Samsung’s Googlebook may have appeared on Geekbench—but it isn’t confirmed

A Samsung XE940XSA benchmark listing reports Android 17 and Snapdragon X Elite hardware. It may be a Googlebook, but Samsung hasn’t confirmed the device or its software branding.

A Samsung laptop identified as XE940XSA has appeared in a Geekbench listing running Android 17, but that does not confirm it is a Googlebook. The listing reported a Snapdragon X Elite chip and 16GB of RAM; Samsung has not announced the device or identified its final operating system. An alternative explanation is that it belongs to Samsung’s separately reported Android Galaxy Book effort.

What the XE940XSA listing reports

SamMobile reported the Geekbench sighting on October 2, 2026. The entry identifies a Samsung device running Android 17 and lists the following hardware and scores. These are details from one benchmark listing, not results from independent testing.

Listing detail Reported value
Model identifier XE940XSA
Operating system Android 17
Processor Snapdragon X Elite, identified in the report by the codename “Hamoa”
CPU and graphics 12-core CPU; Adreno X1-85 GPU
Memory 16GB RAM
Geekbench scores 2,513 single-core and 15,214 multi-core

SamMobile’s report interprets XE940XSA and its hardware as a laptop. The entry makes the device a credible sighting, but a benchmark identifier does not establish a retail product name, configuration, or launch.

Why Android 17 doesn’t prove it is a Googlebook

Google describes Googlebook as a laptop category combining Android technology, ChromeOS capabilities, Gemini, and integration with Android phones. Its May 12 announcement says, “The result is Googlebook: a new category of laptops built with Gemini’s helpfulness at its core.” Googlebook is built on Android 17, so an early engineering build appearing in benchmark software under the Android 17 name is plausible. But that operating-system label alone cannot distinguish Googlebook software from another Android-based laptop system.

  • SLIM. LIGHTWEIGHT. READY TO GO: The all-new slim design is perfect for busy lives on the go.
  • SKILLFULLY DESIGNED. MILITARY TOUGH: Built with premium craftsmanship to withstand the occasional drop or ding.
  • ALL-DAY, ALL-IN-ONE CHARGING: Power through your school day – and beyond – with a long-lasting 12-hour battery.¹

  • YOUR PHONE AND CHROMEBOOK WORK BETTER TOGETHER: Easily transfer files between devices, and control your phone right from your Chromebook.

Google’s Googlebook announcement establishes the category; it does not identify XE940XSA. The benchmark report is therefore evidence of an Android 17 Samsung device, not confirmation of Googlebook branding.

Samsung may have a separate Android laptop project

Chrome Unboxed connects the hardware to earlier reports of Samsung Android Galaxy Books using One UI 9 and DeX. That possibility matters because an Android laptop made by Samsung would not automatically be a Googlebook: the software branding and Googlebook capabilities would need to be established. At present, neither explanation is confirmed.

Chrome Unboxed’s analysis says retail model numbers, FCC filings, or an official announcement would help determine whether XE940XSA is a Samsung-branded Android laptop or part of Google’s Googlebook category.

What Google has officially announced about Googlebook

Google’s September 21 first-look announcement named Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo as the initial hardware partners. Samsung was not among the partners named in that announcement. Google said the announced lineup would start at $899, with U.S. retail availability beginning October 4, 2026; those dates and prices describe Google’s announced lineup, not XE940XSA.

The announced machines are positioned as premium laptops. Google lists aluminum, magnesium alloy, and carbon-fiber construction; displays up to 2.8K; 16GB of baseline memory, with some models at 32GB; and claimed battery life of up to 14 hours of video playback or 16 hours of web browsing. Processor options include Intel Core Ultra Series 3 and Snapdragon X Elite. These are lineup-level specifications, not a specification sheet for every model.

Google’s first-look page provides the partner list and announced lineup details. Dell’s confirmed XPS Googlebook illustrates the difference between a named product and an unconfirmed benchmark device: Dell identifies it as a 13-inch Snapdragon X Elite laptop starting at $999, and claims up to 16 hours of Netflix streaming. Those are Dell’s product claims, not evidence about Samsung’s device. See Dell’s announcement.

What is still unknown about XE940XSA

Samsung has not announced XE940XSA as a retail product. Its final operating-system branding, retail model number, price, launch date, display, battery life, and sales availability have not been established. The Geekbench scores should not be used to predict real-world performance or compare the laptop with shipping products without independent testing and confirmed configurations.

Samsung does have an existing Chromebook, the Galaxy Chromebook 2 360, documented in Samsung’s specification sheet. It is a separate Chromebook and does not show that XE940XSA is a Googlebook.
