Samsung video calls may be free to place, but the bill depends on how you make the call. A carrier video call can be subject to your carrier’s terms; an app call such as Google Meet generally uses an internet connection, which may consume mobile data. Samsung does not set one universal price for video calling across Galaxy phones, carriers and countries. Samsung says carrier video calling may not be available on all devices or carriers.
First, identify which kind of video call you’re making
On a Galaxy phone, the Phone app may offer a carrier video-call option, Google Meet, or both. The available buttons and interface depend on the device, carrier and software version. Check the label or icon you tap: the billing question is about the calling method and your plan, not simply whether the phone is a Samsung.

Carrier video call
This option connects through a supported carrier feature. Availability depends on both the device and carrier, and the person you call may also need to support carrier video calls. Samsung advises choosing Meet if the recipient does not support carrier video calling. Whether a carrier video call costs extra, uses plan minutes, or is included depends on the carrier’s current terms. Samsung’s instructions for video calls on Galaxy devices do not establish a universal fee.
Google Meet or another calling app
App-based calls run over an internet connection rather than being the same thing as a carrier video call. Samsung says Meet is integrated for easier access on devices with One UI 4 and later; the app may also appear in the dialer on unlocked Samsung phones and tablets. The exact interface varies by model, carrier and software version. Samsung’s support guidance says devices running One UI 5 and later can use Meet video chats with up to 100 participants. That is a stated feature limit, not a promise that every call is free of connectivity costs. See Samsung’s Meet setup and feature guidance.

Other apps, including WhatsApp, Facebook, Skype and Snapchat, also offer video calling. Their calling features and any premium options depend on the app; check its terms as well as your internet plan. Samsung lists examples of video-call apps for Galaxy devices.
Will a video call use mobile data?
If an app call runs over mobile data, it can count against your plan’s data allowance or lead to charges under your plan. If you use Wi-Fi, the call ordinarily uses that connection instead of your mobile-data allowance, but Wi-Fi itself may have a price, usage cap or other limits. The word “free” for an app usually means there is no separate per-call fee for its basic calling feature; it does not guarantee free internet access.

Samsung’s regional support distinguishes internet-based calling over Wi-Fi or mobile data from carrier calling. Because billing terms differ by country and provider, do not assume one region’s rules apply to your plan. Samsung Singapore explains the distinction between VoIP and Wi-Fi Calling.
Wi-Fi Calling is not the same as an app video call
Wi-Fi Calling is a carrier feature for regular phone calls and messages over Wi-Fi. It is separate from placing a video call in Meet or another internet-calling app. Samsung Ireland says Wi-Fi Calling requires a Wi-Fi connection, an active SIM and support from the network provider; the provider must also enable the feature. How Wi-Fi Calling is charged is also carrier- and region-dependent. Samsung Singapore’s guidance, for example, distinguishes VoIP data use from Wi-Fi Calling’s use of local carrier talk-time or minutes. Treat that as regional guidance, not a universal tariff rule; confirm the treatment with your own provider.

- Identify the option. In the Phone app, check whether you selected carrier video calling or Meet. If you started in another app, check that app’s calling feature and terms.
- Check the connection. Confirm whether the phone is using Wi-Fi or mobile data. On mobile data, the call may use your allowance or incur charges under your plan.
- Ask your carrier about carrier calls. Give the provider your country, plan and the exact calling method. Ask whether it is supported, whether it uses minutes or data, and whether any additional fee applies.
- Check app terms where relevant. Some apps may charge for premium features even when basic calling is available without a separate per-call fee.
Your carrier’s current terms are the reliable way to establish the cost for a specific carrier video call or Wi-Fi Calling use. Samsung’s general device guidance does not specify a universal price.
