Thursday’s session had ended with the Sensex down 417.49 points at 76,152.86 and the Nifty down 41 points at 23,873.45. Friday’s gains therefore represented a partial recovery rather than a complete reversal of the preceding decline.

Why did the Sensex jump?
The immediate catalyst was stronger risk sentiment across global markets. Asian equities advanced after US markets gained more than 1% overnight, encouraging buying in Indian shares following the four-day slide.
- Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose about 2% in the cited morning snapshot.
- South Korea’s KOSPI gained 1.3%.
- Japan’s Nikkei advanced 1.11%.
- Shanghai’s SSE Composite increased 0.35%.
The overseas moves provided a supportive backdrop for domestic large-cap stocks. They do not, by themselves, establish how the Indian market will finish the session; the figures describe the early-trade conditions reported by PTI.

Which stocks gained and fell?
Major gainers
The early-trade list named gains in Bajaj Finserv, Bharat Electronics, IndiGo, Trent, Reliance Industries, Infosys, Titan, Adani Ports, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finance, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank and State Bank of India. Strength across financials, technology, industrials, consumer names and index-heavy companies helped lift the benchmark.

Laggards
Axis Bank, Eternal, ICICI Bank and Asian Paints were among the stocks trading lower in the same snapshot. A rising index can therefore coexist with declines in individual constituents when gains in heavier-weighted shares outweigh weakness elsewhere.
What did FIIs and DIIs do?
Exchange data cited in the PTI reports showed a split between foreign and domestic institutions in the previous session:
| Investor group | Thursday activity |
|---|---|
| Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) | Sold equities worth ₹2,345.87 crore |
| Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) | Bought equities worth ₹4,977.46 crore |
Those flows are reported for Thursday and help explain the market’s recent cross-current: foreign selling continued while domestic institutions provided substantial buying support. They are not a forecast of Friday’s final flow numbers.

How did crude oil trade?
Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, rose 0.48% to USD 95.98 per barrel in the cited update. Higher oil prices matter to India because the country imports most of its crude; sustained increases can pressure import costs, inflation expectations and the rupee. One early-session Brent quotation does not indicate the full-day trend.

- Whether the rebound holds: the market must retain its early gains after four down sessions for the move to represent more than a short-term bounce.
- Index breadth: monitor whether more constituents join the advance or whether gains remain concentrated in a few large companies.
- Global cues: further moves in Asian and US equities can continue to influence risk appetite.
- Oil and institutional flows: Brent prices, FII selling and DII buying remain important cross-market signals.
- Verified levels: use exchange or original-publisher records for any later update because early-trade prices change throughout the session.
Important level check
The retrieved September 4 reports consistently place the Sensex at 76,684.74 and the Nifty at 23,951.70 in early trade. They do not support the 73,154 Sensex level or the “above 22,750” Nifty wording in the supplied canonical headline. Those figures should be independently reconciled before publication or trading decisions.
