Samsung rates it at up to 430 ISO lumens and lists the US model at $1,199.99 (price seen on Samsung’s US listing on 7 October 2026). Its main strength is placement: it can be set up on a wall, floor or ceiling without a separate mount. Its main limits are the ones small projectors usually have: modest brightness in a lit room, a separate battery accessory before it runs away from a power outlet, and smart services that depend on your country.
This is a specifications-based review. It draws on Samsung’s launch announcements, regional product pages and US listing. We have not run the projector through controlled brightness, contrast, latency or noise tests, so every performance figure below is Samsung’s own claim unless it says otherwise.

#1 Best Overall
- CERTIFIED REFURBISHED: This manufacturer-refurbished unit shows limited (if any) wear and has been fully tested to deliver the same reliable, like-new performance. It arrives with all essential components and is backed by a 90-day warranty for your peace of mind.
Availability has rolled out in stages:
- 1 January 2026: Samsung announced the global product. Its CES announcement described a phased global rollout planned for the first half of 2026. That was the plan at announcement time, not a guarantee that the projector is on sale in every market today.
- 17 July 2026: Samsung announced US availability.
If you are outside the US or UK, check whether a local Samsung store or authorized retailer lists the projector before you plan around it.
Picture: brightness, resolution and HDR
Samsung specifies Full HD resolution and claims brightness of up to 430 ISO lumens. The company says that is nearly twice the brightness of the previous generation. Those are manufacturer claims. Brightness ratings are self-reported, and an ISO lumen figure from one brand is only directly comparable with figures measured the same way.
A 430 ISO lumen rating suggests the projector is best used in a dim or dark room, with blinds closed and lights reduced. It does not establish daylight viewing, and Samsung’s materials do not describe performance in bright ambient light. Samsung also lists PurColor and HDR10+ support. Those labels describe supported features, not measured contrast or colour accuracy.

AI OptiScreen is Samsung’s name for a group of automatic picture adjustments. Samsung describes five of them.
3D Auto Keystone
Samsung says this corrects distortion when the projector is aimed at a non-flat or uneven surface. It is the feature that matters most if you plan to project onto a corner, a textured wall or an angled ceiling.
Real-time Focus
Real-time Focus adjusts focus while the unit moves or rotates. Because the body turns 180 degrees, this is the feature that has to keep up with your repositioning.
Screen Fit
Screen Fit matches the picture to a compatible projector screen. It is optional. You do not need a dedicated screen to use the projector, but Samsung’s description implies that a compatible screen gives the feature something specific to fit.
Wall Calibration
Wall Calibration analyses the colour or pattern of the surface being projected onto and compensates for it. Samsung does not say how accurately it works on very dark, glossy or heavily patterned walls.
Obstacle Avoidance
Obstacle Avoidance, described in Samsung’s US availability announcement, detects objects in the projection path and moves the image so it is not blocked. Samsung’s wording does not say how it handles people or pets walking through the beam.
Samsung says results depend on your surroundings. Its UK product page also states that some of these functions need to be activated and are off by default, so check the on-screen settings after setup.
Placement and screen size
Samsung’s UK product material gives these throw distances. Use them as planning estimates, then measure your own room.

| Projected image size | Throw distance (Samsung UK) |
|---|---|
| 30 inches | 0.8 m |
| 55 inches | 1.5 m |
| 65 inches | 1.7 m |
| 75 inches | 2.0 m |
| 100 inches | 2.7 m |
Samsung advertises 100 inches as the maximum image size. Screen size depends on throw distance, so a shallow room may limit how big the picture can be. Measure from the lens position to the wall before you buy, because the body’s rotation makes it easy to put the projector in an awkward spot.
Portability and power
Samsung lists a set weight of 1 kg on its UK product page and includes a carrying pouch. The 180-degree rotation is designed for projecting onto walls, floors or ceilings without an additional mount.
Running it from a mains outlet
The projector is designed for normal use with power from an outlet. That is the scenario Samsung’s specifications describe most clearly.
Running it on battery
Battery operation needs a separate accessory. Samsung UK specifies a power source that supports USB-PD with an output of at least 50 W / 20 V. Samsung also sells its own Freestyle Battery Base separately. Samsung says that operating with that battery reduces brightness to about 80%, and it does not publish battery runtime in the material reviewed here. Plan for the extra cost and check that your battery meets the 50 W / 20 V requirement.

Outdoor use
The small size makes outdoor setups easier to imagine, but Samsung’s materials do not establish weather resistance or how the projector performs in daylight. Treat outdoor use as untested.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Audio
Samsung describes built-in 360-degree audio with dual passive woofers in its US announcement. Its Q-Symphony feature can synchronise sound with compatible Samsung soundbars and Wi-Fi speakers. If you already own compatible Samsung audio, that is a sensible upgrade path. Confirm model compatibility first, because Samsung’s material does not give a universal list. Samsung has not published independent sound-quality measurements in the material we reviewed.
Smart features and regional limits
The US announcement lists Smart Hub, streaming apps, Samsung TV Plus, Gaming Hub cloud gaming, Vision AI Companion (which uses Bixby and Gemini), Tap View and Smart View for compatible Galaxy devices, and Apple AirPlay 2.
- Samsung Account: Network-based smart services require one, according to Samsung’s January announcement.
- Samsung TV Plus: Channels vary by location and can change over time.
- Compatible devices: Tap View and Smart View work with compatible Galaxy devices only.
- Streaming and gaming: App and cloud-gaming availability depends on your region, so check your country’s app catalogue before buying for a specific service.
How Samsung positions it
Samsung’s US launch quotes come from Shane Higby, Head of Home Entertainment at Samsung Electronics America, who described the aim as a “point and play” experience that can “instantly transform any space.” Hun Lee, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said the projector “makes it easier to enjoy a consistent, high-quality experience wherever you are.” These are corporate positioning statements, not evidence of performance.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →What independent testing has not established
The material available for this review does not include published independent measurements of any of the following. Treat them as open questions until a credible tester publishes results:
- Brightness in ambient light, as opposed to Samsung’s ISO lumen rating
- Contrast, colour accuracy and HDR handling
- Input lag for gaming
- Fan noise during use
- Battery runtime on the Freestyle Battery Base or a third-party pack
- How reliably AI OptiScreen corrects keystone and focus on uneven or textured surfaces
- Sound quality of the built-in speakers
What to compare before you buy
Projectors are easy to compare on price alone and hard to compare on everything else. These eight questions give you a fair comparison with any alternative:
- Measured brightness in the room where you will watch, not just a headline ISO lumen rating.
- Resolution, contrast and HDR handling, checked against independent reviews.
- How well the setup automation handles the surfaces you actually have.
- Size, weight, rotation range and what accessories are included.
- Power strategy: mains only, or battery, and the total cost of a compatible battery.
- Smart platform, app and cloud-gaming availability in your country.
- Built-in audio versus the cost of an external soundbar or speaker.
- Total price, including any battery or screen accessories.
The Bottom Line
The Freestyle+ makes the most sense for people who want a light projector they can place almost anywhere, keep near a mains outlet, and use in a dim room. Buyers who need daylight-friendly brightness, true battery-only portability or guaranteed smart-service access in their country should hold off until independent tests appear and confirm local availability. At $1,199.99 on Samsung’s US listing as of 7 October 2026, it is a significant spend, so weigh it against the total cost of any battery, screen or soundbar you plan to add.
