1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSet the viewport before navigation, trigger any scroll-based loading the page needs, wait for a page-specific readiness condition, and then capture with fullPage: false. networkidle2 can be a useful navigation condition, but it does not guarantee that every lazy-loaded element is ready.
Capture a viewport screenshot after lazy content is ready
Install Puppeteer in your project with npm install puppeteer, then save this as an ES module (for example, shot.mjs). Replace the URL and readiness marker with values that match the page you are capturing.

import puppeteer from 'puppeteer';
const browser = await puppeteer.launch();
try {
const page = await browser.newPage();
// Set the viewport before navigation.
await page.setViewport({ width: 1280, height: 800, deviceScaleFactor: 1 });
await page.goto('https://example.com', { waitUntil: 'networkidle2' });
// Replace this with a real marker on the target page.
await page.waitForSelector('[data-page-ready="true"]', { visible: true });
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: false });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
The Puppeteer screenshot guide demonstrates navigation with waitUntil: 'networkidle2' followed by a screenshot. Treat that as an example, not a universal lazy-load guarantee. If the marker never appears, waitForSelector() times out; its documented default timeout is 30 seconds. See the method documentation.

Set the viewport before calling goto() so the page initially lays out at the dimensions you intend to capture. For example, width: 1280 and height: 800 define the CSS viewport; deviceScaleFactor: 1 keeps the device scale factor at one. The current Puppeteer API documentation identifies version 25.12.0; check your installed version before relying on version-specific behavior.

Puppeteer documents that “In the case of multiple pages in a single browser, each page can have its own viewport.” See Page.setViewport(). The same documentation notes that some sites do not expect viewport changes, and changing isMobile or hasTouch can reload a page; configure those options before navigation if you use them.
For only the visible viewport, set fullPage: false. Use fullPage: true when you want a full-page capture instead; the screenshot options documentation lists false as the default. See ScreenshotOptions and Page.screenshot().

Trigger and verify lazy-loaded content
Lazy loading is often tied to an element entering the viewport. A page may not request an image or append a content card until scrolling brings it near the visible area. If the content needed in the screenshot is not in the initial viewport, trigger the page’s actual loading behavior before waiting for it. Puppeteer’s page interactions guide covers page interaction APIs; it does not prescribe one universal lazy-load procedure.
- Identify what must be visible. Use a real selector, known text, or another condition tied to the content that belongs in the screenshot.
- Trigger the page’s behavior. Scroll the page or the relevant scrollable container if that is how the target loads its content. A scroll loop may be necessary for content far below the fold; stop when the required content appears or the page’s behavior indicates there is no more to load.
- Wait for evidence of readiness. Wait for the target element, image state, or other page-specific condition. Do not treat a delay or network-idle event alone as proof that all content has rendered.
- Capture the intended area. Use
fullPage: falsefor the fixed viewport, or choose full-page capture only when that is the desired output.
Wait for a visible selector
When a page exposes a reliable element that appears after loading, wait for it with page.waitForSelector(selector, { visible: true }). “Visible” helps distinguish a present but hidden node from one that can be seen, but it does not prove that unrelated lazy elements have also loaded.

Wait for a custom condition
Use page.waitForFunction() when readiness is better represented by a condition than by a single selector. For instance, you can check a known page marker or whether a particular image has completed loading. The condition must match the target page; an arbitrary selector or image count is not universally reliable.
await page.waitForFunction(() => {
const image = document.querySelector('#hero-image');
return image instanceof HTMLImageElement && image.complete && image.naturalWidth > 0;
});
This example only verifies the image with the ID hero-image. Adapt it to the content you need, and consult Page.waitForFunction() for the API details.

Handle content that appears only after scrolling
A viewport-only screenshot captures the current viewport, not all content elsewhere on the page. Scrolling to trigger a lazy-loaded element does not by itself make that element part of the final screenshot if it remains outside the viewport. If the desired image is lower down, scroll to the position you want captured, then wait for the relevant content before taking the screenshot. If you need multiple regions, capture them separately or choose full-page output rather than expecting one viewport screenshot to include off-screen content.
For a full-page capture that should include content loaded progressively, use a deliberate scroll-and-wait strategy before calling page.screenshot({ fullPage: true }). The appropriate number and spacing of scrolls depend on the site and its lazy-loading implementation; the cited Puppeteer documentation does not define a universal scroll recipe.

Troubleshooting
- The screenshot has placeholders or missing images: Network idle may have occurred before the page’s lazy-load trigger. Scroll the required region into view and wait for that image or its containing content to reach a meaningful ready state.
waitForSelector()times out: The selector may not exist, may be hidden, or may only be added after an interaction or scroll. Confirm it in the target page and trigger the behavior first; increase the timeout only if the page legitimately needs longer and the selector is correct.- The screenshot is full-page when you wanted a viewport: Pass
fullPage: falseexplicitly and verify that you have not changed the capture scope elsewhere. - The layout differs from the browser you expected: Check that viewport dimensions and device scale factor are set before navigation. Also consider whether the target responds to viewport, mobile, or touch settings; Puppeteer notes some viewport changes can cause a reload.
- The readiness function never resolves: Verify that its condition can become true on that page. For an image, check that the selector resolves to the expected element and account for pages that replace nodes or use a different loading signal.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does fullPage: false capture?
It limits the screenshot to the current viewport rather than extending the capture to the full page.
Does networkidle2 mean every lazy-loaded image is ready?
No. Lazy content can depend on scrolling or other page-specific triggers, so wait for the content state that matters to your capture.
