The Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 is a credible AirPods Pro alternative if you value Sennheiser’s sound, compatibility with iPhone and Android, and user-replaceable batteries. It is not established as the best alternative for everyone: early reviewers praise its sound, but ANC is not class-leading and fit may be uncomfortable for people with small ears.
So, are the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 better than AirPods Pro? That depends on fit, the features you use with your phone, and whether repairable batteries matter more to you than ecosystem-specific conveniences. Here is what the product offers and what the available reviews do—and do not—show.

What the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 offers
Sennheiser announced the earbuds on August 20, 2026. The company lists Bluetooth 6.0, adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC), transparency mode, Dolby Atmos-optimized head tracking, multipoint, and an eight-band equalizer in its Smart Control Plus app. Its support page describes a 7 mm TrueResponse dynamic driver, anti-wind behavior, and AI voice isolation. These are manufacturer-described features, not independent performance guarantees. Sennheiser’s announcement and US product page provide the product details.
The official US package listing includes the earbuds, charging case, USB-C cable, four ear-tip sizes (XS, S, M, L), a battery replacement tool, and documentation. The support article characterizes the sound as a refinement of the previous generation, with a less forward midrange, cleaner bass, and more upper-treble air; that is Sennheiser’s description rather than an independent measurement. How the sound, ANC, and calls hold up in reviews
Sound is the clearest strength reviewers identify
Tom’s Guide praised the sound in its hands-on review of September 3, 2026. What Hi-Fi?, reviewing the earbuds on September 24, described them as spacious, detailed, and precise. Those are editorial listening impressions, not results from a controlled comparison with AirPods Pro or other earbuds. If you like Sennheiser’s reported presentation, they are a reason to consider this model; your own preferences and fit still matter. Tom’s Guide review; What Hi-Fi? review.
ANC is useful, but not a class-leading claim
Tom’s Guide found ANC good for everyday city and office use, while noting it was not class-leading. The earbuds also have transparency mode and anti-wind behavior according to Sennheiser, but the available review coverage does not establish that either feature outperforms rivals in all situations. If maximum noise suppression is your deciding factor, do not treat the feature list alone as proof of a win.

Are they better than AirPods Pro?
There is no evidence here for a universal winner. The practical choice is between the characteristics that matter to you: the True Wireless 5 offers Sennheiser’s sound approach, iPhone and Android compatibility, and user-replaceable batteries; AirPods Pro may be a more natural fit if you prioritize Apple-specific integration or prefer a stem-style design. The reviewed sources discuss premium peers, but do not provide a controlled head-to-head test establishing that the Sennheisers are the best AirPods Pro alternative.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Phone and codec features: Sennheiser says the earbuds work with both iPhone and Android and lists aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless. Which codec is used depends on the source device, negotiation, and content; aptX Lossless is not guaranteed at full quality on every phone. Bluetooth 6.0 by itself does not guarantee a perceptible sound improvement.
- Sound: Consider the reviewers’ favorable descriptions if you want a detailed, spacious presentation, while remembering that sound preference is personal.
- Noise control and calls: Weigh the reviewer’s assessment of ANC against your own priorities for commuting, office use, wind, and calls; the available coverage does not establish an overall advantage over AirPods Pro.
- Battery serviceability: The replaceable earbud and case batteries are a notable practical distinction if you want to keep earbuds longer or replace worn batteries rather than the whole product.
- Fit: In-ear shape and tip seal can outweigh features on paper. The included sizes offer a starting point, not a guarantee of comfort.
- Price and availability: Compare current local checkout prices, stock, and return terms rather than relying on review-era prices.
How long does the battery last?
Sennheiser rates playback at up to 12 hours per earbud and up to 40 hours total with the charging case. Tom’s Guide also lists 12 hours per charge and 40 hours with the case, specifying ANC off. Treat the figures as rated or review-listed maximums, not a guarantee for every listening session; actual runtime can vary with settings and use. Tom’s Guide’s review lists its battery figures and ANC condition.

- Note : If the size of the earbud tips does not match the size of your ear canals or the headset is not worn properly in your ears, you may not obtain the correct sound qualities or call performance. Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ear.Specific uses for product : Travel,Sports and Exercise
- Superior sound powered by the TrueResponse transducer and aptX Adaptive for the highest resolution audio
- Customized audio experience via built-in equalizer and pre-sets, including Bass Boost, and Sound Personalization for bespoke audio
- Multipoint enables connection to 2 devices
- Compact, ergonomic design with Silicone ear adapters (XS, S, M, L) and fins (S, M, L) to ensure optimal comfort and a secure fit
Can you replace the batteries?
Yes. Sennheiser says users can replace batteries in both earbuds and the charging case. Its support article identifies BA 501 as the two earbud batteries and BA 502 as the case battery, and says they are available in the EU and selected additional countries. The company does not establish that either part is in stock in every country or provide a universal replacement price, so check local availability before buying on the assumption that a replacement will be easy to obtain. See Sennheiser’s support information.
Do the earbuds fit small ears?
Possibly, but the available review flags a reason to try them before committing. Tom’s Guide’s reviewer reported discomfort from the body or nozzle with small ears, while colleagues with average-size ears reported comfort. That is one reviewer’s fit experience, not a universal rule. The official package includes XS, S, M, and L tips, but tip size cannot change the shape of the earbud body. Check the seller’s return policy if fit is uncertain. Tom’s Guide review; official package details.

What do they cost?
Published prices differ slightly by source and market. Tom’s Guide listed $299 in the US and £249 in the UK in its September 3, 2026 review. What Hi-Fi? listed standard prices of £250, $300, and AU$480 on September 24, 2026; the Sennheiser US product experience page listed $299.95 when accessed October 7, 2026. These dated figures are not live checkout prices. Check the current price in your region, along with stock and return terms, before deciding.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAre they durable and water-resistant?
Sennheiser rates the earbuds IP54 and describes them as splash resistant. The company says they are not intended to be submerged, worn in the shower, or rinsed under running water. IP54 should not be read as waterproofing for those uses. Sennheiser Hearing Support gives the usage qualification.

Verdict: who should consider the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5?
Consider them if you want Sennheiser’s reviewed sound presentation, use either iPhone or Android, and value the option of replacing batteries in the earbuds and case. Be more cautious if you have small ears or put top-tier ANC above sound and serviceability. The independent reviews provide positive but subjective listening impressions; they do not establish a universal AirPods Pro victory. Fit, phone-dependent features, and your local price should decide the purchase.
