Samsung S95H vs LG G6 OLED: Which Is Better for Gaming?

Short answer: neither TV is a proven all-round gaming winner from the available evidence. Both target premium PC and console players with 4K gaming modes up to 165Hz and variable refresh rate (VRR). Choose the LG G6 if Dolby Vision Gaming, four HDMI 2.1 inputs and a published low-latency result matter most. Choose the Samsung S95H if you want Samsung’s Game Bar telemetry, in-game 21:9 or 32:9 options and HDR10+ Gaming. The final decision should also account for the exact screen size, regional model, current price and warranty.

What the two TVs have in common

The S95H and G6 are flagship OLED televisions aimed at high-end gaming setups rather than entry-level consoles. Samsung lists the S95H for VRR gaming at up to 4K and 165Hz, while TechRadar reports the same 4K/165Hz ceiling for the LG G6. That headline number describes the display mode the television can accept; a game, graphics card and connection still have to deliver the required frame rate.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Both product families cover the major PC synchronization ecosystems in the cited specifications. Samsung identifies G-SYNC compatibility for the S95H, and TechRadar lists both FreeSync and G-SYNC for the G6. VRR can reduce tearing and judder when rendered frame rates fluctuate, but the exact behavior depends on the GPU, driver, game and regional TV firmware.

These are not interchangeable claims about every input or every size. Samsung’s specification is tied to its S95H product material, while the LG features come from TechRadar’s review. Check the model number sold in your country before assuming that an advertised port, refresh mode or gaming feature is present on a particular size.

Samsung S95H: why a PC gamer might prefer it

Game Bar telemetry and ultrawide views

Samsung’s Game Bar is the S95H’s clearest differentiator for PC use. Samsung says it can show information such as frames per second and input lag while you play. Seeing those values on the display can help diagnose a bad cable, an unexpectedly low frame rate or a synchronization problem without opening a separate monitoring overlay.

The same interface can apply 21:9 or 32:9 aspect ratios. Those modes are useful when a PC game supports an ultrawide field of view and you would rather use a wide central image than stretch a conventional 16:9 picture. They do not create extra game content by themselves: the game and graphics card must render the selected resolution, and unsupported titles may show side bars or an unsuitable crop.

G-SYNC and refresh headroom

Samsung’s S95H material lists G-SYNC compatibility and VRR gaming up to 4K/165Hz. That combination is aimed at a modern GeForce PC that can occasionally reach very high frame rates, while VRR handles the periods when performance falls below the refresh ceiling. Samsung describes G-SYNC as synchronizing the display refresh rate with the GeForce GPU’s frame rate to reduce tearing and stuttering; this is Samsung’s description of the technology, not an independent comparison test.

HDR10+ Gaming

The S95H product page names HDR10+ Gaming as its HDR gaming format. HDR10+ uses dynamic metadata when a game and playback chain support it, but the practical benefit is game-dependent. Confirm that your console or PC output, the title itself and the television’s selected input mode all support the HDR path you want. A game mastered for another HDR format will not automatically become HDR10+ Gaming content.

LG G6: why a gamer might prefer it

Dolby Vision Gaming, HGiG and ALLM

TechRadar lists Dolby Vision Gaming, HGiG and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) among the G6’s gaming features. Dolby Vision Gaming makes the G6 the clearer choice for someone who specifically requires Dolby’s gaming format. HGiG is relevant to HDR tone-mapping behavior in compatible games, while ALLM lets a console or source request a low-latency picture mode automatically. Each feature still needs support from the game and source device; a television cannot add Dolby Vision metadata or HGiG calibration to a title that does not provide it.

Four HDMI 2.1 inputs

TechRadar’s G6 review identifies four HDMI 2.1 ports. That gives a setup with several high-bandwidth sources—such as a pair of current consoles, a gaming PC and an audio receiver—more flexibility than a set with only one or two suitable inputs. The cited material does not establish the S95H’s HDMI 2.1 count, so do not assume the ports are equivalent. Check the label and specification sheet for the exact S95H size before buying.

Published latency measurement

TechRadar measured the G6 at 8.9 milliseconds using a Leo Bodnar 4K meter. That is a useful indication that the television can be responsive in its tested gaming mode, but it is a single review measurement under stated test conditions. The available material contains no comparable S95H number, so it would be inaccurate to call the G6 the measured latency winner in a direct contest.

HDR choice: Dolby Vision Gaming or HDR10+ Gaming?

The HDR decision is format-based rather than a simple “brighter is better” ranking. Samsung’s named option is HDR10+ Gaming; LG’s named option is Dolby Vision Gaming. Both formats rely on compatible games and source hardware, and neither label guarantees that every HDR title will use dynamic metadata.

  • Choose the G6 for Dolby Vision Gaming: this is the straightforward choice if your library or console setup specifically targets Dolby Vision Gaming and you want the television feature documented by the review.
  • Choose the S95H for HDR10+ Gaming: this makes sense when your preferred game ecosystem and playback devices are built around HDR10+ and you value Samsung’s implementation.
  • Do not choose from the logo alone: check the games you actually play, the output format supported by your GPU or console and whether your receiver or capture hardware passes that signal.

HDR performance also depends on the picture mode, tone mapping and room lighting. The cited sources identify the supported formats but do not provide a controlled HDR gaming comparison between the two televisions.

Color and image measurements: what the side-by-side test does—and does not—show

TechRadar’s 2026 side-by-side report measured the S95H/S99H and G6 in its own test conditions. The G6 readings followed a software update. These are review measurements for tested units, not guarantees for every panel or a direct measure of gaming frame-rate performance.

SDR color accuracy 2.2 2.3
UHDA-P3 coverage 99.97% 99.3%
BT.2020 gamut coverage 89.3% 83%

TechRadar characterized the sets as broadly similar in these areas. The small SDR accuracy difference and the gamut figures should not be converted into a claim that one television has lower input lag, better VRR behavior or a superior gaming experience. Panel variation, calibration, picture mode and subsequent firmware can all affect what an owner sees.

Input lag and motion: how to interpret the evidence

Latency is one of the most important gaming specifications, yet the available figures are not a matched pair. The G6’s 8.9ms result comes from a Leo Bodnar 4K meter and a TechRadar review. There is no comparable S95H value in the cited material. Different meters, resolutions, refresh rates and picture modes can produce different results, so comparing the G6’s number with an absent Samsung number would create false precision.

For a purchase decision, treat the G6 result as evidence that it was responsive in the tested configuration, not as proof that every G6 size or firmware behaves identically. For the S95H, ask the retailer or manufacturer for a measurement that specifies the same refresh rate, resolution, HDR state and picture mode if measured latency is decisive for you. Whichever TV you buy, use its dedicated gaming mode, enable VRR on the source and avoid unnecessary image-processing modes that can add delay.

Which TV fits your gaming setup?

Competitive PC player focused on telemetry

The S95H is the more natural fit if you regularly monitor FPS and latency, switch between standard and ultrawide layouts, or want 21:9 and 32:9 options visible through the Game Bar. Those are documented interface advantages rather than a claim that Samsung’s panel is faster.

PC player with a mixed GPU fleet

Both sets list support for major VRR ecosystems in the cited sources. The G6 has FreeSync and G-SYNC listed by TechRadar; Samsung lists G-SYNC compatibility for the S95H. Match the TV to your graphics card, confirm the correct HDMI input and test VRR with your own driver and game combination.

Console household with several HDMI 2.1 devices

The G6’s four documented HDMI 2.1 ports simplify a setup with multiple high-bandwidth sources. The S95H may still suit you, but its port count is not stated in the available evidence, so inspect the exact regional specification rather than relying on a general S95H listing.

Dolby Vision Gaming priority

Pick the G6 when Dolby Vision Gaming is a requirement rather than a preference. Confirm that your console, game and receiver chain can output it; the TV feature alone does not guarantee Dolby Vision in every title.

HDR10+ Gaming priority

Pick the S95H when HDR10+ Gaming is the format you intend to use and the rest of your setup supports it. Samsung’s product material specifically names that format, while the G6 review specifically names Dolby Vision Gaming.

Buyer choosing on price

There is no established same-size, same-market price comparison in the cited information. Compare the exact diagonal, model suffix, included stand or mount, warranty and current local price at the time of purchase. A lower ticket price on a different size is not a like-for-like value win.

How to set up either TV for 4K high-refresh gaming

  1. Match the hardware: use a graphics card or console that can output 4K at the target refresh rate. A 4K/165Hz television cannot make a game render at 165 frames per second.
  2. Use the correct connection: connect the gaming source to an HDMI input rated for the required bandwidth. If your existing cable is certified for the mode you need, replacement is unnecessary; otherwise use a suitable Ultra High Speed HDMI cable.
  3. Enable the source features: turn on 4K output, the highest supported refresh rate, VRR and HDR in the console or PC display settings. On a PC, select the television’s native resolution and the desired refresh rate in the operating system or GPU control panel.
  4. Enable the TV’s gaming mode: select the gaming picture mode or Game Optimizer/Game Bar controls offered by your model. Menu names and locations can vary by region and firmware.
  5. Choose the HDR path: use Dolby Vision Gaming on the G6 or HDR10+ Gaming on the S95H only when the game and source support it. Otherwise use the HDR format your title and device officially provide.
  6. Verify operation in a real game: check for a stable signal, confirm that VRR engages, and use Samsung’s Game Bar readouts where available. If the image blanks or falls back to a lower refresh rate, reduce the output mode and test the cable, input and driver individually.

Common problems and practical fixes

The TV will not run at 4K/165Hz

  • Confirm that the GPU, cable and selected HDMI input all support the requested bandwidth.
  • Check that the PC is actually set to 165Hz; many systems default to 60Hz after a driver or display change.
  • Temporarily disable HDR or lower the refresh rate to identify whether bandwidth, rather than the panel, is the limiting factor.

VRR is unavailable or flickers

  • Enable VRR in both the source and television menus.
  • Install the correct GPU driver and select the matching VRR system: G-SYNC for a compatible GeForce setup or FreeSync where supported.
  • Test another HDMI input and cable, then retest at a lower refresh rate. If the problem follows one source, investigate the source settings instead of replacing the TV.

HDR looks washed out or too dark

  • Verify that the game is running in HDR and that the operating system is not applying an unintended desktop HDR mode.
  • Use the game’s own HDR calibration screen and the TV’s gaming picture mode.
  • Do not force Dolby Vision Gaming or HDR10+ Gaming when the title and source do not support that format.

Ultrawide mode shows bars or an odd crop

Samsung’s 21:9 and 32:9 options change the display aspect ratio, but the game must render a compatible ultrawide image. If a title only supports 16:9, return to that ratio or use the game’s own field-of-view and resolution controls rather than stretching the picture.

Value, sizes and regional checks before buying

Current value cannot be established without matched prices for the same screen size and market. Before ordering, record the exact model suffix, diagonal, included accessories, warranty length and return policy. Regional availability can change the port layout, firmware features or naming even when two listings use the same family name.

Also check whether your receiver, soundbar, capture card and consoles need every HDMI 2.1 input. The G6’s four HDMI 2.1 ports are documented by TechRadar; the S95H’s port count is not stated in the available material. If a single input must serve an advanced PC and a console, plan the cable and switching arrangement before installation.

Verdict: which is better for gaming?

Choose the LG G6 when Dolby Vision Gaming, four HDMI 2.1 inputs, HGiG/ALLM support and the documented 8.9ms TechRadar measurement align with your setup. The latency figure is encouraging but not a controlled advantage over Samsung because no matching S95H test is available.

Choose the Samsung S95H when Samsung’s Game Bar matters more than a particular HDR format—especially its FPS and input-lag readouts or 21:9/32:9 PC options—and when HDR10+ Gaming is the format your games and devices support.

For everyone else, treat the two as closely matched on the headline 4K/165Hz VRR capability and decide using the exact local price, screen size, warranty, port layout and HDR ecosystem. The available evidence supports a feature-based recommendation, not a universal winner or a complete head-to-head gaming ranking.
