If Samsung TV Plus will not open, has lost channels, buffers, or reports that there was a problem trying to play a channel, work through the fixes in this order: verify the TV’s internet connection, cold-boot the TV, update its software, reinstall Samsung TV Plus when the menu permits it, reset Smart Hub, and use a full reset only as a last resort. This sequence starts with quick, reversible checks and ends with actions that erase accounts and settings.
What Samsung TV Plus needs before troubleshooting
Samsung TV Plus is an internet-delivered streaming service. Samsung’s Help Center states: “Yes, an internet connection is required to stream Samsung TV Plus on your Samsung TV.” A television can still open its home screen and settings while the network path used by TV Plus is unavailable or unstable.

That distinction determines your first test. Open another streaming app on the same television. If several apps fail or buffer, investigate the home network, router, Wi-Fi signal, or internet service. If other apps play normally while TV Plus fails, concentrate on the TV’s software, Smart Hub data, app installation, or a service-side problem rather than immediately changing your broadband plan.
Menu names differ by model year, operating system version, country, and projector or television model. The paths below match Samsung’s documented locations on many recent sets; use the nearest equivalent label if your screen is arranged differently.

Identify the symptom before changing settings
| What you see | Most useful first check | What the result tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung TV Plus icon or app is absent | Check the TV’s internet status, then update software and search Apps | The app may be hidden by a software, Smart Hub, model, or region issue |
| Some channels disappeared | Confirm the TV region and internet connection, then refresh the installation | Catalogs are not universal and can change by geography, device, and service configuration |
| Video keeps buffering | Play another streaming app and, if practical, test wired Ethernet | Several failing apps indicate a network problem; TV Plus alone points toward app or service troubleshooting |
| “There was a problem trying to play the channel” | Cold-boot the TV, update software, and retry a different channel | A single channel may be temporarily unavailable; repeated failures across channels need the full recovery sequence |
| The app freezes, crashes, or returns to the TV Plus screen | Cold-boot first, then update and reinstall | These steps clear transient memory and replace damaged or outdated app components |
Follow the recovery ladder in order
1. Check the connection and compare another app
- Open the TV’s network settings and confirm that it reports an internet connection, not merely a connection to your wireless router.
- Start another streaming app and play a programme for several minutes. A successful home-screen launch is not enough; the comparison must reach actual playback.
- If multiple apps fail, restart the router and reconnect the TV to the network. Turn off the router, wait for it to finish shutting down, power it back on, and wait until its internet indicators settle before testing the television.
- If only TV Plus struggles, test the TV close to the router or, when the distance and your model allow it, connect a Cat6 Ethernet cable temporarily. A wired test is a diagnostic comparison, not a guarantee that Samsung TV Plus will recover.
- Samsung regional guidance notes that an alternate DNS can help when an app fails despite an apparent network connection. Treat DNS as an advanced network test: record the original setting, change only the DNS value, and revert it if other services become less reliable.
Do not interpret one successful channel as proof that the connection is healthy. A network can be fast enough for menus yet lose packets or fluctuate during a live stream.
2. Cold-boot the television
A normal tap on the remote may leave the TV in standby, preserving the software state that caused the failure. Samsung’s documented cold boot uses the remote:
- With the TV on, hold the remote’s Power button for about five seconds.
- Keep holding until the television turns off and turns on again.
- Wait for the home screen, network connection, and apps to load completely, then open Samsung TV Plus.
If you do not have a working remote, unplug the television from the wall for 30 seconds, reconnect it, and allow extra time for network and app services to restart. Avoid repeatedly pulling the plug while the TV is updating or saving settings.
3. Update the TV software
- Open Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now on models that use this path.
- Let the TV check for firmware and install it if offered.
- Do not switch off the television or disconnect power during the update.
- After the restart, wait for the TV to reconnect to the internet before testing TV Plus again.
Firmware labels and locations vary by model year. If your support menu uses a different wording, look for Software Update under Support. Updating can restore missing app components and compatibility fixes that a reinstall alone cannot provide.

4. Reinstall Samsung TV Plus when the menu allows it
- Open Apps and select the settings or gear icon.
- Highlight Samsung TV Plus and choose Delete if that option is available.
- If Delete is unavailable because the app is recommended or built in, choose Reinstall instead.
- Return to the Apps search, find Samsung TV Plus, and install it again if the store presents an install option.
- Launch the service and check whether the app opens and whether the channel guide repopulates.
Reinstalling is more targeted than resetting Smart Hub, but a built-in app may not expose a delete command. Do not treat a missing Delete button as an error; use Reinstall or proceed to the Smart Hub step.
5. Reset Smart Hub
Smart Hub stores app data, account sessions, and parts of the TV’s app configuration. Reset it when TV Plus remains missing, crashes after an update, or will not load after reinstalling.
- On many older Samsung televisions, open Support > Self Diagnosis > Reset Smart Hub.
- On many 2019-and-later sets, open Support > Device Care > Self Diagnosis > Reset Smart Hub.
- Enter the requested PIN. If you never changed it, consult the TV’s on-screen prompt or manual rather than guessing repeatedly.
- Confirm the reset, then complete the Smart Hub setup when the TV restarts.
- Download or enable apps again, sign back into services, and test Samsung TV Plus.
Collect your streaming-service passwords before starting. A Smart Hub reset signs you out of apps and can require app downloads and setup again; it is not a harmless cache clear.

Samsung documents a flash-reset procedure involving the physical TV button and the remote’s Power button. Because the exact button sequence is model dependent, follow the instructions for your specific model rather than improvising. A flash reset returns the television to its initial setup state and can erase network details, accounts, picture preferences, and other settings. Record Wi-Fi credentials and important picture or accessibility settings first.

Use this escalation only after network checks, cold boot, software update, reinstall, and Smart Hub reset have failed. If TV Plus is unavailable because of a regional catalog or a temporary service problem, a factory-level reset will not create channels that are not offered to your device.
7. Contact Samsung Support for a persistent failure
Escalate to Samsung Customer Support when TV Plus still fails after the documented software steps, when the television cannot maintain any network connection, or when other apps and TV functions indicate a hardware problem. Have the model number, software version, country or region, exact error wording, and the steps already completed. That information helps support distinguish an app fault from a network, account, regional, or hardware issue.
Fix a missing Samsung TV Plus app or icon
Start by checking whether the TV has internet access and whether another app can stream. Then update the firmware and search the Apps screen for Samsung TV Plus. If it appears, use the Delete/Reinstall process described above. If the app remains absent, reset Smart Hub.

Availability is model and region dependent. A current television in one country may expose a different app catalog from a similar model sold elsewhere. Therefore, a missing icon is not proof that the service has been discontinued globally. Confirm the television’s selected region and complete the software and Smart Hub recovery sequence before concluding that the model is unsupported.

Restore channels that appear to be missing
Samsung TV Plus does not have one worldwide channel list. Catalogs can vary by geography, device, and the service configuration in effect at the time you check. Official support material does not establish a single current worldwide channel count or a complete regional lineup, so no universal number can be used to decide whether your TV is missing channels.
Check the likely causes
- Verify that the television is connected to the internet and that the connection is stable during guide loading.
- Confirm the TV’s country or region setting. Do not change it casually: regional changes can affect app availability, terms, language, and other services.
- Cold-boot the TV so the guide and app state are rebuilt.
- Install any available firmware update.
- Reinstall TV Plus when possible, or reset Smart Hub if the guide remains incomplete.
- Check several categories and channels. A single unavailable station does not establish that the entire catalog is broken.
If the channel list changes after these steps, the refresh corrected local app data. If the same channels are absent but the service otherwise works, the difference may reflect the current lineup for your region or device rather than a fault you can repair locally.

When every streaming app buffers
Treat this as a home-network problem first. Restart the router, reconnect the TV, and test again after the connection has stabilized. Move the TV closer to the wireless access point or temporarily use Ethernet to compare wireless and wired performance. If a wired connection is steady while Wi-Fi is not, investigate wireless interference, distance, or router configuration. The Cat6 cable test identifies a local connection difference; it cannot correct a Samsung-side outage or an unavailable channel.

When only Samsung TV Plus buffers
Complete the cold boot and firmware update, then reinstall TV Plus or reset Smart Hub if necessary. Test more than one channel because a single stream can fail independently of the rest of the service. If other apps remain stable and every TV Plus channel fails repeatedly, record the time, channel names, model, and error text for Samsung Support.

When playback reports a problem trying to play the channel
Retry after a cold boot and select a different channel. If the alternate channel plays, the original stream may be temporarily unavailable. If no channel plays, continue through software update, reinstall, and Smart Hub reset. Do not claim a confirmed service outage solely from this message: Samsung’s Help Center does not provide a live outage status in the guidance considered here.
Handle freezes, crashes, and returns to the TV Plus screen
A freeze or crash can leave stale app data in memory. Cold-boot the TV first, because that is fast and reversible. If the behavior returns, update the TV software. Reinstall TV Plus when the Apps menu permits it; otherwise reset Smart Hub. Observe whether the failure occurs when opening the app, loading the guide, changing channels, or starting playback. A repeatable trigger is useful to support and can reveal whether the issue affects the app interface or the network stream.
Compare the fixes by risk and diagnostic value
| Action | Typical time | Risk and data impact | Diagnostic value | Model dependence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Check another app and network status | A few minutes | No settings changed | Separates a broad network failure from a TV Plus-specific fault | Low; labels vary slightly |
| Router restart or wired Ethernet comparison | Several minutes | May briefly disconnect other devices; no TV accounts erased | Tests home-network stability and wireless versus wired behavior | Ethernet availability depends on the TV and location |
| Remote cold boot | About one minute plus startup | Reversible; no account loss | Clears a transient TV software state | Remote required unless you unplug the set |
| Software update | Several minutes or longer | Do not interrupt power; settings normally remain | Addresses firmware compatibility and app defects | Menu path and update size vary by model |
| Reinstall TV Plus | Several minutes | App data may be removed; other apps unaffected | Replaces damaged app files | Delete may be unavailable for built-in apps |
| Reset Smart Hub | Several minutes plus setup | Signs out of apps and may require downloads and setup | Rebuilds the TV’s app environment | Path differs between older and newer sets |
| Flash or full reset | Longest; includes complete setup | Returns the TV to initial setup and can erase settings | Escalates beyond app-level recovery | Exact button procedure is model specific |
What not to assume
- A working home screen does not prove that TV Plus has internet access.
- A missing channel does not prove the app is damaged; regional and device catalogs differ.
- A Cat6 cable can diagnose a wireless-path problem but cannot guarantee service recovery.
- A Smart Hub or flash reset cannot add a channel that is not offered in your region.
- One playback error is not confirmation of a Samsung-wide outage.
- There is no reliable current figure in the cited official guidance for worldwide channel count, outage frequency, buffering rate, or average repair time.
Prepare useful details before contacting support
Write down the television model, country or region, firmware version, whether other apps stream, whether the TV is using Wi-Fi or Ethernet, the channels that fail, and the exact on-screen message. Note whether a cold boot, update, reinstall, or Smart Hub reset changed the behavior. If you can reproduce the failure, record the sequence without exposing account passwords or personal information. These details let support target the network, software, regional catalog, or hardware path instead of repeating every basic step.
