They do not normally create a scrolling image of a webpage. For content below the viewport, use a browser’s full-page command: Edge has Ctrl+Shift+S → Capture full page, Firefox offers Save full page, and Chrome uses DevTools’ Capture a full size screenshot. Safari’s current official full-page image shortcut is not established here, so do not rely on a guessed key combination.
First decide: screen capture or full webpage?
A screen capture records pixels currently visible on your monitor. Depending on the tool, it may include the entire screen, one window, or a rectangle. A full-webpage capture renders content that continues below the viewport, often without requiring you to scroll manually.

Operating-system shortcuts are best for a quick visual record. Browser tools are the right choice when the page extends beyond the visible screen.
Windows screenshot hotkeys
Windows+Shift+S: choose an area, window, or screen
- Press Windows+Shift+S.
- Choose rectangular, window, full-screen, or freeform capture from the overlay.
- Select the area or window. The result opens in the Snipping Tool interface.
- Use the save control to write an image file.
This captures what Windows can display at that moment. It is not documented as a scrolling webpage capture, so content below the browser viewport is excluded.

Print Screen: copy the visible display
Press Print Screen (PrtSc) to copy a static image of the entire screen to the clipboard. Paste it into an image editor, document, chat, or email. Because the image represents the screen, browser pages are limited to the visible portion.
When Windows shortcuts are insufficient
Use Edge’s full-page command, Firefox’s Save full page feature, or Chrome DevTools when you need the complete document. A very tall page may produce a large image; check the output before sharing or embedding it.
Mac screenshot hotkeys
Shift-Command-3: entire screen
Press Shift-Command-3 to capture the whole display. This is a screen image, not automatically a complete webpage.
Shift-Command-4: selected portion
Press Shift-Command-4, drag across the required area, and release. The selection is captured as an image.

Press Shift-Command-5 to open macOS Screenshot controls. Choose an entire screen, a window, or a selected portion, then capture. Apple notes that some applications may prevent screenshots of their windows.

None of these macOS shortcuts should be described as a scrolling webpage shortcut. For a full page, use the browser’s own capture workflow or an API.
Browser-specific full-page capture
Microsoft Edge: the shortest documented route
- Open the webpage in Edge.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose Capture full page.
- Review and save the resulting image.
Edge also provides a selected-area capture. The full-page option includes content beyond the visible screen without manual scrolling.
Firefox: Save full page
- Invoke Firefox’s screenshot feature from the page context or browser controls.
- Choose Save full page.
- Save the generated image.
Mozilla documents Command+S on macOS and Ctrl+S on Windows/Linux as save shortcuts after the screenshot workflow has been invoked. Those keys are save actions, not proven direct commands to begin a full-page capture.
Chrome: DevTools full-size screenshot
- Open DevTools with Command+Option+I on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux.
- Open the DevTools Command Menu with Command+Shift+P on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows/Linux.
- Use Device Mode’s More options menu.
- Choose Capture a full size screenshot.
- Save the generated image.
Important: Command+Shift+P and Ctrl+Shift+P open the DevTools Command Menu when DevTools has focus. They are not browser-level full-page screenshot hotkeys by themselves.
Safari: do not guess a shortcut
The documented macOS controls cover screen, window, and selected-area screenshots, but the current official material considered here does not establish a Safari keyboard shortcut that saves a full webpage as an image. If you need a complete page, use a verified Safari feature in your installed version, export the page as a PDF when that meets your goal, or use another browser’s documented full-page tool. Treat older third-party tutorials as potentially outdated.

Choosing the right workflow
Capture only what a user sees
- Use Windows+Shift+S for a region, window, or screen.
- Use Print Screen when the whole visible display belongs in the clipboard.
- Use Shift-Command-3, -4, or -5 for macOS screen, window, and area captures.
Capture the complete webpage
- Edge: Ctrl+Shift+S, then Capture full page.
- Firefox: screenshot tool, then Save full page.
- Chrome: DevTools → Device Mode → More options → Capture a full size screenshot.
Choose an output that is easy to reuse
Clipboard captures are convenient for a quick paste. Saved PNG or other image files are better for tickets, documentation, and archives. A full-page image can be extremely tall; for printing or page-numbered documents, a PDF workflow may be more practical.
Common problems and fixes
The result stops at the fold
You used an operating-system shortcut, which captures the visible screen. Repeat the task with Edge’s Capture full page, Firefox’s Save full page, or Chrome’s DevTools command.

The shortcut does nothing
Focus may be in another application, a keyboard layout may differ, or a managed computer may disable a key. Click the browser or desktop first, then use the documented menu path instead of relying on a key combination.
Chrome captures the wrong size
Make sure DevTools is open and Device Mode is active. The full-size command is in Device Mode’s More options menu; the Command Menu alone is not the capture operation.
A window cannot be captured on Mac
Some applications do not allow screenshots of their windows. Capture a selected area or use the application’s export function when available.

Lazy-loaded content is missing
A page may insert images or sections only after scrolling or interaction. Try the browser’s full-page tool after the page settles, or use an automated capture service that can wait for a selector, delay, or network idle and load lazy images.
The page contains consent banners, chat, or popups
Dismiss them before a manual capture. For repeatable captures, automation is more reliable when it accepts consent and hides known overlays before rendering.

No. Print Screen copies the entire visible screen to the clipboard; it does not include page content below the viewport.
