The simplest widely available route is Google Meet; a video-call button in the Phone app may also place a carrier video call, but that option depends on both phones and their carrier support.
How to video call another Samsung phone
Choose the route that fits what you see on your Galaxy phone. Google Meet is an app-based option; the Phone app’s video-call control, when available, may use your carrier’s video-calling service instead.

Start a call in Google Meet
- Open Google Meet and sign in if prompted.
- Allow the permissions the app requests, such as access to the camera and microphone.
- Tap New, then choose a contact or dial the person’s number.
- Tap Call. If the other person does not have Meet, you may need to send an invitation.
Samsung says Meet is integrated for easier access on Galaxy devices running One UI 4 and later. Meet may also appear in the call dialer on unlocked Samsung phones and tablets, though menus and availability vary by model, carrier, and software version. Samsung’s Meet instructions describe the available routes.

Try the Phone app’s carrier video call
Open the Phone app, select the contact, and tap the video-call icon if it appears. This can place a carrier video call rather than a Meet call. Samsung notes that carrier support is required, and the recipient’s phone may not support the feature; a call may fail or switch to another type. If Meet is offered, choose it as an alternative. Samsung’s carrier video-call guidance explains the distinction.
Which calling method should you choose?
| Route | Where you start | What it depends on |
|---|---|---|
| Google Meet | Meet, or Contacts/Phone on supported setups | Access to Meet and the relevant app permissions; the other person may need Meet or an invitation. |
| Carrier video call | Phone app’s video-call control, if available | Support from the carrier, phone model, software, and recipient’s device. |
| Another shared video-calling app | The app installed on both phones | Both people need access to the same app. |
Meet is a useful fallback when the carrier option is missing or unsupported. Samsung lists WhatsApp, Facebook, Skype, and Snapchat as examples of other apps that can be used when available on both phones.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Why the video-call button may be missing
- The carrier feature is not supported. The Phone app’s video-call option is carrier-dependent and is not available on every Galaxy phone or network.
- Your device or software presents a different menu. Samsung says options vary by model, carrier, and software version.
- You can still call through Meet. Open Meet directly rather than relying on a button in Phone or Contacts.
Samsung’s guidance also notes that not all devices support video calling and that a recipient may answer as a voice call. The camera and microphone must be available to the calling app for video and audio. Samsung’s new-device guide covers these general device caveats.

What to check if a call will not connect
- Open Meet directly and try placing the call there instead of using the Phone app’s video icon.
- Check that Meet has the requested camera and microphone permissions.
- If using carrier video calling, confirm that the recipient can receive that kind of call; try Meet or another app both people use if it cannot connect.
- If the menu differs, check the exact phone model, carrier, country, and software version. Those details determine whether a carrier calling option is available.
