Samsung Sound Will Shut Down March 31, 2027: Move Audio Controls to SmartThings

Samsung Sound is reportedly set to stop working after March 31, 2027, with its audio controls moving to SmartThings. The date and migration message come from an in-app notice reported by Android Central and Android Authority—not a public Samsung shutdown announcement. If you use the app, start registering your compatible soundbar or speaker in SmartThings and check that the controls you rely on are available there.

When is Samsung Sound shutting down?

The Samsung Sound app is reported to remain available until March 31, 2027. Android Central reported on October 2, 2026 that users were seeing an in-app alert with that deadline; Android Authority reported the same date a day earlier. The message reportedly tells users: “Simply register your sound device in the SmartThings app to continue using your existing settings.” Android Central and Android Authority attribute the information to the app notice.

Samsung’s U.S. support page explains how to download Samsung Sound and directs users to SmartThings when the app is unavailable or a device is incompatible. It does not, in the cited material, announce the March 31, 2027 shutdown date. Samsung’s U.S. support guide

How to move a Samsung soundbar or speaker to SmartThings

  1. Open the SmartThings app and select the location where you want to add the audio device.
  2. Choose Add device.
  3. Select the Samsung devices card, then choose Soundbar or Speaker.
  4. Follow the prompts after SmartThings finds the device.

These steps follow Samsung’s U.S. support instructions for setting up soundbars and speakers through SmartThings. The reported in-app notice says registration is the way to continue using existing settings, but Samsung’s cited material does not promise that every model’s controls or saved settings will transfer identically. Check the device in SmartThings after setup and confirm that the functions you use are present. Samsung: Get the Samsung Sound app

What Samsung Sound does—and what moves to SmartThings

Samsung describes Samsung Sound as an app for enhanced control of compatible Q-Series soundbars, Wi-Fi speakers and Music Frame. Samsung says users can manage sound and group speakers across its audio lineup. Depending on the supported products, Sound-related functions include grouping and audio modes such as Group Play and Stereo. The shutdown reporting identifies SmartThings as the destination for audio-device registration and continued use of existing settings. It does not establish a model-by-model feature-parity list, so do not assume every Samsung Sound option will appear for every speaker or soundbar in SmartThings. Support depends on the product model and market.

Path What to expect Best next step
Keep using Samsung Sound The reported notice says the app remains available until March 31, 2027. Use it while available, but plan to register your device in SmartThings before the deadline.
Register in SmartThings Samsung provides a setup route for supported soundbars and speakers, and the reported notice names SmartThings as the destination. Add the device and check that the audio controls and settings you need are available. Feature parity for every model is not established.

The shutdown concerns the app, not a requirement to replace your working speaker or soundbar. Samsung’s setup guidance offers a SmartThings path for compatible hardware; a new purchase is not necessary migration advice.

Compatibility depends on model and region

Samsung Sound is for compatible Samsung audio equipment, not every Samsung soundbar or speaker by default. Samsung Australia’s support page, updated August 20, 2026, lists Android 12 or later and iOS 13.0 or later for Australian-variant devices. Those are regional requirements, not universal requirements for all countries or models. Samsung Australia support
