The Myon combines a 722 Wh battery, Shimano Cues electronic shifting, hydraulic disc brakes, lighting with turn indicators, fenders and app-based security in one package. That breadth is why one reviewer named it a top choice for tech-forward commuting. It falls short of perfect on three counts that matter day to day: its 80-mile range figure is a best-case maximum, the bike is heavy, and several connected features carry recurring costs. Each is covered below.
The 80-mile figure is a maximum, not a commute promise
Segway’s product page lists a range of up to 80 miles. The company says that figure comes from controlled tests on flat roads in good weather. Terrain, weather, rider weight and the bike’s condition all change what you actually get.

Tom’s Guide’s full review reports that its reviewer did not reach 80 miles in a somewhat hilly area, though the reviewer went a few weeks between charges during their own riding. These are two separate observations of one bike. The sources do not state the assist level used on either ride, so neither should be read as a standard rating.
For planning, treat the headline number as a ceiling. Log how far you ride between charges on your actual route, then compare that with your round-trip distance and leave margin for hills, headwinds and cold weather.

The IPX ratings describe performance under specific test conditions. They do not mean the whole bike can be submerged or that repeated rain, washing or pressure-cleaning is harmless.
Weight and fit: the real trade-off
At 72.75 lb for the M/L net weight, the Myon is heavy for a bike you may have to carry. Before buying, check the following:

- Stairs and storage: Can you lift it up a flight of stairs or onto a garage hook on your own?
- Vehicle loading: A car rack or hitch needs to handle the bike’s weight plus anything you carry on it.
- Limits: The 300 lb total payload and the 264 lb maximum rider weight are separate published figures. Check Segway’s page for how they combine.
- Rear rack: The rack carries up to 25 kg of goods, centered with no overhang. It is not rated for passengers.
Electronic shifting and a busy cockpit
Shimano Cues nine-speed shifting
The drivetrain pairs a chain with Shimano Cues nine-speed electronic shifting. Tom’s Guide’s reviewer described the automatic shifting as fun to use, and its CES first-ride report described shifting as smooth. Both are impressions from one reviewer’s riding, not durability testing.

WIRED’s review, headlined Segway Myon Electric Bike Review: Too Smart?, describes 11 separate buttons, toggles, switches and a throttle. More functions within reach means fewer menus, but it also means more to learn before your first commute. Tom’s Guide’s CES first ride found the controls within thumb’s reach and the ride comfortable. That was a short test ride, and it did not include a long-term assessment.

WIRED also reports UL 2849 certification for the e-bike electrical system. If certification matters for your purchase, verify it with the certifying body or with Segway rather than relying on a summary.
Connected security: what is included and what costs extra
Segway lists these connected features:
- AirLock
- Apple Find My
- GPS
- App connectivity
- Cloud binding
- Software updates
Segway says some app features require a subscription. Its listing does not itemize which features are free and which carry recurring costs, and the sources reviewed do not establish that split. Before you buy, confirm in the app which functions work without a plan and what the subscription costs. Tom’s Guide’s CES report describes remote locking and tracking, with a subscription needed for some functions. Its full review found Apple Find My useful.

Segway says the class setting can be reconfigured through the app. Confirm which class is legal where you ride before you change it.
Price and where to buy
When captured, Segway’s U.S. store listed the Myon at $1,799.99 against a displayed MSRP of $1,999.99, marked In Stock. Tom’s Guide’s January CES report gave the price as $1,999. These are different snapshots rather than a price history, so confirm the current figure on Segway’s U.S. store before buying. Third-party retailer listings and their stock were not verified for this article.

The CES report described some accessories as planned. Confirm which commuting accessories, including a compatible rear rack, are actually available before you budget for them.
Who it suits and who should look elsewhere
- Good fit: Riders who want lights, turn indicators, fenders, electronic shifting and app tracking in one purchase and can accept the weight.
- Good fit: Commuters whose routes are flat to moderate and whose round-trip distance stays well below the headline range.
- Look elsewhere: Anyone who must carry the bike regularly or wants a simple cockpit with few controls.
- Look elsewhere: Riders on hilly routes who depend on the 80-mile figure.
- Look elsewhere: Buyers who do not want recurring app costs.
The sources reviewed do not include a controlled head-to-head test against rival commuter e-bikes, so this article does not rank the Myon against them. Its near-perfect reputation rests on the feature set reviewers described, not on a comparison.
