There is no universal winner between Samsung and Apple watches: your phone determines which one works for you. Samsung says Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 do not support iPhone. If you use an iPhone, Apple Watch is the practical choice; if you use Android, check the Samsung models and the features available with your specific phone.
Which models are current?
Samsung announced Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 in July 2026. Apple’s current comparison page lists Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. These are the models to consider for an everyday-wear comparison and a more demanding training comparison, respectively. Phone compatibility comes first
Samsung’s compatibility table says Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 require Android 13 or later and do not support iOS. That makes them unsuitable for an iPhone owner who wants to pair a watch with their phone. Check the requirements for any specific Apple Watch model against Apple’s current product information before buying.

Everyday wellness
Samsung positions Galaxy Watch9, available in 40mm and 44mm sizes, for everyday wellness. Apple Watch Series 12 is the corresponding Apple model to consider for general daily use. Compare the actual features you care about, the case size and fit, and which watch works with your phone rather than assuming one brand is better at health tracking.
Structured training and demanding environments
Samsung positions its 47mm Galaxy Watch Ultra2 for structured training and demanding environments, while Apple lists Apple Watch Ultra 4 among its models. These descriptions indicate intended use, not an independent finding that one watch tracks workouts more precisely or performs better outdoors.

What Samsung says about health and fitness
Samsung describes its updated Samsung Health experience through five pillars: Activity, Mindfulness, Nutrition, Sleep, and Vitals. It says Heart Health Score combines activity, sleep, body composition, and stress trends into one score. These are Samsung-described features. The available manufacturer information does not establish medical accuracy or show that Samsung’s health measurements outperform Apple’s.

Samsung reports that Galaxy Watch9 has a 390mAh battery, with 20% more capacity than the previous generation, and that Galaxy Watch Ultra2 has an 800mAh battery, with 35% more capacity than its predecessor. Those are manufacturer-reported capacities and generational comparisons—not measured runtime against an Apple Watch.

Apple says its battery estimates come from defined usage tests with an iPhone; actual battery life varies with use, configuration, cellular network, and signal strength. Because the published Samsung capacity figures and Apple’s test estimates use different kinds of evidence, they do not establish which brand lasts longer in comparable everyday use. See Apple’s battery-test information and Samsung’s published specifications for their respective qualifications.

How to decide
- Start with your phone. If you use an iPhone, rule out Galaxy Watch9 and Ultra2; if you use Android, confirm your version meets Samsung’s requirement.
- Check feature access. If a Samsung health or AI feature matters to you, verify whether it requires a Galaxy phone before choosing a watch.
- Choose by use case and fit. Consider Watch9 or Series 12 for everyday wear, and Ultra2 or Ultra 4 if you want a watch positioned for demanding training. Try to compare case size and comfort as well as feature lists.
- Set realistic battery expectations. Compare estimates only when test conditions are alike, and consider your own usage and charging routine; the published figures here do not determine a winner.
- Check local availability and price. Retail prices and availability vary by market, so confirm the current offer where you plan to buy.
