Sauce founder and managing partner Manu Chandra expects more niche consumer brands and more frequent midsize acquisitions over the next five years. Separately, startups that collect real-world data to train robots and other Physical AI systems are in early discussions about common worker and site standards. The proposed standards effort is not an enacted regulation or a formed industry body.
What Manu Chandra expects from consumer-brand exits
Chandra told The Economic Times that “Five years from now, we will see many more smaller niche brands getting developed and many more frequent midsize acquisitions happening.” This is his forecast, not a tally of announced deals. He points to strategic fit and complementary capabilities as reasons companies may pursue acquisitions, alongside opportunities to build brand scale and market share.

The report cites Sauce’s exit from Innovist as context. It estimates that Sauce received ₹500–550 crore when L’Oréal acquired the company, after Sauce invested ₹50–55 crore. Both figures are estimates attributed to the report, rather than independently confirmed transaction amounts.

Chandra’s stated scale expectations
Chandra said revenue of ₹100 crore no longer excites Sauce as an investment bar. That is his stated threshold for the firm, not a general benchmark for consumer companies. He also said leading consumer brands generating ₹1,500–2,000 crore in revenue could potentially support valuations of ₹10,000–12,000 crore. Those are his expectations, not market averages or guaranteed outcomes.

What the Physical AI standards proposal could cover
The Economic Times report describes early discussions among startups that collect data in real settings to train robots and other Physical AI systems. The work spans residential, commercial and industrial environments, including homes, farms, factories, warehouses, cloud kitchens and hotels. The report names Human Archive, Humyn Labs, Neo Cambrian, Modal Robotics and Aura ML as companies involved in data collection; it does not establish that all are members of a proposed body.

These are possible areas for shared standards, not published requirements. The proposal’s potential reach would include both how people are treated while collecting data and the terms on which organizations access operating environments.

The report describes an industry-led discussion, not a new Indian government rule. It does not establish that an association has been constituted or that a standard has been adopted. Accordingly, the proposed body should be understood as a possible route to common voluntary norms; the report does not establish a new regulatory regime for Physical AI data collection.

Why the two developments are being reported together
The consumer-brand outlook and the Physical AI standards discussion are separate developments presented in the same Economic Times report. Chandra’s comments concern investment and acquisitions in consumer businesses; the standards proposal concerns workers and access to real-world sites used to gather training data. The report does not suggest that one caused or is connected to the other.

The Economic Times attributes a projection to MarketsandMarkets that the global Physical AI market could grow from $1.5 billion in 2026 to $15.2 billion by 2032. These are forecast figures, not measured current market size. A larger projected market may help explain industry attention to data collection, but it does not establish that the proposed standards body will form or that its standards will be adopted.
