There is no evidence-based universal winner between SAP SuccessFactors and UKG Pro, the suite many buyers still know as UltiPro. SuccessFactors may suit organizations seeking broad HCM capabilities across HR, talent, employee experience, analytics, and workforce planning. UKG Pro may be a better fit when payroll, timekeeping, scheduling, and workforce management are central. The right choice depends on your required modules, countries, integrations, implementation capacity, support needs, and total cost.
What is the difference between UltiPro and UKG Pro?
UltiPro is the older name associated with the product now marketed as UKG Pro. UKG’s current product page uses the name UKG Pro, so this comparison uses UKG Pro for current product references. The name change does not establish a separate currently marketed suite.

Both platforms are broad human capital management (HCM) suites, but their public product descriptions emphasize different capabilities. Those descriptions are starting points, not proof that a particular module, workflow, country, or service is included in a proposed package. Ask each vendor to identify inclusions and add-ons in writing.
Which platform is a better fit for your requirements?
| Decision area | SAP SuccessFactors | UKG Pro | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suite scope | Nucleus Research’s March 2025 report describes core HR and payroll, talent management, sales performance management, employee experience, HR analytics, and workforce planning. It notes that third-party add-ons are available through SAP Store. | UKG lists HR, payroll, time and attendance, scheduling, talent management, HR service delivery, strategic workforce planning, compliance, reporting and analytics, and employee communication and collaboration. | Which modules are in the quoted package, which cost extra, and whether they cover your required workflows. |
| Time, attendance, and scheduling | The sources cited here do not establish a matched, feature-by-feature comparison for these workflows. | Time and attendance and scheduling are explicitly listed on UKG’s product page. | How the proposed system handles your shift patterns, timekeeping rules, approvals, and any union or labor-rule scenarios that apply. |
| Payroll by country | The cited 2025 report establishes broad suite scope but does not confirm current country-by-country payroll availability. | UKG’s product page claims global payroll coverage; the claim does not by itself specify the countries or service scope for your configuration. | Supported countries, local tax and regulatory services, languages, data location, and the division of responsibility between vendor and customer. |
| Integrations | The 2025 report discusses third-party add-ons and supported integrations for the talent intelligence hub. | UKG describes a connected platform, but the cited product page does not settle compatibility with a buyer’s specific systems. | Required connections to ERP and finance, identity, recruiting, benefits, time clocks, APIs, and data warehouse, plus who will implement and maintain them. |
| Implementation and usability | TechRadar’s 2026 review describes SuccessFactors as powerful, with a steep learning curve and potentially lengthy implementation. This is an independent review, not an estimate for your project. | The comparison page includes user reviews, but those do not amount to a controlled implementation assessment. | Migration scope, realistic workflow demonstrations, project staffing, partner experience, change management, timeline, and support arrangements. |
| Price and total cost | TechRadar reports that pricing varies with licensing volume, modules, and contract length. | Software Advice lists pricing as available upon request. | Comparable written quotes using the same employee count, countries, modules, contract term, implementation, support, integration, and renewal assumptions. |
The SuccessFactors scope summary comes from Nucleus Research’s Enterprise HCM Technology Value Matrix 2025, dated March 2025. The UKG feature list is vendor-authored and appears on its UKG Pro product page. Neither source guarantees that every listed capability is part of a particular quote.

When should you favor SAP SuccessFactors?
SuccessFactors is a reasonable candidate when your selection criteria call for a wide HCM portfolio spanning core HR, talent, employee experience, analytics, and workforce planning. The cited Nucleus report also describes sales performance management and the availability of third-party add-ons through SAP Store. That breadth may matter if you are evaluating several HR functions together rather than replacing payroll or timekeeping alone.
Before treating breadth as a fit, map each required process to a named module and confirm whether it is included, separately licensed, or dependent on an add-on. The report’s broad suite description does not establish current local payroll coverage or prove that a specific configuration meets your needs. Confirm country support and implementation responsibilities directly with SAP.

When should you favor UKG Pro?
UKG Pro deserves close consideration if payroll, time and attendance, scheduling, workforce management, compliance, reporting, or employee communication are among your main decision drivers. UKG explicitly lists these areas, along with HR, talent management, HR service delivery, and strategic workforce planning, on its product page.
Translate those labels into scenarios during evaluation: for example, a manager correcting a time entry, an employee requesting a shift change, or payroll handling a local rule. Ask the vendor to demonstrate the scenario in the proposed configuration and identify any extra modules, integrations, or services needed. A feature name on a product page is not enough to verify how it will work for your workforce.

Can public pricing tell you which one costs less?
No. The available public figures do not establish a matched total-cost comparison. Software Advice’s comparison page, which says it was updated March 6, 2026, lists UKG Pro pricing as available upon request and displays a SuccessFactors starting price. TechRadar’s 2026 review says SuccessFactors pricing varies by licensing volume, modules, and contract duration, and reports per-user amounts for selected configurations. Those descriptions are not equivalent offers; a displayed starting price or selected configuration does not determine what your organization will pay.
Request current written proposals from both vendors with identical assumptions. Compare recurring subscription charges separately from implementation, data migration, integrations, support, and any costs tied to renewals or contract changes. Have each vendor state which modules, countries, employee populations, and services the quote covers.

What should you validate before choosing?
- Define the workflows. List the HR, payroll, talent, timekeeping, scheduling, reporting, and employee-service processes your organization actually needs. Mark each as essential or optional.
- Confirm module packaging. For every essential process, ask the vendor to name the module, state whether it is included in the proposal, and identify any dependency on an add-on or third party.
- Check each country and workforce group. Request country-by-country confirmation of payroll services, local compliance coverage, language, data location, and the customer-versus-vendor responsibility split.
- Inventory integrations. Document current and planned connections, including ERP and finance, identity, recruiting, benefits, time clocks, APIs, and analytics systems. Assign an owner and cost estimate to each integration.
- Run scenario-based demonstrations. Use your own representative workflows and exceptions. Ask to see how employees, managers, HR, and payroll staff complete them in the proposed setup.
- Review migration and delivery plans. Ask for the data-migration approach, implementation ownership, staffing requirements, timeline assumptions, change-management plan, and support terms. TechRadar’s description of SuccessFactors implementation as potentially lengthy is a reason to request a project-specific plan, not a forecast for your project.
- Compare like-for-like quotes. Give both vendors the same employee count, countries, modules, term, implementation scope, support expectations, integration assumptions, and renewal questions. Evaluate the written total cost and contractual scope rather than a headline price.
How to make the final decision
Choose the platform that meets your must-have workflows and country requirements with the clearest implementation plan and a complete, comparable commercial proposal. If broad HCM coverage is the priority, assess SuccessFactors against that scope; if payroll and workforce management are the center of the decision, scrutinize UKG Pro’s proposed configuration against those scenarios. In either case, make the decision from demonstrated workflows and written commitments, not the product name or a generic feature list.
