Samsung has no app called “Find My Friends.” The equivalent is Samsung Find, and its People tab lets you share your location with family and friends who also use the app. You can set a time limit on how long each person can see you. If your contacts use iPhones or non-Galaxy Androids, Google Maps location sharing is the better-documented cross-platform option.
What Samsung Find actually does
Samsung’s support page for Samsung Find describes three tabs, and only one is about people.

Compatibility
Samsung says the app supports Galaxy phones and tablets running One UI 2 (Android Q) or later. It comes preloaded on new devices running One UI 6.1. Supported devices upgraded to that release can download it from the Galaxy Store. Menus, availability and features can vary by region, device, software version and account type, so check your own device.

Samsung Find versus SmartThings Find
Samsung describes the two as separate apps with similar functions. SmartThings Find has offered device location and sharing through SmartThings membership. Samsung Find adds the People tab for more direct location sharing. SmartThings’ documentation describes sharing access to a registered device with members, who can then view it in their own app. That is not the same as a person sharing their live phone location, so don’t mix the two up.
Alternatives and how to choose
Google Maps Location Sharing
This suits groups with mixed phone brands. According to Google Maps Help, you choose who sees you and for how long, and you can stop sharing. Recipients see your name and photo, your device’s recent location and its battery status. More information may be available depending on the share. A link share for someone without a Google Account can last up to 24 hours. Availability can depend on country or region, Workspace administration and age requirements.

- FIT EVERYONE IN THE SHOT: Group selfies are easier on your Samsung phone with a wider front camera⁴ that captures more of the scene, so no one gets left out of the moment
Life360
Life360 is a broader family-oriented option that pairs location sharing with safety services. Its investor filing describes location sharing and safety services, including crash detection and emergency support. That filing does not establish which features come with which plan, or what they cost. Check Life360’s own plan pages for those details.
A quick comparison framework
- Platform: does everyone’s phone support it?
- Purpose: do you need a person’s live location, or to find a lost device?
- Consent and control: who agrees, for how long, and how fast can sharing be stopped?
- Children: what parental controls and account rules apply?
- Extras: do you need family safety functions beyond a map pin?
| Option | Best for | Duration control | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Find (People tab) | Families and friends who use Samsung Find | Yes, time limit per recipient | Requires the app on supported Galaxy devices |
| Google Maps | Mixed-brand groups | Yes; link shares up to 24 hours for people without a Google Account | Availability varies by region, Workspace and age |
| Life360 | Families wanting added safety features | Not stated in the sources reviewed | Plan and pricing details not established |
Children, consent and privacy
Account rules for children differ by platform. Google says a child under 13 (or the applicable age in their country) whose account is managed with Family Link can share real-time location in Maps only with their parents. Samsung says a parent or guardian must authenticate or approve attempts to share or stop sharing a child account’s location or associated device, per its Samsung Find page. Don’t assume an adult setup carries over to a child’s account.

On privacy, Samsung’s 2023 newsroom article says SmartThings Find shares a device’s location with others only with the user’s permission. It also says device IDs change every 15 minutes and are stored anonymously. That is Samsung’s own description of its device-finding service. It does not apply to Google Maps or Life360, and it isn’t an independent security audit. The same article reported more than 300 million nodes in the SmartThings Find network in 2023. That figure is company-reported, dated, and says nothing about how many people share locations.

Where SmartTag2 fits
Galaxy SmartTag2 is for belongings such as keys or bags, not people. Samsung says Samsung Find can show tags registered through SmartThings, and Samsung’s SmartThings Find page lists SmartTag2 as compatible with Galaxy phones and tablets using the latest SmartThings app. A tag’s position is not anyone’s live phone location. It should not be used to track someone without their knowledge or consent.
