A reliable Satisfactory dedicated server is built around three controls: copy both save and blueprint data to separate dated storage, run the game as a supervised service, and change performance or network settings from observed workload rather than guessed player limits. The current documented internet rules are port 7777 over TCP and UDP plus port 8888 over TCP (Patch 1.1.0.0); verify them again after a major patch.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Satisfactory servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
What a dependable Satisfactory server setup includes
Protect the two directories that contain your world and blueprints, keep more than one dated backup generation, and test that at least one copy can be restored. Use the in-game Server Manager for supported save and server operations, but do not make it your only copy. Run the process under a service manager when possible so it starts at boot, restarts after a crash, and performs a validated SteamCMD update before launch. Choose hardware for strong single-core performance and enough total cores, then tune Network Quality while watching the busiest factory activity.

Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Data protection: back up the live
SaveGames/serverdirectory and its matchingblueprintsdirectory. - Recovery: keep dated generations on storage separate from the server’s boot disk and periodically restore one to a test instance.
- Operations: stop the server gracefully, make a dated pre-update copy, update during a maintenance window, and verify the expected session before reopening access.
- Connectivity: forward and firewall the documented ports for your patch level.
Back up saves and blueprints together
A save backup without blueprints can leave players unable to recreate shared designs, while a blueprint-only copy cannot recover the factory itself. Treat the two directories as one recovery set and copy them at the same time.
Find the live directories
The exact location depends on the operating system, installation method, and account that runs the server. A service account has a different home or profile from your interactive login, so search from the account used by the running process rather than assuming your own user directory.

NSSM and Windows service accounts can use a different profile path. |
The official dedicated-server documentation lists additional paths for NSSM and Windows service installations. If the expected folder is empty, inspect the service definition for its user and profile, confirm that the server has created at least one save, and then locate that account’s FactoryGame data tree.
Make a manual, dated backup
- Announce a short maintenance window and stop new building activity.
- Use Server Manager or the documented shutdown method to stop the server cleanly. Wait until the process exits so the final save finishes writing.
- Copy the complete
SaveGames/serverdirectory and the matchingblueprintsdirectory to a separate disk or backup target. - Put the pair in a dated folder such as
2026-10-14-pre-update. Keep the original directory structure inside that folder. - Record which server session and software version the copy represents. Do not overwrite your only previous generation.
- Restart the server and confirm that the expected session loads before players return.
Copying while the process is actively writing can capture an incomplete file set. If your backup tool supports snapshots, use a consistent snapshot; otherwise stop the server first.

Keep generations on separate storage
Use a rotation rather than a single mirror: retain several recent copies, plus a longer-term copy before major game or configuration changes. Store at least one generation on a device or location that is not mounted as the live server’s normal data disk. This protects against disk failure, accidental deletion, and a bad update that is copied over every current file.
Automated jobs are useful, but an automated job that always replaces one folder is not versioned backup. Give each run a timestamp, report failures, and alert when the destination is unavailable or the copied file count unexpectedly falls.

Verify that a backup can be restored
- Create a temporary test server isolated from the public port.
- Stop that test process and replace its save and blueprint directories with one dated backup generation.
- Start the test instance and load the named session through Server Manager.
- Confirm that the world opens, recent structures are present, and a representative blueprint can be placed.
- Delete the test instance or keep it offline; never let it compete with the production server for the same save files.
A successful copy operation proves only that bytes were copied. A test restore proves that the files are usable.
Use Server Manager, autosaves and recovery points correctly
Server Manager can upload local saves and manage saves from the supported interface. It is convenient for selecting or moving a session, but it should not be treated as an independent backup location: export copies to separate storage as part of your normal rotation.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Choose an autosave policy
Server settings expose an autosave interval, an option to save when a player disconnects, and an auto-load session name. Set the interval according to how much progress your group can afford to lose. A shorter interval reduces the rollback window but can add disk and save overhead, especially in a busy factory; there is no universal value established for every world.
- Enable save-on-disconnect if players commonly leave between scheduled saves.
- Set the auto-load session name to the production world so a reboot does not require manual selection.
- Make a manual, dated save copy before an update, mod or configuration change even when autosave is enabled.
- Tell players when a maintenance save is complete; do not rely on an autosave that may still be in progress.
Size hardware from observed workload, not a player-count promise
The dedicated-server documentation says Satisfactory uses multiple cores but strongly favors high single-core performance. That is a selection priority, not a guarantee that a particular processor, memory amount, factory size or player count will sustain a specific tick rate. No authoritative benchmark establishes a universal CPU, RAM or capacity minimum.

| Resource | Practical priority | What to measure |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | Prefer strong single-core performance while retaining multiple usable cores. | Server frame rate or simulation behavior during the busiest production and logistics activity. |
| Memory | Provide enough headroom for the server, operating system and any other services. | Peak memory use and whether the host starts swapping under a loaded save. |
| Storage | Use reliable local storage with room for saves, logs and multiple backup generations. | Save duration, available free space and backup-copy errors. |
| Network | Use a stable uplink and configure forwarding and firewall rules correctly. | Disconnects, latency and client load behavior while the factory is busy. |
Measure after adding the real world, not an empty test map. Record CPU utilization by core, memory pressure, save duration and player-facing symptoms during peak activity. Increase capacity or move the service when sustained load leaves no headroom; do not infer a safe player cap from a processor’s model name.
Tune Network Quality one step at a time
Network Quality can improve client load times and network performance, but the documentation warns that increasing it can reduce server framerate. Change one step, let the group play through the busiest factory area, and compare server behavior with the previous setting.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Record the current Network Quality value and a baseline observation of server framerate and client loading.
- Change only Network Quality; leave other variables unchanged.
- Test during peak conveyor, vehicle and production activity rather than in an empty area.
- Keep the change only if client benefits outweigh any server-framerate cost. Revert if simulation becomes less stable.
Run the server as a supervised service
A service manager handles boot startup, crash recovery and controlled stop behavior more reliably than an open terminal. It also gives you one place to define the account, working directory, logs and update command.
Linux systemd pattern
The documented Linux example runs SteamCMD with +app_update 1690800 validate before launching the server, starts after boot and restarts after failure. Adapt the user, installation path and executable name to your host; the values below illustrate the required behavior rather than a universal drop-in unit.

After creating the unit, reload systemd, enable it for boot, start it, and inspect its journal. Use the documented shutdown behavior for your server build; the essential requirement is that a stop allows the game to finish writing files instead of terminating it abruptly.
systemctl daemon-reloadreloads a changed unit definition.systemctl enable --now satisfactoryenables boot start and starts it immediately when the unit is namedsatisfactory.journalctl -u satisfactoryshows startup, update and crash-restart messages.
Run the update validation in a maintenance window as well as on automatic restart. A failed download or a changed executable should be visible in the service log before players connect.
Windows service considerations
NSSM or another Windows service wrapper can provide automatic startup and restart, but it may run under a service account whose %LocalAppData% differs from your administrator profile. Set the working directory explicitly, grant the account access to the installation and backup destinations, and locate saves from that account’s profile. Stop the service through the wrapper and wait for a clean exit before copying files or installing an update.
Safe update procedure
Updates are safest when treated as a transaction with a known rollback point.

- Copy both save and blueprint directories to a new, dated pre-update folder.
- Confirm that the backup destination contains the expected files and has sufficient free space.
- Run SteamCMD validation with app ID
1690800and the documented+app_update 1690800 validatearguments, or let the service’s update pre-start step do it. - Start the server and watch its log for a clean initialization.
- Use Server Manager to confirm that the expected session appears and loads. Check a familiar area and a representative blueprint.
- Invite players back only after the session and connectivity checks pass. If the world fails to load, stop the service and restore the pre-update pair rather than repeatedly writing to the damaged copy.
Keep the pre-update generation until the new build has been used successfully. Do not delete it as soon as the process starts; startup success does not prove that every save operation or blueprint is usable.

For Patch 1.1.0.0, the Official Satisfactory Wiki documents these forwarding requirements:
| Port | Protocol | Use |
|---|---|---|
7777 |
TCP and UDP | Dedicated-server game traffic. |
8888 |
TCP | Reliable messaging documented for the server. |
- Assign the server host a stable address on the local network.
- Forward TCP and UDP 7777 and TCP 8888 from the router to that host.
- Create matching inbound firewall rules on the operating system.
- Confirm that no other application is already listening on those ports.
- Test from outside the home network, because a local test can succeed even when router forwarding is wrong.
Port requirements are patch-sensitive. Re-check the current dedicated-server documentation after a major release instead of assuming these values remain unchanged.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
Managed hosting can remove some administration, but it does not eliminate the need to understand your save and blueprint data. Compare the service category against your own tolerance for maintenance rather than relying on an unverified provider claim.
| Decision area | Self-hosted server | Managed service |
|---|---|---|
| File and mod control | Direct access to files, service account and configuration. | Depends on the host’s panel and policy. |
| Updates | You choose the maintenance window and run validation. | May offer one-click or scheduled updates; timing is provider-dependent. |
| Backups | You design rotations, off-host copies and restore tests. | Confirm retention, export access and whether backups are actually restorable. |
| Restart automation | systemd or a Windows service wrapper can restart after failure. | Usually included, but verify the trigger and stop behavior. |
| Networking | You configure router forwarding, firewall rules and addressing. | The host normally supplies public networking, while you still configure the game. |
| Monitoring and support | You inspect logs and hardware metrics. | Support and monitoring vary; no universal uptime or response level should be assumed. |
| Recurring cost | Uses your hardware, electricity and connection. | Requires a recurring fee whose amount depends on the selected service; no single price applies. |
Whichever model you choose, maintain an independently downloadable copy of both directories. A hosting dashboard is not a substitute for a recovery plan.
Maintenance checklist and failure recovery
Every session or maintenance window
- Check that the expected session name is loaded.
- Watch logs for update, save or restart errors.
- Confirm free disk space before a large save or backup.
- Use a graceful stop before copying or changing files.
After a crash
- Keep players out while the service restarts and inspect the service log.
- Determine whether the process restarted cleanly or repeatedly failed during update validation.
- Do not overwrite the last known-good backup while troubleshooting.
- If the session will not load, stop the service and restore the newest verified save-and-blueprint pair to a separate test instance first.
- Only replace production files after the test instance loads and the cause is understood.
Before a major patch or configuration change
- Make a dated manual copy of both directories.
- Record current Network Quality, autosave settings and service configuration.
- Schedule enough downtime for validation and a restore if necessary.
- Tell players which build and session they should expect when the server returns.
Bottom line
Back up saves and blueprints as a dated pair, keep generations on separate storage, and verify restores. Let a service manager handle boot, crash recovery and validated SteamCMD updates, but always stop gracefully and create a pre-update copy. Choose a high-single-core, multi-core-capable host from real workload measurements rather than a promised player number. For Patch 1.1.0.0 internet hosting, forward TCP/UDP 7777 and TCP 8888, then re-check the official documentation after future patches.
