Watch collectors already call a white-dial chronograph with black sub-dials a “panda.” Seiko takes the nickname literally and gives the watch a face. Whether that makes them the “cutest” of the year is opinion, since no ranking exists. The design details below are the case for it. On Seiko’s official UK store, each watch is listed at £510 with a stated release date of November 1, 2026.

Why they look so cute
Seiko’s collection 2 page opens with a question: “Do the world’s panda-style watch dials really resemble pandas?” The watches are its answer. Seiko describes these features:

- Fur-like dial: an embossed radial texture meant to evoke fur.
- Drooping-eye sub-dials: the two sub-dials become a panda’s eyes.
- A nose and mouth at six o’clock.
- Bamboo-leaf-shaped hands.
- Ear-inspired pushers: the pushers are recessed, inspired by ears.
- Caseback relief: a panda is embossed on the back.
- The “SASAMETER”: Seiko’s name for the tachymeter, a play on sasa, Japanese for bamboo leaves.
The UK product pages add two details. The crown is minimized and moved to twelve o’clock to strengthen the animal-like case shape. The presentation boxes also differ: the white model has a carefree panda motif, and the pink one has a soft, downy-fur-inspired pink interior.

What “panda” means in watchmaking
Seiko puts it this way: “In watchmaking, chronograph dials featuring a white background with contrasting black sub-dials are widely known by the nickname ‘panda.'” The nickname is not new. Seiko’s chronograph history page says a much-loved late-1960s design earned it because of its two black sub-dials on a white dial. It also names the 1969 release of Caliber 6139 as a chronograph milestone. Today’s watches are modern quartz pieces with a playful twist, not reissues of that era.
White or pink?
The practical specs are identical, so the choice is about taste and scarcity.

- Choose the white HHK001P1 if you want the classic panda colors and the more recognizable chronograph look. It has the larger run, at 3,000 pieces.
- Choose the pink HHK002P1 if the baby-panda idea appeals. It is the scarcer of the two, at 2,000 pieces.
Size matters more than color. At 43 mm across and 14.6 mm thick, both are sizeable on the wrist. The 20 mm lugs fit standard straps, but the leather strap is what you get in the box. Splash resistance means they are not for swimming, and the Hardlex crystal is Seiko’s hardened mineral glass, a step below sapphire.
What is and isn’t established
The limited quantities are Seiko’s stated production figures, not market statistics. “Cutest releases of the year” is a judgment, not a verified ranking, and no independent testing or customer feedback exists yet. The sources also don’t confirm stock at third-party retailers. Prices and availability can change, so confirm them on Seiko’s own store pages before ordering.
