For most Edge screenshots, start with the built-in Screenshot feature (formerly called Web Capture): press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose a full-page capture or select an area, then mark it up, copy it, or save it. If you need automated screenshots from an application or an API rather than a manual capture in Edge, ScreenshotNeo is a separate option for that job.
What Edge’s built-in Screenshot can do
Microsoft Edge includes a browser feature named Screenshot. Older references and some users may call it Web Capture; Microsoft’s policy documentation says Web Capture was renamed Screenshot. It is intended for capturing web pages and PDF content, with options to select a region or capture a full page. After capture, you can use inking tools, copy the image, or save it.
Microsoft also describes Screenshot as keeping moving page content—such as video, GIFs, or carousels—active during capture. That may help you capture a chosen moment, but it is a feature description, not a guarantee that every animation or site will behave identically.
How to take a screenshot in Edge
- Open the page or PDF. Navigate to the content you want to keep. For a long page, allow the page to load before starting so images and other visible content have a chance to appear.
- Open Screenshot. Press Ctrl+Shift+S, or open the browser’s context menu or Settings and more menu and select Screenshot. Menu wording and availability can vary with Edge version and configuration.
- Choose the capture scope. Select the full-page option when you need content beyond the current viewport. Choose an area when only a particular section matters; drag or otherwise define the region using the on-screen selection control.
- Review and annotate. Use the available pen or touch inking controls to mark the capture if needed. Microsoft’s tutorial describes copying or saving after markup. Avoid adding annotations if you need an unaltered record.
- Copy or save the result. Copy the screenshot to paste it into another application, or save it as an image file. Microsoft says screenshots can be pasted into applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
The exact labels and button arrangement can change. Microsoft’s January 2, 2024 tutorial uses particular menu wording for area capture; treat that wording as a guide rather than assuming it remains identical in every current build.

Full-page capture
Use full-page capture when the reader needs the whole article, receipt, or page rather than only what is currently on screen. Check the finished image from top to bottom: pages with lazy-loaded images or content that appears only after scrolling can be more complicated than a static page, and a capture may not include material that never loaded.
Selected-area capture
Use an area capture to isolate a chart, form, error message, or passage without including unrelated browser content. This is usually the cleanest choice when you are documenting one detail or preparing an image to paste into a document.

Visible-screen capture
If you only need what is currently visible, an area selection can usually be drawn around that portion. The reviewed Microsoft feature descriptions emphasize full-page and selected-area capture rather than documenting a separate, consistently named “visible screen” mode; check the controls in your own Edge build.
Mark up, copy, and protect the screenshot
Edge’s built-in feature supports markup with pen or touch, then copying or saving the result. Use markup for arrows, circles, or brief notes that help explain a screenshot. For a sensitive image, remember that drawing over a name or account detail is not the same as reliably removing that information: cropping it out is safer than leaving the text underneath an annotation.

Microsoft’s feature and policy descriptions mention inking but do not require a particular stylus, pen, or other accessory. A mouse, trackpad, or touch input may be sufficient depending on the device and the controls presented.
Where Screenshot is available—and what may vary
Microsoft’s Edge policy documentation lists Screenshot support on Windows and macOS from Edge version 87, and lists Android and iOS as unsupported for this policy feature. That statement describes the policy feature; it should not be read as a complete account of every mobile screenshot workaround or operating-system capture function.

Microsoft’s consumer feature page cautions that availability and functionality may vary by device, market, and browser version. On a managed work or school browser, an administrator’s configuration may also affect what controls appear. If the shortcut does nothing or the menu item is missing, first check that Edge is current and then ask whether the browser is managed or the feature is disabled by policy.
Is a third-party Edge extension worth considering?
Try Edge’s built-in Screenshot first if your needs are full-page or selected-region capture, basic inking, clipboard copy, and saving. Consider an extension only if its specific workflow fills a gap, and check both compatibility and where the image goes when you use its sharing feature.

One listing in the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store is QwikCapture. Its listing describes area, current-visible-screen, and full-page capture; text and shape annotation; freehand marks; mosaic redaction; clipboard copy; PNG saving; and optional sharing by uploading an image. It says capture, editing, copying, and saving happen locally by default, with upload only when the user chooses Share image. The listing displayed a browser-compatibility warning at retrieval, so do not assume it can currently be installed or works with your particular Edge version.

Edge Screenshot is the right starting point for a person manually capturing a page in the browser. If you need a screenshot from code, a repeatable capture workflow, or an image for a site or application, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not an Edge toolbar extension. Its API makes a capture from a URL in one GET request; it does not replace Edge’s interactive area selection or markup tools.
For example, this cURL request saves a WebP capture of a page:

Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your key and change the target URL as needed. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Its stated reasons to use it include removing cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; not billing bot checks, blank pages, or failed loads; and an MCP server that lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card required.
Troubleshooting Edge screenshots
The shortcut does nothing
- Try opening Screenshot from the context menu or Settings and more menu instead. A shortcut may be intercepted by another app, keyboard utility, or managed-device configuration.
- Check your Edge version and whether the browser is controlled by an organization. Microsoft’s policy documentation lists support on Windows and macOS beginning with version 87, but consumer availability and functionality can vary.
The full-page capture is incomplete
- Wait for the page to finish loading before capturing. If images appear only after scrolling, scroll through the page first, allow them to load, then try again.
- Dynamic or animated content can change while a capture is being made. Microsoft says moving content can remain active during capture, so choose a suitable moment and inspect the result rather than assuming a moving element will be frozen consistently.
You cannot find an expected control
- Look for Screenshot rather than Web Capture; the name changed.
- Check both the context menu and Settings and more. Exact labels may differ from older tutorials.
- If you are on Android or iOS, Microsoft’s policy documentation lists this policy feature as unsupported there; use the platform’s available capture options instead of expecting the desktop controls.
An extension will not install or behave as expected
- Check the current Add-ons listing and its compatibility notice before relying on it. QwikCapture’s listing showed a browser compatibility warning at retrieval.
- Review permissions and sharing behavior. For QwikCapture, the listing says upload happens when the user chooses Share image, while capture, editing, copying, and saving are local by default; verify the current listing before use.
