Which Samsung app is changing?
The app is Samsung Sound, not Samsung’s broader SmartThings platform or its other apps. Samsung’s US support page lists Q-Series soundbars, Wi-Fi Speakers and Music Frame among the product categories associated with Samsung Sound. The change concerns this standalone audio app.

What is happening, and when?
Android Authority reports that a notice in Samsung Sound’s latest update says: “To provide a more convenient and unified experience, the Samsung Sound app is being integrated into SmartThings.” The report says the app will remain available until March 31, 2027. That date comes from the reported in-app notice; Samsung’s support instructions cited here do not independently confirm it. Android Authority’s report

Do you need to move your soundbar or speaker to SmartThings?
If you want to manage a compatible device through Samsung’s replacement route, add it to SmartThings and check the options available for your exact model. Samsung’s US instructions give this path:
- Open SmartThings and select the location where you want the device.
- Tap Add device.
- Select the Samsung devices card.
- Choose Soundbar or Speaker, then follow the prompts to scan for and register the device.
Samsung presents these steps for devices where Samsung Sound is unavailable or unsuitable. See the Samsung US setup instructions and check the support page for your region and model.

Which controls are available in SmartThings?
Samsung Australia says SmartThings can power compatible soundbars on or off, adjust volume and change sound mode. The company cautions that functionality and settings vary by model; soundbars need network connectivity and registration to a single Samsung Account. Samsung Australia’s SmartThings soundbar guidance
Do not assume every Samsung Sound control or saved setting will transfer unchanged. Compatibility and available features depend on the device model, so confirm the supported functions for yours in the current regional instructions.

What may be different from Samsung Sound?
Android Authority reports that Samsung Sound initially lacked some controls available in SmartThings, including IP control, Auto Power Off and a Tap Sound shortcut. It also says the app did not offer a straightforward way to turn a soundbar off after switching it on. These are observations reported by Android Authority, not guarantees about the current feature set of either app. Check the controls available for your model in SmartThings before relying on a particular setting.

No replacement purchase is established as necessary. The reported change is a software transition, and Samsung provides SmartThings setup instructions for compatible sound devices. Whether an existing device can be registered and which controls it supports depend on its model and regional compatibility guidance.
