What the reported Samsung T9 deal includes
The offer is for the black 1TB Samsung Portable SSD T9, model MU-PG1T0B/EU. TechRadar’s detailed deal listing on 5 October 2026 gave Amazon’s price as £191.07, against a £238.99 reference price, a £47.92 saving. Its summary rounded those figures to £192, £240 and £48. The same report listed Argos at £205 and Currys at £209 at that time; those are publisher-reported comparisons, not verified live prices.

TechRadar described £191.07 as the lowest price it had seen in 2026, but also noted a price of £86 in November 2025. So the offer was a reported 2026 low, not a record low. The £238.99 comparison figure is not a universal current list price: Samsung’s UK launch announcement in October 2023 listed the 1TB model’s launch price as £117.49.

Not necessarily. Samsung rates the 1TB T9 for sequential reads of up to 2,000 MB/s and writes of up to 1,950 MB/s. These are separate maximum figures, not a promise of the same speed in everyday use. The drive uses NVMe storage and a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface rated at 20 Gbps. Samsung says achieving its maximum sequential speeds requires a compatible host and cable, with UASP enabled; performance also varies with the host configuration.

In practical terms, a computer’s USB port matters as much as the SSD. The T9 is backward-compatible with USB 3.2, 3.1, 3.0 and 2.0, but a slower connection will not deliver Gen 2×2’s maximum transfer rate. Check the specifications for your computer’s USB ports rather than assuming that any USB-C port supports 20 Gbps. Samsung includes both USB-C-to-C and USB-C-to-A cables.
Who is the T9 a good fit for?
The T9 makes the most sense if you regularly move or work with large files—for example, video projects, photo libraries or other creative work—and your computer can take advantage of its faster interface. Its compact size, 88 × 60 × 14 mm, and 122 g weight also make it easy to carry between locations.

If you mainly need space for documents or occasional backups, a slower, less expensive portable SSD may be better value. The T9’s maximum transfer rates are most useful when both your workload and host hardware can make use of them.
Protection, encryption and compatibility
Samsung lists AES 256-bit hardware encryption and support for Samsung Magician software, which provides drive-health information, firmware updates and management tools. The company also rates the T9 for drop resistance from up to 3 metres, based on its internal free-fall testing under controlled conditions. That is not a waterproofing rating: Samsung does not document the drive as waterproof, and physical damage is excluded from its five-year limited warranty.

Samsung lists compatibility with Windows, macOS, Android, PCs, laptops, phones, tablets, game consoles, smart TVs and cameras. Some operating systems may require the drive to be reformatted, so check device support and any file-system requirements before relying on it across different equipment. Samsung offers the family in 1TB, 2TB and 4TB capacities; it defines 1TB as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, so the usable or displayed capacity can appear lower under other measurement conventions.
