Samsung TV Plus is free to watch, but it is not ad-free. It is Samsung’s internet-delivered FAST (free ad-supported television) and AVOD (advertising-based video on demand) service. You do not pay a separate subscription, yet you need an internet connection and may see advertising. The channels, features and supported hardware depend on your country, device model, operating system and network conditions.
What is Samsung TV Plus?
Samsung TV Plus is a streaming television service built into many Samsung products. It supplies linear, scheduled channels that work like traditional television, with additional on-demand programming in some markets. Samsung describes it as “completely free, ad-supported,” so there is no TV Plus subscription fee or credit-card requirement in the cited US support information.

The service is funded by advertising. Commercial breaks are therefore part of normal playback, rather than an error or a sign that a trial has expired. Samsung’s Smart Hub information also says advertising can appear on device surfaces and, where available, inside apps such as TV Plus. Ad formats and availability vary by region, model and model year. Samsung’s published material does not establish a universal ad-free TV Plus tier.

Availability is both regional and device-specific. Samsung’s US support FAQ lists 2016-and-newer Samsung Smart TVs and projectors in select areas. Its Help Center identifies Samsung Smart TVs released after 2016, supported Galaxy devices, Smart Monitors and Family Hub refrigerators as supported categories. An eligible product in one country may have a different catalog or may not offer the service in another.
#1 Best Overall

- OBJECT TRACKING SOUND LITE: Feel like you're part of the scene with audio that follows the action on screen. Featuring a virtual top channel, every sound is precisely placed in space, placing you in the heart of the scene.
- SAMSUNG KNOX SECURITY: Your TV experiences are secured. Samsung Knox Security defends against harmful apps and phishing sites while keeping sensitive data, such as PINs and passwords, secure. It also safeguards your IoT devices connected to your TV.
- ONE UI TIZEN: Stream your favorite movies and shows and access your favorite apps and games on an intuitive smart TV platform, powered by Samsung Tizen OS.
- ENDLESS CONTENT: Access 2,700+ free channels including 400+ Samsung TV Plus premium channels with just your WiFiconnection. Enjoy national and local news, sports, movies, kids’ shows and more -live and on demand. With content frequently added, there’s always something new to discover.
Samsung’s terms also say that features and content can vary with country, device, operating system, network operator, bandwidth and connection speed. That means a channel list found online, or a list shown on a different television, is not a promise about your installation.
Supported-device quick reference
| Device category | What Samsung’s information establishes | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Smart TVs | 2016 and newer models in supported areas; the Help Center describes the category as TVs released after 2016. | Exact model, country and software version determine eligibility. |
| Samsung projectors | Supported on eligible models and in eligible markets. | Support is not universal across every projector. |
| Galaxy phones and tablets | Supported Galaxy devices can use the service. If the app is not preinstalled, Samsung directs users to Galaxy Store or Google Play. | Galaxy model, country and operating-system support can differ. |
| Samsung Smart Monitors | Listed by Samsung as a supported category. | Model and market restrictions apply. |
| Family Hub refrigerators | Listed as a supported category. | Availability depends on the refrigerator model and market. |
For a particular product, check whether TV Plus appears in the device’s app launcher or TV guide after connecting it to the internet. If it is absent, verify the model’s regional support and software before assuming the service is unavailable everywhere.
What channels are on Samsung TV Plus?
There is no single worldwide channel list. Open the TV Plus Guide on your device or the Samsung TV Plus page for your region to see the current lineup. Samsung explicitly warns that channels may change or disappear without prior notice, so a channel you watched last month may be moved, renamed or removed.
Samsung’s 2026 newsroom and advertising pages claim more than 3,500 ad-supported linear channels across 30 countries and more than 630 million devices worldwide. Those are Samsung’s own, time-sensitive global figures, not an independent measurement. They describe the scale of the service and do not guarantee that any particular country, television or phone receives a specific channel.
Why two people can see different lineups
- Country and rights: Programming rights differ by territory, so a channel may be offered in one country but not another.
- Device and software: Samsung can expose different services on a TV, phone, monitor or refrigerator, and older software may not show the latest catalog.
- Network conditions: Bandwidth and connection speed can affect service features and playback quality.
- Ongoing changes: Channel additions, removals and schedule changes can happen without advance notice.
Is Samsung TV Plus really free?
Yes, it is free to the viewer in the sense that Samsung does not charge a separate TV Plus subscription in the cited US FAQ. The trade-off is advertising. You may encounter commercial breaks during channels and advertising in Samsung interface surfaces where those placements are available.

“Free” does not mean costless in every situation. Your internet provider may charge for broadband usage, and a mobile carrier may charge for cellular data. A paid Samsung account or credit card is not identified as a requirement by the cited US support material, but device setup and other Samsung services can have their own account rules.
Does TV Plus use mobile data?
Yes. Streaming video on a Galaxy phone or tablet uses the device’s internet connection. Samsung’s Help Center warns: “If you are streaming on your mobile device, note that data usage rates may apply.” The amount consumed depends on video quality, how long you watch, the device and your mobile or broadband plan. Samsung’s terms also identify bandwidth and connection speed as factors affecting service quality.

Ways to avoid an unexpected mobile bill
- Connect the phone or tablet to trusted Wi‑Fi before starting a long viewing session.
- Check your carrier’s data allowance and the carrier’s definition of streaming usage.
- Use your device’s cellular-data controls to restrict TV Plus when you are away from Wi‑Fi, if your operating system provides an app-level switch.
- Monitor data usage after a short test session; the result is more useful for your specific device and quality setting than a generic estimate.
- If playback repeatedly drops quality or buffers, test a stronger Wi‑Fi or broadband connection. Bandwidth affects both data consumption and viewing quality.
Why does Samsung TV Plus show ads?
Advertising is the service’s business model. Samsung classifies TV Plus as a FAST/AVOD service, which delivers programming without a subscription by selling ad inventory. Therefore, ads are expected on free channels and are not evidence that your account is being charged.
Ad availability and format can vary by country, model and model year. Samsung’s Smart Hub information indicates that ads may appear on device surfaces and, where available, inside apps such as TV Plus. The cited materials do not document a setting that removes every TV Plus commercial, nor do they establish a universal paid ad-free option.
Does Samsung TV Plus track what I watch?
Samsung’s privacy disclosures describe collection and use of device information and identifiers, including an IP address, advertising IDs and Samsung visual-display identifiers, plus cookies or similar technologies, settings and analytics data. Samsung says this information can be used to provide services, customize content and deliver personalized or generalized advertising where permitted.

A separate Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) feature is optional. Samsung’s ACR FAQ says that, when enabled, ACR can collect viewing history such as programs watched and the amount of time spent watching, together with a Personalized Service ID and IP address. Samsung says ACR runs only when enabled and that it does not record or watch the content displayed on the television.

Samsung says you can turn ACR off in the TV’s settings and that you have the right to opt out of ACR and collection of viewing history at any time. Menu names and locations can differ by model, country and software version, so use the privacy, terms or viewing-information section of your television’s settings and follow the on-screen wording for ACR or personalized services.
Disabling interest-based or viewing-information features can reduce personalization. It does not necessarily remove all advertising: Samsung’s privacy disclosures allow generalized advertising to remain. Other device identifiers, cookies and analytics may also be governed by separate privacy controls, so review the settings and privacy notice presented on your specific product.
How to start watching Samsung TV Plus
- Confirm eligibility: Check that your Samsung TV, projector, Galaxy device, Smart Monitor or Family Hub refrigerator is an eligible model for your country.
- Connect to the internet: TV Plus requires an internet connection. Use Wi‑Fi or Ethernet on a television where available, or Wi‑Fi or cellular data on a mobile device.
- Open the service: On a supported TV, look for TV Plus in the Smart Hub or channel guide. On a Galaxy phone or tablet, install it from Galaxy Store or Google Play if it is not already present.
- Open the guide: Review the lineup shown for your location rather than relying on a list from another country or device.
- Review privacy choices: If you do not want optional ACR viewing-history collection, use the television’s privacy settings to disable it.
- Watch with the right connection: On mobile, confirm that Wi‑Fi is active or that your carrier plan covers the expected streaming use.
Common problems and fixes
TV Plus does not appear
Check the product model, country setting and software version first. The service is limited to supported models and areas, and Samsung’s terms allow features to vary by operating system and network operator. If the app is missing on a Galaxy device, search Galaxy Store or Google Play as Samsung recommends. A missing app on an unsupported model cannot be fixed by changing the channel list.
A channel disappeared
Refresh the guide and check the regional TV Plus listing. Samsung says channels can change or disappear without prior notice, so removal may be a catalog change rather than a fault with your internet connection.

Playback buffers or looks poor
Test the connection on the same device, move closer to the Wi‑Fi access point or use a wired connection where practical. Bandwidth and connection speed affect service quality. On cellular service, a weak signal can also cause interruptions while consuming data.
Ads seem different from another viewer’s ads
Advertising can vary by region, model, model year and available personalization settings. Different ad content does not by itself indicate a billing problem or a malfunction.
How TV Plus compares with other free streaming services
If you are deciding between FAST services, compare the factors that materially affect your experience rather than channel-count headlines:
| Comparison point | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Country and devices | Is the service available where you live and on the television, phone or monitor you actually use? |
| Catalog | Does it offer the live channels, schedules and on-demand programs you want? |
| Advertising | How often do ads appear, and which controls exist for ad personalization? |
| Mobile data | Can you restrict cellular playback, and does your carrier plan cover streaming? |
| Privacy | Can viewing history, ACR or recommendation data be disabled? |
| Account and payment | Does the service require a separate account, subscription or payment method? |
The practical answer
Samsung TV Plus is a no-subscription, ad-supported streaming service that requires internet access. Its strongest convenience is integration with supported Samsung hardware, while its main limitations are regional channel variation, changing lineups, advertising and potential mobile-data charges. Verify your exact model and country in the TV Plus guide, use Wi‑Fi for extended mobile viewing, and review optional ACR settings if viewing-history collection concerns you.
