Sennheiser HDB 630 vs Bose QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen): How They Compare

By Freedom251 Team · · 11 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the Sennheiser HDB 630 if you want reference-oriented tuning, a genuinely adjustable parametric EQ, crossfeed, an included Bluetooth USB-C dongle and up to 60 hours of claimed ANC-on battery life. Choose the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) if you prefer Bose’s Quiet, Aware, Immersion and Cinema modes, CustomTune, multipoint and lossless USB-C audio.

Those are documented feature differences, not proof that one sounds better, cancels more noise or feels more comfortable. No independent, same-method ANC, sound or comfort test establishes a universal winner. Prices and availability also change, so verify them for your country before ordering.

HDB 630 and QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen) at a glance

The Bose model in this comparison is specifically the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen), not the first-generation QC Ultra headphones and not the QC Ultra earbuds. Bose announced the second generation on 10 September 2025 and said it would become available on 2 October 2025.

What each headphone is trying to do

HDB 630: control over the sound

Sennheiser presents the HDB 630 as a specification-led over-ear ANC headphone. Its product description calls the tuning neutral or reference-oriented, with controlled bass, lifelike mids and controlled treble. Those are Sennheiser’s descriptions rather than independent frequency-response measurements.

The practical differentiators are the parametric equalizer, crossfeed and the supplied BTD 700 Bluetooth USB-C dongle. A parametric EQ lets you adjust individual frequency bands by center frequency, gain and bandwidth rather than applying only broad preset sliders. Crossfeed blends a small amount of the left channel into the right and vice versa, which can make hard-panned recordings feel less extreme over headphones. Whether either treatment improves your listening depends on your music, hearing and preferences.

QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen): modes and convenience

Bose’s second-generation model is built around selectable listening experiences. Quiet is the noise-cancelling mode, Aware is the transparency mode and ActiveSense is associated with Aware to react to louder environmental sounds. Immersion adds Bose’s spatial processing, while Cinema is intended to make video sound more lifelike with clearer dialogue. CustomTune adapts the sound experience to the listener and the fit of the earcups.

Bose also emphasizes everyday convenience: multipoint for two source devices, a newer Bluetooth 5.4 radio, lossless USB-C audio and charging while the headphones are being used. These features make the Bose a natural fit for people who move between a phone and a computer or who want a simple mode-based experience instead of manually designing an EQ.

Sound tuning and personalization

How the HDB 630’s approach differs

The HDB 630 gives you more granular documented control. Its parametric EQ can be used to correct a tonal preference, compensate for a particular recording or create separate profiles for music, spoken content and games. The included crossfeed option is especially relevant to older stereo recordings, live albums or games with strongly separated channels.

  • BREAKTHROUGH SPATIALIZED AUDIO: Super immersive sound spatializes everything, taking the music out of your head and placing it in front of you to push the boundaries of listening.
  • NOISE CANCELLING HEADPHONES: Enjoy Bose’s best noise cancellation for headphones with Quiet Mode, turn on Aware Mode to hear more of your surroundings, or combine noise cancellation and Bose Immersive Audio with Immersion Mode.
  • NEW CINEMA MODE: Bring video content to life like never before with Cinema Mode; spatialize and balance background sound and sound effects for movie-like immersion wherever you go.
  • USB VOICE: Use the built-in mic to enjoy high-quality two-way communication for phone calls and video conferencing while connected via USB-C.
  • ENHANCED LONG-LASTING BATTERY: Up to 30 hours of play time (23 with Immersive Audio)* keeps the music playing through even the longest listening sessions. Charge your headphones with the included USB-C cord and listen to music at the same time.

Its neutral/reference label should not be treated as a guarantee of laboratory neutrality. Sennheiser’s wording communicates the intended voicing; it does not replace an independently measured response. A listener who wants extra bass, a softer treble balance or a warmer midrange may still prefer a different EQ target.

How Bose’s approach differs

Bose does not position the second-generation QC Ultra around a user-programmable parametric EQ in the cited specifications. Instead, it combines CustomTune with named modes. Quiet and Aware address environmental sound, Immersion addresses spatial presentation, and Cinema targets video playback. Bose says Cinema is designed for clearer dialogue and a more lifelike presentation; those phrases are promotional descriptions, not a controlled dialogue-intelligibility result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Immersive Audio changes the battery claim substantially: Bose lists up to 30 hours with ANC on and Immersive Audio off, but up to 23 hours with Immersive Audio on. That is useful if you like the effect, but it is a meaningful operating trade-off.

Which sound option is better for different listeners?

  • Choose the HDB 630’s control if you enjoy adjusting frequency bands, want crossfeed, or prefer to start from a reference-oriented presentation.
  • Choose Bose’s modes if you want one-touch choices for quiet listening, awareness, spatial playback and movies, with CustomTune handling personalization.
  • Do not treat either feature set as a universal sound-quality victory. A preference for neutral tuning, stronger bass, spatial effects or an unprocessed signal is personal, and the cited material contains no controlled listening comparison.

Wireless, wired and high-resolution connections

HDB 630 connection options

The HDB 630 supports Bluetooth 5.2 and the aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC codecs. Codec availability still depends on the transmitting phone, computer or other source. A source that does not support a given codec will negotiate another compatible option.

Sennheiser specifies up to 24-bit/96-kHz resolution over USB-C, the analog input or the included BTD 700 Bluetooth USB-C dongle. The dongle is already in the box, so the package is intended to provide a dedicated wireless connection for computers, game systems or other USB-C sources without requiring a separate purchase. The package also includes a 1.2 m USB-C-to-C cable, a detachable 1.2 m 3.5 mm audio cable, an in-flight adapter and a carrying case.

“Up to 24-bit/96-kHz” describes the supported path, not a guarantee that every streaming service, operating system or Bluetooth transmission will deliver that resolution. The analog cable is a useful fallback when a device has a headphone output, while USB-C is the relevant path for digital audio from a compatible host.

QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen) connection options

Bose specifies Bluetooth Core 5.4, SBC and AAC, plus aptX Adaptive when paired with Snapdragon Sound-certified devices. Bluetooth codec support and Bose’s separately advertised lossless USB-C audio are different functions: aptX Adaptive is a wireless Bluetooth path, while lossless USB-C is a wired digital-audio path.

The second-generation Bose model can maintain connections with two source devices at once. That matters when, for example, a laptop is playing audio and a phone needs to deliver a call. Bose also says the headphones can charge while in use, which is useful for long wired sessions or when a battery warning appears during work.

Connection choice in practice

The HDB 630 has the more extensive documented codec list and supplies its own USB-C dongle. Bose counters with multipoint and a lossless USB-C mode. If your priority is a specific Bluetooth codec, check support on both ends before buying; if your priority is switching between two active devices, Bose is the model with the explicitly documented multipoint feature.

  • Want everything, just no compromise? High-definition, neutral sound, ultra-long life battery, active noise reduction that works perfectly - and all of this, of course, wireless? Then you'll love the closed HDB 630. With the included BTD 700 Bluetooth USB C adapter, you can enjoy high-quality audioblanket sound wherever you are.
Use case HDB 630 QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen)
ANC enabled Up to 60 hours Up to 30 hours with Immersive Audio off
ANC and spatial processing Not stated Up to 23 hours with Immersive Audio on
ANC disabled Not stated in the cited material Up to 45 hours
Fast charge claim Up to six hours of playback from a 10-minute charge Bose’s launch announcement says up to three hours from 15 minutes; the owner guide reports up to 2.5 hours under its stated test conditions

Why the numbers cannot be ranked as a lab result

Sennheiser’s 60-hour figure is attached to ANC-on use. Bose’s 30-hour figure is attached to ANC-on use with Immersive Audio off, while its 23-hour figure includes Immersive Audio. Bose’s owner guide specifies a test setup of 75 dB SPL, zeroed three-band EQ and Quiet mode for the cited battery test. Volume, codec, temperature, call use, USB-C audio and processing modes can all change actual runtime.

For a precise Bose quick-charge citation, use the owner-guide result with its conditions rather than presenting the launch announcement’s promotional three-hour figure as universal. The HDB 630’s six-hour-from-10-minutes statement is likewise an “up to” claim.

Battery decision

On the published ANC-on figures alone, the HDB 630 has twice the stated runtime of the Bose with Immersive Audio off. That does not prove twice the real-world endurance because the companies use different test methods. Bose’s advantage is a clearly documented 45-hour ANC-off mode and charging during use; Sennheiser’s advantage is the longer stated ANC-on figure and its six-hour quick-charge claim.

Noise cancellation, transparency and what is not proven

Documented systems

Sennheiser calls the HDB 630’s noise cancellation hybrid adaptive ANC and also lists a transparency mode. Bose describes ANC, Aware mode with ActiveSense and updated adaptive noise-cancelling processing for the second-generation model.

Those labels explain available functions, not performance rankings. Neither manufacturer specification establishes how many decibels either headphone reduces on aircraft rumble, voices, keyboard noise or wind. The cited material contains no same-method laboratory measurement or independent listening test for this pair.

How to make an honest buying decision

  • Prioritize the fit you can obtain, because an imperfect seal can reduce passive isolation and change ANC performance.
  • Check return terms in your market so you can evaluate the seal, pressure and transparency behavior safely at home. Bose’s official store search material describes a 30-day return policy, but terms can vary by market and order.
  • Do not buy either model solely because a product page uses “adaptive,” “hybrid” or “updated” ANC. Those terms describe the system, not a verified winner.

Comfort, fit and construction

The HDB 630 is listed at 311 g without its cable and uses synthetic leatherette earpads. Bose’s cited specifications describe protein-leather ear cushions and a plastic/aluminum construction, but do not provide a directly comparable second-generation weight in the material used here.

Because the weights are not documented on the same basis, it would be misleading to call one lighter. Headband pressure, clamp, earcup depth, glasses, hair and individual head shape can matter more than a small weight difference. If you are sensitive to pressure or wear headphones for many hours, fit and return options deserve as much attention as codec support.

Price, warranty and value

Sennheiser’s US listing shows $499.95 and a two-year manufacturer warranty. Bose’s official comparison lists the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) at a $449 US list price. Bose store pages may show temporary promotions, so a sale price should not be treated as the permanent cost.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For US buyers using those figures, the Bose starts $50 below the HDB 630 list price. The HDB 630’s package includes the BTD 700 dongle, USB-C and analog cables, an in-flight adapter and a case; account for that included equipment when comparing total value. Verify shipping, tax, warranty coverage and return rules for your country, since these terms are not necessarily identical worldwide.

Which one should you buy?

If your priority is… Better documented fit Why
Long stated battery life with ANC enabled HDB 630 Sennheiser claims up to 60 hours with ANC on; Bose claims up to 30 hours with ANC on and Immersive Audio off
Parametric EQ and crossfeed HDB 630 Both are explicitly listed by Sennheiser
Included USB-C wireless dongle HDB 630 BTD 700 is included with the headphones
Named movie and spatial modes QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen) Immersion and Cinema are documented alongside Quiet and Aware
Two-device multipoint QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen) Bose specifies simultaneous connection to two source devices
Lossless wired USB-C audio QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen) Bose explicitly advertises lossless USB-C audio and charging during use
Lower US list price in the cited figures QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen) $449 versus $499.95, before promotions, tax and shipping
Verified ANC or comfort winner Neither No independent, same-method evidence establishes one

Buy the HDB 630 when…

  • You want to shape the response with a parametric EQ rather than rely mainly on presets.
  • Crossfeed is useful for your music, games or archival stereo recordings.
  • You need an included BTD 700 USB-C dongle and a broad set of wired and Bluetooth options.
  • The published 60-hour ANC-on claim is more valuable to you than Bose’s mode ecosystem.

Buy the QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen) when…

  • You want Quiet, Aware, Immersion and Cinema modes with CustomTune.
  • You regularly switch between two connected devices.
  • Lossless USB-C audio and charging while listening are important.
  • You prefer Bose’s mode-based approach and the lower cited US list price.

Wait or test first when…

  • Your decision depends mainly on which headphone has stronger ANC, because that has not been established by comparable evidence here.
  • Comfort is critical and you cannot confirm the fit or return terms.
  • You are comparing a first-generation QC Ultra listing with the second-generation model. Confirm the generation before checking specifications or price.

Setup checklist for getting the advertised features

HDB 630

  1. For a computer or compatible USB-C source, connect the included BTD 700 dongle and select it as the playback device. This uses the supplied dongle rather than requiring a separate Bluetooth adapter.
  2. Use the included USB-C cable for a digital wired connection when the host supports USB audio, or use the detachable 3.5 mm cable with an analog headphone output.
  3. Start with Sennheiser’s neutral/reference-oriented tuning, then adjust the parametric EQ for your own target. Change one band at a time so you can identify what helped.
  4. Try crossfeed on hard-panned recordings or games, and disable it when you prefer strict channel separation.
  5. Use transparency mode when you need environmental awareness; use ANC when isolation is the priority.

QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen)

  1. Run CustomTune according to Bose’s setup flow so the personalization is based on your ears and the current fit.
  2. Use Quiet for maximum documented noise-control functionality, Aware with ActiveSense when you need outside sound, and Immersion or Cinema when you specifically want spatial or video-oriented processing.
  3. Pair the two source devices you use most often if multipoint switching is important, and confirm that both remain connected before relying on automatic switching.
  4. Use a USB-C connection when you want the advertised lossless wired path or need to charge while listening.
  5. Monitor battery expectations: Immersive Audio reduces Bose’s stated ANC-on runtime from 30 to 23 hours.

What the specifications can—and cannot—tell you

The official information gives a clear product-choice framework: HDB 630 emphasizes adjustment, wired flexibility, a dongle and long claimed ANC-on endurance; QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen) emphasizes modes, CustomTune, multipoint, lossless USB-C and Bose’s adaptive ANC system.

It does not provide a controlled answer to “which sounds better,” “which cancels more noise” or “which is more comfortable.” A valid answer to those questions would require the same music, source, fit, volume, noise conditions and measurement method for both headphones. Until that evidence is available, treat the feature differences and battery figures as documented manufacturer claims, and base the final choice on the controls and connections you will actually use.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
