For most buyers, these drives are close on headline speed and ruggedness, so choose by exact model, capacity, local price and warranty—not by a small difference in advertised speed. The cited SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD page lists up to 1,000 MB/s, IP65 protection, capacities from 500GB to 8TB and a five-year limited warranty. Samsung’s cited US listing for the 1TB T7 Shield claims up to 1,050 MB/s read and 1,000 MB/s write, IP65 protection and a limited three-year warranty. Those are manufacturer specifications, not proof of which drive transfers files faster in your setup.

Which should you buy?
Choose the SanDisk if its warranty or capacity options suit you better
On the cited SanDisk page, the five-year limited warranty is longer than the three-year limited warranty on Samsung’s cited US listing. SanDisk also lists a range of capacities through 8TB and includes both USB-C and USB-A connection options in the box. Check the warranty terms and exact SKU sold in your region before buying; the stated duration does not mean accidental damage is covered.

Choose the Samsung if the exact T7 Shield deal fits your needs
The cited T7 Shield listing is a 1TB US model, with a small edge in its advertised maximum read speed. That figure is not enough to establish a real-world performance advantage. If you are considering another capacity or a regional SKU, verify its specifications, package contents and warranty on the corresponding Samsung page.
For either drive, compare the same capacity and connection
Street prices and stock are not established here, so there is no supported price winner. Compare the exact capacities you would buy and calculate price per terabyte using the current local listings. Also check that your computer, phone or other host has a compatible port and supports the drive’s connection standard.

- Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)

Is the T7 Shield faster?
Not on the evidence of the advertised figures alone. SanDisk claims up to 1,000 MB/s for the cited Extreme Portable SSD. Samsung claims up to 1,050 MB/s read and 1,000 MB/s write for the cited T7 Shield 1TB. These manufacturer maximums are not a same-computer comparison or a guarantee of sustained transfer speed. Actual results can depend on the host device, port, workload and transfer conditions; no controlled head-to-head result is established here.
Are both drives waterproof and drop-proof?
Both manufacturers state an IP65 rating, but that should not be read as waterproof or damage-proof. Samsung’s datasheet says its IP65 rating is based on internal testing under controlled conditions. SanDisk claims up to three-meter drop protection, but the cited evidence does not establish that SanDisk and Samsung used equivalent drop-test procedures. Samsung’s regional product page states: “Damage caused by liquid, dust and drop are not covered under warranty.” Treat the protection claims as limits on exposure, not permission to submerge, mistreat or rely on either drive as indestructible.

Which has the longer warranty?
The cited SanDisk page states a five-year limited warranty; Samsung’s cited US 1TB listing states a limited three-year warranty. SanDisk therefore has the longer stated term in these particular listings. Warranty coverage and exclusions depend on the exact product and region, so read the local terms rather than assuming the duration covers every failure or accidental and environmental damage.
Check the generation, capacity and compatibility before ordering
SanDisk sells products with similar names, including a distinct Extreme Portable SSD V3 as well as the USB 3.2 Gen 2 model discussed above. Confirm the generation and SKU in the listing and ensure the specifications you compare belong to that exact drive.
