A Samsung TV backlight problem is covered only when Samsung determines that it is a manufacturing defect in materials or workmanship and that specific TV is still within its warranty period. Samsung’s standard US terms do not name “backlight failure” as an automatically covered component, so the answer depends on the diagnosis, the model, the sale date, and where the set was bought. The terms and Samsung’s US warranty guidance were checked in October 2026.
What the standard US warranty promises
Samsung’s US Standard Limited Warranty states: “This limited warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship encountered in normal, reasonable, and except to the extent otherwise expressly provided for in this statement, noncommercial use of this Product.” The statement is issued by Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and is published on Samsung Support US at https://www.samsung.com/us/support/legal/LGL10000300/.

- Remedy. Samsung chooses the remedy described in the applicable terms, which can include repair or replacement. An owner should not assume a new TV, a specific replacement component, or reimbursement for a repair arranged independently.
- Period. The legal text does not fix one duration for every Samsung TV. The parts and labor periods are tied to the model, and Samsung’s warranty checker displays them once the product is identified.
A dated example shows why the period cannot be generalized. The 2018 Frame Series user manual, published by Samsung US at https://image-us.samsung.com/SamsungUS/tv-ci-resources/2018-user-manuals/2018_UserManual_FrameSeries.pdf, lists one year of parts and one year of labor for that manual’s LCD/LED TV group. That figure describes the 2018 cohort only. It is not a current warranty length for newer Samsung TVs.

What the warranty excludes
The standard terms list exclusions that matter in backlight disputes. They cover damage caused by:
- Accidents, misuse, neglect, fire, water, or lightning
- Unauthorized parts, supplies, installations, or repairs
- Incorrect voltage or failure to follow the instructions
- Reception or signal-delivery problems
The terms also exclude brightness-related normal aging and commercial or non-normal consumer use. The unauthorized-repair exclusion is the one most likely to affect a backlight claim: an owner who opens the set or installs replacement parts before Samsung has assessed the fault may create a dispute over whether the original defect is still covered.

Is the symptom a defect?
A backlight symptom is what the owner sees. It is not proof of the cause, and it is not proof of warranty eligibility. Samsung’s own guidance treats the symptom as the starting point for problem determination. Describe what you observe in plain terms, and let Samsung’s process establish the cause.

A picture that is uniformly dim may point to backlight output, but it can also reflect picture settings, the input source, or other faults. Report the setting you were using and the input source when you contact Samsung.

Uneven brightness or patches
Dark bands, clouding, or areas of uneven illumination are the symptoms most often associated with backlight wear or failure. Photograph the pattern on a plain, full-screen image so the description is specific when you describe it to Samsung.
Intermittent image
A picture that flickers, cuts out, or returns after a power cycle may have several causes. Note how often it happens and whether it follows a particular source, so Samsung can assess the fault rather than the general complaint.

How to check your Samsung TV warranty
- Find the complete model code and serial number on the TV or in the purchase documentation.
- Locate the dated receipt or proof of delivery. Samsung may ask for dated proof of purchase.
- Open Samsung’s warranty checker at https://www.samsung.com/us/support/warranty/, enter the product details, and sign in or register if prompted. Record the parts and labor periods shown for your exact model.
- Check your retailer paperwork. Samsung’s checker notes that some retailers, including Costco and Sam’s Club, may provide extended terms, and those terms sit outside Samsung’s own record.
- Describe the symptom to Samsung and follow its problem-determination instructions, starting with the manual and Samsung’s online help. Warranty service is generally performed by a Samsung-authorized service center.
- Do not open the TV or install parts until Samsung has assessed the claim. Samsung states that it will not reimburse service performed by others.
If manufacturer coverage has ended
Once the warranty period has passed, the choice is no longer about Samsung’s obligation. It is about cost. The table compares the paths an owner can weigh, and each row depends on documents specific to the set.

Purchases made outside the United States
The US terms apply to products bought in the United States. For a product purchased outside the US, Samsung says warranty service may be limited to the country of first sale, and owners should contact Samsung in their local market. Samsung’s legal terms direct owners outside the US to the rules that apply locally, so the local terms govern in that case.
