurvive for shared markers and terrain work, Shackmaps for a focused Nasdara lookup and manual pin feedback.
That recommendation is about workflow, not a claim that one database is objectively more accurate. Verify critical information in your own server, remember that neither map automatically locates your character, and treat iZurvive’s server-log feature as experimental until its own warning is removed.
