Build heroes for the activity you want to clear, not for a single universal tier list. For a newer account, Pocket Gamer recommends Knox as a broadly useful tank, Rachel and Ace as early support options, and Teo for PvE area damage. For later decisions, use mode-specific rankings: GameWith separates PvP from several PvE activities, and a hero rated highly in one mode is not automatically the best choice for another.
How to read a Seven Knights Re:Birth tier list
A tier list is a shortcut for comparing heroes, not a complete build plan. Before spending resources, check what activity the ranking covers, how established an account it assumes, and when the guide was updated. A hero can be valuable for arena teams but less useful for farming waves, or excel in a particular PvE activity without being the right answer for a different bottleneck.

The current guides do not use one shared scale or a controlled performance measure. GameWith describes SS characters as meta-core in PvP or key for high-difficulty PvE; S characters as strong across multiple activities but not necessarily optimal for the hardest stages; A characters as situational alternatives; and B characters as generally not recommended for top-tier compositions. Those labels describe GameWith’s assessment, not a universal ranking that can be compared numerically with another publisher’s tiers. Pocket Gamer’s tier list also breaks ratings out by activity, including PvE, PvP, Raid, Castle, and Advent. Its categories should be read on that guide’s own terms. Neither guide supplies a shared numerical benchmark, sourced win rates, usage rates, or damage figures that would make a cross-site ranking quantitative.

In practice, a tier label answers a narrower question than “Is this hero good?” It reflects the guide’s opinion of that character in its stated category. A high PvP rating is useful information if arena performance is your goal; it does not establish that the same character clears ordinary PvE waves efficiently. Likewise, a rating for a named challenge should not be treated as proof of universal value. Keep the activity label beside the hero name when comparing lists, rather than copying a bare tier letter into a build plan.
Which heroes are worth building first?
For early progression, prioritize covering useful team roles over chasing a supposedly perfect roster. Pocket Gamer’s recommendations offer a practical starting point: Knox for frontline tanking, Rachel and Ace as support builds, and Teo as a PvE area-damage option. These are that guide’s judgments for early roster decisions, not guarantees that the same heroes are optimal for every account or endgame activity.

This starting group is useful because it suggests roles to cover: a frontline, support, and a way to deal with groups of PvE enemies. It does not establish a fixed four- or five-hero team, an upgrade order for every resource, or a universal endgame lineup. The sensible next choice depends on what is currently stopping your account from progressing.
For example, if a stage is ending with your frontline defeated, Knox’s tank role is more directly relevant than a generic damage ranking. If the team survives but struggles to clear groups, Teo’s area-damage recommendation is the more pertinent starting clue. If your roster needs support coverage, Pocket Gamer names Rachel and Ace as common early builds. These are ways to connect the guide’s suggestions to an actual need, not claims that one of the four must always be your next investment.

Choose by the mode you need to clear
Look up the activity that matches your actual goal rather than relying on a general “best heroes” order. GameWith’s guide separates PvP from Advent Expedition, Nightmare Farming, Castle Rush, Raid, Infinite Tower, and Dungeon. Pocket Gamer includes its own PvE, PvP, Raid, Castle, and Advent ratings. The lists do not establish that similarly named categories use identical criteria, so check the labels and explanations on the page you are consulting.
- PvP: Use the PvP-specific assessment when deciding on an arena-oriented investment. GameWith defines its SS tier in part by whether a character is core to the current PvP meta; that is not a claim that every SS hero is also a leading farming choice.
- Wave farming: If ordinary PvE waves are the problem, Teo is Pocket Gamer’s named area-damage option. Compare the PvE or Nightmare Farming rankings for the precise activity before treating that early-game recommendation as a late-game farming verdict.
- Boss or raid encounters: Consult the relevant Raid or Castle Rush ranking rather than assuming that a wave-clear damage dealer or PvP specialist performs the same job against those encounters.
- Progression challenges: For Advent Expedition, Infinite Tower, or Dungeon, use the guide’s activity-specific ratings. A high-difficulty challenge can reward a different roster choice from routine farming.
When comparing two guides, compare like with like: the named activity, the hero’s role, your account’s investment level, and the date or version shown on the page. Pocket Gamer’s headings include “Castle,” while GameWith names “Castle Rush”; the available descriptions do not prove those labels use an identical test. Similarly, broad PvE and a particular PvE activity may not mean the same thing. Avoid converting one publisher’s SS into another publisher’s top tier or assuming that two categories are directly interchangeable.
A useful way to make the choice is to name the bottleneck first: are you losing because your frontline falls, because enemies take too long to clear, or because you need a roster suited to a particular mode? Match the investment to that role and activity, then check whether the guide’s rating is intended for the account and challenge you actually have.
How much should you invest?
Separate a hero’s eventual ceiling from the value of building that hero now. Pocket Gamer’s mention of Teo’s critical-rate benefit at maximum rank is explicitly tied to that rank; it does not show that a new account receives the same benefit immediately. Likewise, GameWith’s distinction between characters useful across multiple activities and those needed for the hardest stages is a reminder that late-game optimization and broad early utility are different questions.

- Identify the next activity or stage. Use its own rating category where available, not a general tier label.
- Identify the missing job. Decide whether the immediate need is a tank, support, or damage role. The early recommendations above are a starting reference, not a substitute for diagnosing the team.
- Check the required investment. If a recommendation depends on maximum rank or a high-difficulty meta, judge whether that investment is realistic and useful for your current account.
- Check recency and version. Read the guide’s update date and any stated game version; newer characters or balance changes can alter a ranking.
- Build for the next useful milestone. Avoid committing resources solely because a character has a high label in a mode you are not playing.
This method does not require calculating a universal power score. The reviewed guides publish editorial tier assessments, not a common test dataset or numerical performance measure. Treat their recommendations as informed sorting aids and use the role, mode, and investment context to decide whether they fit your roster.
There is no supported universal resource-cost comparison that establishes exactly how much it takes to build one of these heroes or which has the lowest cost. The useful investment check is therefore contextual: does the cited benefit apply at your current rank, is the hero aimed at the activity you want to tackle, and will the role address a real gap? Avoid reading a placement alone as evidence that a hero is cheap, fast, or automatically efficient to develop.
Is rerolling necessary?
Pocket Gamer says rerolling is not an absolute requirement and that free heroes plus early summons can be enough to progress through PvE. That makes rerolling a preference rather than a prerequisite for starting the campaign. If you want to reroll for a particular character, weigh the time it takes against the value of continuing with the heroes already available; the guide’s reassurance applies to PvE progress, not a promise that every roster will be equally efficient in every endgame mode.

How current are these rankings?
As checked on October 13, 2026, GameWith’s guide was marked updated that day and its latest-character section included Demon Slayer collaboration characters Tanjiro Kamado and Zenitsu Agatsuma. The same guide provides separate assessments for PvP and multiple PvE activities. That date makes it a recent reference point, but collaboration and newly added characters are particularly patch-sensitive, so confirm the live page before making a long-term investment based on their placement.
Pocket Gamer’s guide was marked updated September 2, 2026, identifies game version 1.27.04, and says Dongyoung was added. Its date and version give readers useful context, but they differ from GameWith’s update date. Do not combine the two guides’ tier labels as if they came from one ranking system, and do not assume a September assessment reflects every change that may have followed by October.
The update date is especially relevant for newly introduced characters. GameWith’s latest-character section includes Tanjiro Kamado and Zenitsu Agatsuma, while Pocket Gamer’s September page notes the addition of Dongyoung. Those details help establish what each page had considered when it was updated; they do not by themselves show that these characters are top picks in every mode. For collaboration units or recent additions, check the specific mode placement and the page’s current date rather than relying on a general impression that “new” means “must build.”

- Am I choosing for PvP, routine PvE, Raid, Castle Rush, Advent Expedition, Nightmare Farming, Infinite Tower, or Dungeon?
- Does the hero fill the role my team is missing, or am I following a tier label without a specific need?
- Is the recommendation aimed at early progression, broad usefulness, or high-difficulty optimization?
- Does the claimed benefit depend on a particular rank or investment level?
- What update date and game version does the guide show, and has the roster changed since then?
For a new account, Knox, Rachel, Ace, and Teo are the clearest named starting options in the reviewed advice, each for a different role. Beyond that starting point, make the mode-specific list—not a single all-purpose tier order—the deciding reference.
