Seiko’s Power Design Project has turned its panda-themed chronograph concept into two limited-edition quartz watches: the white-dial HHK001P1, limited to 3,000 pieces worldwide, and the pink-dial HHK002P1, limited to 2,000. Seiko’s official pages describe the concept’s exhibition history but do not verify that it was shown in 2024, so that date should not be treated as confirmed.
Which Seiko Panda chronographs are being released?
The watches are the Seiko Power Design Project HHK001P1 in white and HHK002P1 in pink. Seiko describes them as limited editions developed from the Power Design Project’s panda-dial idea. The UK boutique calls the concept “A Watch Exclusively for Panda Lovers.”

How does the design turn a chronograph into a panda?
“Panda” commonly describes a chronograph dial with a light background and contrasting dark sub-dials. Seiko’s Power Design Project asked, “Do the world’s panda-style watch dials really resemble pandas?” Its answer makes the animal explicit through the watch’s details rather than relying only on the familiar color contrast.

- The two chronograph pushers suggest panda ears; the UK listing notes rounded pushers and a minimized crown positioned at 12 o’clock.
- An embossed, radial dial pattern is intended to evoke fur.
- Recessed, drooping sub-dials form the eyes, while nose and mouth details appear at six o’clock.
- The hands are shaped like bamboo leaves. Seiko calls the tachymeter scale the “SASAMETER,” using sasa, Japanese for bamboo leaves.
- The case back depicts a panda from behind and intentionally shows a white tail.
Seiko’s corporate collection page says the outer tachymeter can indicate speed from the time taken to travel one kilometer. Its playful example of a panda’s theoretical top speed is part of the design explanation, not a claim about an actual animal or a practical use for the watch. The presentation boxes also vary: rolling-panda imagery for the black-and-white model and a soft-pink, newborn-panda inspiration for the pink version. What specifications do the two models share?
The UK product listings give both watches the same core specifications. They do not establish a functional performance difference between the white and pink editions.

“Splash resistant” is Seiko’s published wording; it should not be read as a swimming or diving rating. Specifications are given on the official UK pages for the white and pink models.

Not by the official pages reviewed. Seiko’s European boutique says the concept attracted attention at the “Incredibly Specialized Watches Exhibition” and has now become limited editions, but the pages do not date that exhibition or establish an exact reference for the earlier concept. The 2024 date in the original headline therefore cannot be independently confirmed from these sources.

How is this different from Seiko’s Prospex Speedtimer Panda?
Seiko also uses panda-style dial language for its Prospex Speedtimer mechanical chronographs, but those watches are a separate line. In a November 21, 2023 announcement, Seiko said the SRQ047 and limited SRQ049 drew on a celebrated 1972 Speedtimer design. The SRQ049 commemorated the Seiko brand’s 100th anniversary and was limited to 1,000 pieces; it had a blue-grey dial with silver-white sub-dials. Both models used the automatic 8R48 chronograph movement with a column wheel, vertical clutch and 45-hour power reserve. None of those details should be attributed to the quartz HHK001P1 or HHK002P1.
