The first announced models are the 2025–2027 Cadillac LYRIQ, 2026–2027 Cadillac OPTIQ and 2027 Cadillac VISTIQ. To use it, you need both an eligible vehicle with the feature enabled and a compatible Galaxy phone; owning a Galaxy from a supported family does not by itself make a car eligible.
Which GM vehicles are supported?
Samsung announced support on October 6, 2026, naming three Cadillac lines for the initial rollout. GM’s earlier announcement provides more detail on the staged schedule, including vehicles planned for December. Availability may arrive at different times, so check the vehicle’s mobile app for its “What’s New” notification and setup prompts.

| December 2026 expansion announced by GM | 2026–2027 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban; 2026–2027 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL; 2027 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade IQ/IQL and CELESTIQ |
These are announced rollout windows, not confirmation that every listed vehicle already has the feature activated. GM says the vehicle app will notify customers when Digital Key becomes available for their vehicle. Check the app rather than relying on the model list alone. GM’s rollout announcement and Samsung’s launch announcement describe the eligible models and timing.

These family-level lists do not establish that every phone variant supports every function or works with every eligible car. Samsung says compatibility varies by automaker, and the exact phone-and-vehicle combination matters. Confirm it in the GM vehicle app and follow the prompts for that car.
What the digital key can do
For the GM feature, Samsung describes UWB and Bluetooth Low Energy as enabling proximity behavior: the vehicle can unlock as the driver approaches and lock as they walk away. GM also describes the digital key as a phone-based version of the physical key. The specific behavior available depends on the vehicle and enrolled key.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

GM also lists trunk release and climate controls among digital-key capabilities, but its announcement does not establish that every function appears in every Samsung Wallet implementation or vehicle configuration. Treat the controls shown for your enrolled vehicle as the authoritative set.

Samsung Wallet lets an owner share a key, set permissions and revoke access remotely. GM says a key can be shared with up to seven additional devices. A shared user’s permissions may affect what they can do, including whether they can start the vehicle.

How to set up Samsung Wallet Digital Key
- Download and sign in to the mobile app for your GM vehicle.
- Wait for Digital Key availability to appear in the app, including in its “What’s New” section.
- With the vehicle connected to OnStar, sit inside it and keep the physical key fob nearby.
- Follow the vehicle-app instructions, then complete the Samsung Wallet and in-car prompts to register the key.
GM’s app and vehicle prompts control the GM-specific enrollment process. Samsung’s general guidance says setup begins in the carmaker’s app. After registration, Samsung says a Digital Key can be used without a network connection, although registration requires connectivity. Feature behavior and shared-key permissions can vary by manufacturer.
UWB proximity and NFC tap are different workflows
GM’s announcement describes UWB and Bluetooth Low Energy proximity access for its feature. Samsung’s general support guidance also explains NFC keys: where a vehicle uses NFC, the driver taps the phone to the door and places it on the wireless charging pad to authenticate and start. That NFC description is general Samsung guidance, not confirmation that every supported GM vehicle uses NFC. For GM, follow the enrolled vehicle’s instructions; Samsung notes that starting still requires in-car authentication for UWB keys.

What to do if a phone is lost or access must be removed
Samsung says an owner can suspend or delete a Digital Key remotely through Samsung Find on a computer. GM says an account owner can remove access through the vehicle or digital wallet and advises calling OnStar for immediate deactivation if a device is lost or stolen. Use the current Samsung and GM/OnStar instructions for the specific account and vehicle.

Samsung says its Digital Keys are stored in the phone’s embedded Secure Element and protected by Samsung Knox, and that Wallet Digital Keys meet EAL6+ certification standards. Samsung describes that certification as evaluating protections against side-channel attacks and other advanced attack vectors, with additional testing and verification. This is Samsung’s security characterization, not a guarantee that loss or unauthorized access is impossible.
