Its listed smart-TV features are broad, but those specifications make it an everyday-use set rather than a 4K/120Hz gaming TV. Samsung’s specifications explain what it offers; the available independent review listing does not provide enough detail to establish how it performs in testing.
What is the Samsung UA55U8500FWXXY?
Samsung Australia identifies this exact model as the 55-inch 2025 Crystal UHD U8500F 4K Smart TV. Its resolution is 3840 × 2160 and its native refresh rate is 50Hz. Samsung also lists Crystal Processor 4K, HDR, HDR10+, Mega Contrast, UHD Dimming, contrast enhancement, 4K upscaling, Colour Booster and Filmmaker Mode. These are manufacturer-described features, not independent measurements of brightness, contrast, colour performance or HDR impact. Samsung Australia’s product page has the complete published specification list.

Is the Samsung UA55U8500FWXXY any good?
It looks suited on paper to viewers who want a 55-inch 4K television with common streaming and smart-home features, and who do not need 4K/120Hz gaming. A firm picture-quality verdict is not possible from the published information here: Samsung’s feature list is not a performance test, and the available CHOICE listing does not expose detailed findings or the scale behind its result.
CHOICE’s exact-model page displays a test result of 5.3 and marks the model discontinued. The excerpt available on that page does not identify the score scale or explain the test outcome, so the number should not be read as a score out of 10, a percentage or a recommendation. The page’s $999 listing is not evidence of today’s price or stock.

Does the Samsung U8500F support 120Hz? Is it good for PS5 or Xbox?
No: Samsung lists a 50Hz native refresh rate and a maximum HDMI input rate of 4K 60Hz for each of the TV’s three HDMI ports. It is not a 4K/120Hz television, which matters if you want high-frame-rate output from a compatible console or gaming PC.
The gaming feature list includes Auto Game Mode (ALLM), VRR and HGiG. These features do not change the stated 4K 60Hz input ceiling or native refresh rate. Samsung’s Motion Xcelerator is described as using motion information to predict subsequent frames; that processing should not be confused with a native high-refresh panel. Samsung also notes that picture results vary with source quality and resolution. For a purchase decision, match the TV’s input limit against the frame rates and resolution you expect to use.

How is the sound, and do you need a soundbar?
The listed audio system is 20W RMS, two-channel, with OTS Lite and Q-Symphony support. Those specifications do not establish how loud, clear or spacious the TV sounds in a room; no independent listening assessment is available here. Whether to add a soundbar depends on your listening preferences and setup. Q-Symphony support is relevant if you are considering a compatible Samsung soundbar, but it does not by itself establish that an upgrade is necessary.
